126: The Judgment of Nature
"Who said it's dead?"
Jiang Yuan interrupted her.
He stood up and reached out into the void.
A transparent crystalline tube emitting a faint blue light appeared in his hand out of thin air.
Within the tube rippled a silvery-white liquid that seemed to be alive.
[Nano-Cell Remodeling Swarm (Medical Type)]
This was the highest-level medical resource in Eternal Star City; even a single drop could make flesh grow on bare bones. The tube in Jiang Yuan's hand was enough to make the Grim Reaper retreat.
"What are you doing?" Lin Xia was stunned.
Jiang Yuan did not explain.
He directly pulled out the stopper and poured the silver liquid onto the mother elephant's horrific facial wound.
The next second.
A miracle that Lin Xia would never forget occurred.
The moment the silver liquid touched the flesh, it seemed to instantly "come alive." It transformed into countless microscopic robots invisible to the naked eye, frantically flooding into the depths of the wound.
Zzz-zzz-zzz—
A faint sound, like silkworms eating mulberry leaves, echoed in the air.
The massive, bloody wound with exposed bone actually began to stop bleeding and scab over at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Severed blood vessels were reconnected, shattered bones were forcibly gathered and repaired, and missing muscle tissue proliferated wildly as if in a fast-forwarded growth sequence.
In just one minute.
The mother elephant's sliced-open face had completely healed, with even the skin texture restored to its original state, leaving only a faint white mark.
But that was not the most shocking part.
"Since the original tusks were stolen..."
Jiang Yuan looked at the empty base of the tusks, his eyes flickering slightly.
"Then I'll give you a better pair."
He reached out again, a ball of pure white light surging in his palm—a mixed catalysis of high-strength biological calcium and nano-alloys.
At the two healed sockets, two tusks as white as jade actually grew out slowly, like bamboo shoots after a rain, at a speed that defied biological common sense!
These newborn tusks were longer and whiter than before, their surfaces shimmering with a faint metallic luster.
These were true "indestructible" tusks.
"This... this..."
The camera in Lin Xia's hand fell onto the grass with a "clatter."
Her mouth hung wide open, feeling as if her worldview had been ground into the dirt a hundred times.
What was this?
Magic? Witchcraft? Or a divine manifestation?
"Moo—!!!"
As the final bit of tissue was repaired, the mother elephant, who had been on the verge of death, suddenly snapped her eyes open.
She felt the excruciating pain in her body vanish, replaced by an unprecedented surge of power.
She shook her massive head, then exerted force with her limbs and stood up with a crash!
A massive shadow once again loomed over the grass.
The baby elephant that had been kneeling and wailing nearby was startled, then let out a cry of joy that went out of tune, charging into its mother's embrace like crazy, rubbing its trunk against her leg.
The mother elephant lowered her head, gently touching her child with the newborn, even more beautiful tusks, her eyes full of the tenderness of a survivor.
Then.
This giant beast, now possessing sentience, turned around to face Jiang Yuan.
It did not attack, nor did it flee.
Thump.
Those two thick front legs slowly bent, and this 3.5-meter-tall behemoth actually knelt down to Jiang Yuan like a human.
Its long trunk was raised high, letting out an extremely loud and clear trumpet.
This was the highest etiquette of the elephant race.
A tribute to a deity.
Jiang Yuan looked at it, the coldness on his face finally melting, replaced by that lazy smile.
He stepped forward and patted the mother elephant's rough trunk.
"Get up."
"It just so happens my car is parked a bit far, and I don't feel like walking."
Jiang Yuan pointed to the broad back of the elephant and glanced at Lin Xia, who was still in a daze.
"Director Lin, what are you still staring for?"
"A sunset captured from this perspective will definitely win a Pulitzer Prize."
Lin Xia snapped out of it.
She picked up her camera, watching that small yet great figure standing before the giant beast, her heart pounding violently.
She didn't know who Jiang Yuan was.
But she knew she was witnessing a legend.
Ten minutes later.
The sunset of the Serengeti finally dyed half the sky red.
The setting sun was like blood, plating the entire savanna in a tragic yet glorious golden-red.
In that golden-red light and shadow, a massive African elephant walked with steady steps, slowly moving through the long grass.
Its two tusks reflected a holy white light in the sunset.
And on the broad back of the elephant.
Jiang Yuan sat cross-legged, a bottle of cold beer having appeared in his hand at some point, comfortably watching the far-off sunset.
Lin Xia sat behind him, clutching the corner of his clothes tightly, the sound of her shutter never stopping.
Below, the cheerful baby elephant skipped and hopped along with its mother, occasionally swinging its trunk to pluck wild flowers by the road.
The sunset completely sank below the horizon, and the last glimmer of twilight was about to be swallowed by the night.
Night falls extremely fast on the African savanna; one moment it was a magnificent golden-red scene, and the next, it was shrouded in the vast twilight.
The temperature began to drop rapidly. From the distant bushes, the hair-raising "laughter" of hyenas and the low roars of lion prides could already be heard.
Jiang Yuan sat on the broad spine that rose and fell with the mother elephant's steps, looking at Lin Xia, who was already exhausted from excitement and was lying on the elephant's back organizing photos.
"Taken enough photos?" Jiang Yuan asked casually.
"Enough! Once this set of photos is released, it will definitely cause a sensation in the entire photography world!"
Lin Xia caressed her camera lovingly, then seemed to think of something, and her expression dimmed. "Unfortunately, we couldn't catch those poachers.
Those guys are too cunning. If we don't bring them to justice, this elephant will be in danger sooner or later."
Jiang Yuan tilted his head back to take a sip of beer, his gaze looking several kilometers away into the depths of the pitch-black jungle.
A cold arc curled at the corner of his mouth.
"Don't worry."
"Here, no one can owe a debt to nature without paying it back."
In a blind spot where no one was paying attention, Jiang Yuan's slender finger lightly tapped the seemingly ordinary tactical watch on his wrist.
An invisible microwave command was instantly transmitted.
Thirty kilometers away from the scene of the incident.
On a dirt road hidden beside a dry riverbed, a modified Toyota pickup truck was bumping and fleeing frantically.
Four dark-skinned, fierce-looking men were sitting in the vehicle.
"Damn! What bad luck!"
The leader, "One-Eye," sitting in the passenger seat, spat hard, still clutching the large-caliber hunting rifle that had just slaughtered the elephant.
"We could have had a perfect pair of tusks, but some greenhorn showed up out of nowhere!"
The driver was sweating profusely, fear still lingering in his eyes: "Boss, what was that situation just now? That Easterner... how did he run so fast? And I think I heard the elephant didn't die?"
