140: Chapter 140 Your trump cards are all medical waste.

Donghai City Central Hospital, Basement Level 3.

Just past the stroke of midnight, the climate control System in the morgue hummed. The air was thick with an uncomfortable scent of formalin, mixed with a faint, musty odor.

Click.

In the silence, a crisp sound rang out, sounding exceptionally jarring.

It was not the sound of rats gnawing, but the noise of metal being violently twisted.

On the heavy steel door of the freezer unit number 30 in the deepest part of the room, a fist print suddenly bulged outward. Immediately after, with a loud "bang," the entire door flew off like a sheet of paper, slamming heavily into the opposite wall and embedding itself into the tiles.

A large, purplish-blue hand reached out from the darkness of the freezer, gripping the edge. The fingernails had long since turned black and fallen off, and the exposed finger bones were wreathed in wisps of visible, dark red Evil Qi.

The male corpse, originally shattered from a car accident, now crawled out in a grotesque posture. Its broken thigh bone was forcefully connected by black fascia, and the collapsed chest cavity bulged with clumps of writhing, tumorous flesh.

It stood on the cold floor and slowly raised its head.

Its originally murky eyeballs were now rolled back, with two clusters of eerie green ghost fire burning in the pupils.

Then, as if it had received some kind of command.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The entire morgue instantly erupted into chaos. Thirty freezer units burst open simultaneously, and thirty corpses of various states landed in perfect unison, like evil spirits crawling out of Hell.

They did not roar or shriek; there was only a low "gurgle" emanating from their throats.

These corpses gathered in the corridor and then, with stiff yet powerful strides, surged toward the exit. The five-centimeter-thick anti-theft iron door was like nothing to them; with a combined pull from several corpse hands, the entire cement section connected to the door frame was ripped right off.

Without any hesitation, without any pause.

This army of the dead had only one target—the Donghai Public Security Bureau.

...

The streets in the early morning were empty and desolate. A food blogger who had just finished a livestream was riding an electric scooter home, humming a little tune. As he passed the hospital entrance, he suddenly slammed on the brakes, leaving a black skid mark on the ground.

"What the f—..."

The blogger's eyes widened, and he nearly dropped his phone.

He saw a group of people wearing hospital gowns or burial clothes walking in a formation right in the middle of the street. These people had ashen faces; some had missing arms, others had heads lolling on their shoulders, yet they walked at an astonishing speed, each step striking the asphalt with a dull thud.

A taxi, unable to dodge in time, honked its horn and rushed forward.

The burly corpse leading the group stopped abruptly and slammed one hand onto the hood of the speeding car.

Screech—!

A harsh sound of twisting metal rang out. The taxi, weighing over a ton, was forced to a dead stop by its single hand; the hood instantly buckled, and billowing white smoke poured out. The driver, terrified out of his wits, scrambled out of the car and fled for his life.

"Guys! Something huge has happened!"

The blogger opened his livestream with trembling hands, aiming the camera at the terrifying figures.

"Donghai City is witnessing a zombie siege! This is not a drill! This is not a movie! Those are real dead people!"

The number of viewers in the livestream instantly skyrocketed from a few hundred to tens of thousands; the chat was flooded with comments, and panic spread like a virus across the internet in the dead of night.

...

Donghai Public Security Bureau, Intensive Care Unit No. 1.

This place had been converted into a temporary prison cell for high-security criminals.

Su Yang sat cross-legged on the bed; despite his hands and feet being locked in shackles equipped with an electric shock function, his face was currently filled with ecstasy.

He could sense it.

It was the throb of a Bloodline connection.

Thirty "Asura Blood Puppets"—this was the demonic seed he had planted after exhausting most of the essence and blood of that Physical Body. In this world where Spiritual Qi was exhausted, these monsters, which felt no pain, possessed infinite strength, and contained corpse poison, were an unsolvable, ultimate weapon.

"Gu Changan..."

Su Yang snapped his eyes open, his pupils blood-red, his mouth stretched wide to his ears.

"Do you hear it? The sound of death's footsteps."

He laughed wildly at the security camera in the corner, his voice as hoarse as a broken gong: "My army of the undead has arrived! They have no pain sensation, fear no bullets, and can continue fighting even if severed in two! What will you use to block them with your Mortal toys?!"

"Tonight, I will bathe this police station in blood and walk out over your corpses!"

In the monitoring room.

Gu Changan held a thermos cup in his hand, calmly watching the crazed Su Yang on the screen, then glanced at another screen showing the horde of corpses sprinting along the road.

"Boss, these things are a bit intense." Chen Xiaobei's fingers danced across the Keyboard, pulling up data, "Their strength is five times that of a normal person, their skin hardness is comparable to stab-proof vests, and... they have no vital signs; thermal imaging shows them as completely blue."

"Duh, how could dead people have vital signs."

Gu Changan blew on the tea leaves floating on the surface of the water; there was not a trace of panic in his eyes, but rather a hint of mockery.

"I've been waiting for this trump card of his. It would be strange if this old ghost didn't have a backup plan."

He picked up the walkie-talkie, his voice steady and powerful: "Attention all units, the target has entered the one-kilometer radius. I repeat, the opponents are not human; there is no need for warning shots, nor is there any need for negotiation."

"Withdraw all riot control ammunition from the warehouse."

Gu Changan ordered coldly: "Everyone switch to incendiary rounds and high-explosive grenades. Since they are medical waste, they must be treated with high-temperature sterilization."

...

Outside the police station gate.

The Special Police unit had already constructed three lines of defense. Dozens of armored vehicles were positioned across the middle of the road, and the searchlights on the roofs illuminated the entire street as if it were broad daylight.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The heavy footsteps drew closer.

The thirty blood Puppets appeared in the beams of light. Facing the dark muzzles and the steel defense line ahead, they felt no fear; instead, they accelerated, charging over like a herd of maddened wild buffalo.

"Fire!" The Special Police Captain roared.

Rat-tat-tat—!

Several heavy machine guns already set up simultaneously spat out half-meter-long tongues of fire. The dense hail of bullets, like a metal storm, instantly covered the few corpses charging at the front.

Pfft, pfft, pfft!

Flesh and blood flew everywhere.

The kinetic energy of the large-caliber bullets was terrifying, instantly severing the arms and legs of several corpses. But the Special Police present gasped in shock.

They did not fall.

Even with their legs broken, the corpses still clawed at the ground with their hands, crawling forward at an astonishing speed. Even when a large hole was blasted into their chests, with thick black water—not blood—oozing out, they still lunged forward, baring their fangs and claws.

Even at the severed stumps of their limbs, countless pieces of granulation tissue were writhing frantically, as if trying to regrow.

"Hahahaha!"

In the cell, Su Yang watched this scene through the small TV in his room, laughing until he doubled over.

"Idiots! How could Mortal firearms possibly kill Asura Blood Puppets! They are weapons infused with Devilish Qi; unless you can mince them into paste, they are perpetual killing machines!"

Outside the police station, a hint of unrest appeared in the defense line.

"Captain! They can't be killed! These things are too eerie!" A young Special Police officer's hands trembled as he changed his magazine.

Just then, Gu Changan's signature cold voice came over the broadcast on top of the police station building.

"What are you all panicking about?"

"Who told you these are immortal?"

Gu Changan stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the chaos below as if watching a farce.

"There is no such thing as an immortal thing in this world, only firepower that isn't heavy enough."

"They are carbon-based organisms; their main components are protein and calcium. As long as the temperature is high enough, even a powerful figure at the Golden Core Stage would be reduced to sarira."

Gu Changan pressed the talk button: "Team Two, prepare RPGs. Team Three, move up with the flamethrowers."

"Turn this street into a crematorium for me."

Boom!

As Gu Changan gave the order, several rockets trailing exhaust flames whistled out, striking precisely in the center of the corpse horde.

The massive explosion shattered all the glass on both sides of the street. Immediately after, four fire dragons dozens of meters long surged out from behind the defense line; it was military-grade high-temperature napalm.

The raging fire instantly swallowed the thirty arrogant blood Puppets.

The corpses, which had previously been impervious to blades and guns, instantly emitted crackling and popping sounds under the two-thousand-degree heat. Their black fat sizzled as it was roasted, and the so-called Devilish Qi was burned away completely in the face of physical high temperatures.

The wild laughter on Su Yang's face froze.
