34: Chapter 34: Treating extremely dangerous pollutants as scraps, the guards are numb to it.

Lin Yuan carried three special military lead boxes and walked slowly out of the giant bronze gate.

Four True God guards stood outside the gate, their gazes falling in unison upon those lead boxes.

The next second, the tactical detectors inside their helmet visors lit up with red light, and the radiation alarm echoed throughout the underground fortress.

The leading guard officer stared at Lin Yuan, the corner of his eye twitching.

He certainly knew what was inside those three boxes.

A Diamond-grade Plague Heart, the wreckage of the Endless Slaughter altar, and that lump of Star Meteorite Liquid Gold that could not be forged by any divine fire.

Any one of these three items, if thrown into the Slums, would be enough to trigger a small-scale natural disaster.

"You... you took these three?" The officer's voice was somewhat dry.

"Didn't you say I could just pick some scrap?" Lin Yuan weighed the lead boxes in his hands, his expression calm.

"I saw these were placed quite far aside, and since no one seemed to want them, I just grabbed them. I didn't exceed the limit, did I?"

The officer was speechless for a moment.

They were placed aside because no one dared to touch them! Do you think you're at the vegetable market picking up rotten cabbage?!

"Sir, should we stop him?" A guard nearby lowered his voice, his tone tight.

"If those three items are taken back and the containment box ruptures, not only will this kid die, but it will also cause large-scale contamination."

"Stop him, my ass." The officer waved his hand. "He has S-grade special authorization. As long as he doesn't detonate them on the spot, he can take whatever he wants. Let him pass!"

The giant bronze gate slammed shut behind Lin Yuan.

Meanwhile, at the Jiangcheng Military Region Command Center.

Commander Xiao Lie stood before the holographic sand table, watching the surveillance footage on the screen, his brows furrowed tightly.

"Commander-in-Chief." The adjutant stood to the side, looking at the inventory data, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. "He took the Plague Heart and the Star Meteorite Liquid Gold."

"Those are extremely dangerous contamination sources capable of destroying the laws of a normal Divine Domain. Should we send a specialist to retrieve them?"

Commander Xiao Lie rubbed his temples.

He had granted Lin Yuan the authorization to see what the kid's judgment was like and whether he could pick out a few high-tier protective items.

Who knew this kid would go straight for the most toxic ones? He clearly has a death wish.

"No need." Commander Xiao Lie lowered his hand and said in a deep voice: "The foundation of the Wasteland Divine Domain is already in shambles. Since he dares to take them, it means he is confident he can digest them."

"I'd like to see just how sharp the blade of this knife can be honed."

...

Half an hour later, in the Slums of Jiangcheng's Lower City.

A stealth transport plane landed.

Lin Yuan followed the tractor beam back to his bedroom.

Just after landing, before he even had time to pour a glass of water.

"Thump! Thump! Thump!"

Outside the corridor, a rhythmic sound of metallic footsteps suddenly rang out.

Lin Yuan's eyes sharpened.

"Bang!"

A muffled sound came from the living room, and Old Lin's bedroom door was quickly pushed open.

Dragging his mechanical prosthetic limb, Old Lin limped yet rushed into Lin Yuan's bedroom with extreme speed.

He held an old-fashioned electromagnetic rifle in his hand that was overloaded with charge.

Old Lin pulled Lin Yuan behind him, his gaunt chest heaving up and down, like an old wolf protecting its cub, staring vigilantly toward the door.

"Yuanzi, don't make a sound." Old Lin's voice was hoarse, his muscles tensed to the limit.

"Clang!"

The already dilapidated security door was forced open.

Five fully armed military elites strode into the room.

Leading them was an officer wearing the rank of Major.

The fluctuation of his life force was as deep as an abyss and as vast as the sea; he was clearly a God-level powerhouse.

Upon seeing the military uniform and the Major's rank, Old Lin's face turned pale.

His mind went blank.

A military elite raid on the Slums could only mean one thing—a purge.

Did Yuanzi use some prohibited methods during the assessment and get caught? Or did he offend someone from the military on the black market?

Old Lin did not hesitate at all, lowering the muzzle of his rifle slightly, giving up any stance of resistance.

He called out with a hoarse, trembling voice: "Officer! If there's an issue, come for me! It has nothing to do with my son; I'll go with you!"

The Major had just stepped into the living room when he heard the shout and paused.

He lifted his head, his gaze falling upon Old Lin.

His gaze first swept over the nearly broken electromagnetic rifle in Old Lin's hand, then settled on Old Lin's open collar.

There, hanging, was half a scratched military dog tag, along with a dim and chipped "Spark Medal of Merit."

It was an honor that only veterans who had survived the meat grinder of the Seventh Abyss Defense Line and performed distinguished service were qualified to wear.

The Major froze for a moment.

He did not draw his weapon, nor did he issue any reprimand.

He brought his feet together, his alloy combat boots making a crisp "snap" sound.

The next moment, this Demigod-level officer stood straight, raised his right arm, and saluted Old Lin with a standard, extremely solemn military salute.

The four military elites behind him moved in perfect unison, with a "whoosh," saluting simultaneously.

Old Lin was dumbfounded.

His hands holding the electromagnetic rifle froze in mid-air, the muzzle trembling slightly, nearly misfiring.

The Major lowered his arm and turned to look at Lin Yuan, who was standing behind Old Lin.

His originally cold tone became exceptionally gentle, even carrying a hint of respect.

"Specialist Lin Yuan." The Major bowed his head slightly. "By the order of Commander-in-Chief Xiao Lie, starting from today, you are officially enlisted into the military's Dark Night Sequence."

The Major stepped aside, clearing the path to the door.

"The relocation convoy is already waiting downstairs. The Commander-in-Chief has ordered that you and your family must be properly settled by tonight."

"Specialist? Dark Night Sequence?" Old Lin turned his stiff neck, looking at his son with a face full of question marks.

He had been a soldier his whole life and knew exactly what the Dark Night Sequence represented.

It was one of the highest-level privileged classes in the military, not subject to organizational jurisdiction, with resources allocated directly from the military region's treasury.

What on earth had this kid done?!

Lin Yuan reached out, gently took the electromagnetic rifle from Old Lin's hand, disengaged the safety, and tossed it onto the table.

He supported Old Lin's slightly trembling arm and revealed a gentle smile: "Dad, I performed well in the school assessment and was noticed by the military region."

"The military has decided to allocate us better family housing, and besides..." Lin Yuan looked at Old Lin's scratched mechanical leg. "Your leg can be saved."

The Major did not interrupt the father and son's conversation.

He raised his hand and made a gesture.

Outside the door, a team of professional military logistics personnel quickly flooded in.

Their movements were extremely efficient; they didn't touch the broken furniture, but instead methodically packed and sealed Old Lin's treasured old military canteen, yellowed photo frames, and those scattered mementos.

A few minutes later, Old Lin was supported by two soldiers as he walked out of the dilapidated apartment building he had lived in for over a decade.

Downstairs, three fully armed heavy hovering armored vehicles were parked.

The surrounding alleys were filled with fully armed soldiers on guard.

The neighbors in the Slums hid behind their windows, watching this scene through the cracks, too shocked to even breathe.

Only when Old Lin sat in the spacious and luxurious back seat of the armored vehicle, feeling the softness of the leather seats, was he still in a daze.

He rubbed his calloused hands, looked at Lin Yuan sitting beside him, his lips moving, but he didn't know what to ask.

"Get some sleep, Dad." Lin Yuan patted the back of his hand. "You won't have to go pick up those scrap parts anymore."

The armored convoy started up, the engines emitting a low roar, flying toward the most heavily fortified direction in the suburbs of Jiangcheng.

Twenty minutes later.

The convoy passed through three heavily guarded energy blockade lines and drove into an area hidden deep in the mountains—the Spark Military Region Sanatorium.

The concentration of spiritual energy here was almost liquefied; every breath made one feel completely refreshed.

The towering ancient trees all around were densely covered with automatic fire control matrices and high-tier reconnaissance arrays; the security level was frighteningly high.

The armored vehicle stopped in front of an independent officer-level duplex villa nestled against the mountains and by the water.

Just as the father and son got out of the car, the Major came up to greet them, followed by a top-tier military medical team consisting of seven people in white coats.

"Specialist Lin, the medical equipment is ready." The Major made a gesture of invitation.

Inside the renovated hall on the first floor of the villa sat a massive instrument glowing with a soft green light—the Divine Source Repair Pod.

This was top-tier equipment used by the military to maintain the vital signs of severely injured high-ranking officers.

Old Lin was changed into medical garb by the military doctors and sent into the repair pod.

As the pod door closed, the rich green Divine Source nutrient solution slowly injected, submerging Old Lin's body.

When the nutrient solution touched his skin, Old Lin's whole body shuddered violently.

The next moment, his brows, which had been furrowed for who knows how many years, smoothed out.

The nerve pain brought about by his shattered godhead was slowly suppressed by this energy.

Old Lin let out an extremely faint sigh and fell into a deep sleep.
