82: Chapter 82: The Skull Sea Tactic? How about a flamethrower?
"My poison mist... My natural disaster..."
Bone Demon watched this scene before him, his withered fingers gripping his staff so tightly that his joints creaked.
The "Undead Plague" that had cost him thousands of reward points to redeem was now turning into pools of wastewater emitting a pungent chlorine smell, flowing down the drainage ditch of Central Park into the sewer.
That suffocating Aura of death in the air was completely gone, replaced by the smell of bleaching powder strong enough to knock someone unconscious.
This was simply the greatest humiliation for a noble Necromancer.
"Since biological attacks don't work, then let me show you what a real Undead Calamity is!"
Bone Demon was enraged by shame; he slammed his staff heavily onto the platform built of bones.
The eerie green soul fire in his eye sockets danced wildly, and a visible black ripple instantly spread across the entire area.
"Stand up! My servants!"
"Tear those tin cans to pieces! Drag that guy in the yellow uniform over here; I want to peel his skin off and turn it into a specimen!"
Following his hoarse roar, the previously sluggish group of skeletons suddenly seemed as if they had been injected with adrenaline.
Click-clack-click—
The dense sound of clashing bones made one's scalp tingle.
Thousands of skeletons draped in rotting flesh, brandishing bone knives, iron shovels, or even just their sharp hand bones, surged toward the entrance of Central Park like a white tide.
Although their bones were pitted and eroded by disinfectant, this terrifying quantity was enough to make up for the lack of quality.
Several young Special Police standing relatively close watched this overwhelming tide of bones, their palms covered in cold sweat as they gripped their anti-riot shields.
This had already exceeded the scope of their cognition.
However, Gu Changan, standing on top of the decontamination vehicle, didn't even lift an eyelid.
He glanced down at the tactical watch on his wrist, his tone still as steady as if he were holding a morning meeting.
"According to the on-site inspection, the illegal discharge source has not ceased its activities and is showing signs of resisting law enforcement with violence."
Gu Changan picked up the walkie-talkie, his cold voice piercing through the noisy battlefield.
"Chemical Defense Regiment, retreat thirty meters."
"First Company of the Garrison Engineer Battalion, move forward."
As the order was issued, the chemical defense soldiers who were spraying disinfectant quickly closed the valves and retreated behind the armored vehicles in a well-trained manner.
Replacing them were two rows of burly soldiers wearing thick, silver heat-resistant suits and carrying huge fuel tanks on their backs.
The weapons in their hands were no longer water guns, but dark, thick, long barrels.
Flamethrower soldiers.
One of the most brutal branches of the modern army.
The skeleton soldiers charging at the very front were less than twenty meters away from the defensive line.
Their hollow lower jaws opened and closed, seemingly emitting a silent mockery, mocking these humans for actually attempting to stop the advance of the undead with a few fire sticks.
Bone Demon stood on the platform and laughed wildly: "It's useless! Physical attacks are ineffective against the undead! Even if you smash the bones, I can infinitely reassemble them..."
"According to the 'Medical Waste Management Regulations' and Article 47 of the 'Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases'."
Gu Changan interrupted his wild laughter, even taking the time to leisurely adjust his gas mask.
"For highly pathogenic pathogens and their carriers, thorough harmless high-temperature treatment is mandatory."
He waved his arm sharply. "Ignite."
Pshhh—WHOOSH!
Dozens of orange-red fire dragons roared out instantly.
This was no ordinary flame.
This was military-grade napalm, mixed with thickening agents and combustion accelerants; once it touched you, it was like maggots on bones, impossible to shake off, and the combustion temperature could instantly reach over 1,200 degrees Celsius.
The shrill sound of air being torn apart drowned out the sound of the skeletons' advance.
The hundreds of skeletons charging in the front row were instantly swallowed by the sea of fire.
There was no suspense at all.
In the face of this high temperature of over a thousand degrees, that so-called "Undead Black Magic Shield" was as fragile as a layer of window paper, and it was burned through in the blink of an eye.
And then, the bones.
The main component of human bones is calcium phosphate, which easily decomposes and becomes brittle under high temperatures.
There was no such thing as "infinite reassembly."
Only complete chemical decomposition.
Crackle, pop—!
A dense sound of bursting echoed in the sea of fire; it was the sound of skulls exploding under high heat, sounding just like a grand popcorn party.
Those previously aggressive skeleton soldiers turned into burning torches the moment they touched the flames.
They felt no pain and still mechanically tried to charge forward.
But with every step they took, bones were burned into charcoal or directly calcified and disintegrated.
They only took three steps.
With a crash.
A skeleton's thigh bone snapped from the burning, its upper body fell heavily to the ground, and it was immediately covered by more surging napalm, completely turning into ash.
The fire dragons continued to pour out.
A wall of fire dozens of meters long stretched across the entrance of Central Park, turning this former leisure Holy Land into a massive incinerator.
The air was filled with an indescribable burnt smell, the scent of protein carbonization and calcium decomposition.
The army of skeletons that had been surging like a tide just a moment ago was disappearing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The piles of bones that had once been mountain-high were now undergoing an efficient, industrialized volume reduction process.
"No... This is impossible!"
The wild laughter on Bone Demon's face froze.
He watched helplessly as the undead army he had painstakingly accumulated had absolutely no power to fight back against those orange-red flames.
Even the True Fire of the Immortal Realm wasn't this overbearing!
And this kind of flame didn't seem to require any consumption of magic power at all; it just kept spewing endlessly, as if it didn't cost anything!
"Is this your human method?! Rude! Barbaric!"
Bone Demon jumped up and down in exasperation, pointing his staff at Gu Changan: "This is unfair! If you have the guts, let's duel with swords! What kind of skill is it to use this kind of alchemical potion!"
Gu Changan stood on high, looking at the rapidly thickening layer of gray-white powder below, his eyes filled only with professional rigor.
"A duel?"
He shook his head and picked up the megaphone.
"I think you've misunderstood. We are not at war; we are doing sanitation work."
"For this kind of non-recyclable waste that carries a large amount of germs and is aggressive, high-temperature incineration is currently the most scientific and environmentally friendly disposal method."
Having said that, he added another sentence to the adjutant beside him.
"Notify the comrades at the Parks Bureau; after the fire is out, collect the ashes on the ground."
"This is excellent phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; the flowers and plants in Central Park will surely grow well next year, saving a sum of money on fertilizer."
The adjutant looked at the mummified mage in the distance, raging impotently in the firelight, and his mouth twitched: "Director, that... should we burn the leader too?"
Gu Changan glanced at Bone Demon, who was still trying to use weak magic to resist the high-temperature heat wave.
At this moment, Bone Demon's gray robe had been scorched to shreds by the heat wave, and his originally eerie ghost fire was rendered dull and lackluster by the firelight, looking exactly like an unlicensed street vendor cornered in an alley by the urban management officers.
"That one cannot be used as fertilizer."
Gu Changan said coldly, "That is the principal offender. According to the 'Anti-Terrorism Law' and the 'Criminal Law', the cases he has on his record are enough to warrant five minutes of execution."
"Since the trash cleanup is finished, it's time to proceed with sorted recycling."
Gu Changan leaped down from the top of the vehicle, took off his bulky chemical protection suit, and revealed the crisp uniform underneath.
He straightened his tie and strode toward the area of ash that was still emitting residual heat.
The Special Police behind him followed quickly, their dark gun barrels locking onto Bone Demon on the platform.
Bone Demon watched the approaching crowd, the ghost fire in his eyes flickering violently.
The skeleton sea was gone.
The poison mist was gone too.
The natives of this plane didn't play by the rules at all!
"Don't think you've won!"
Bone Demon let out a shrill, piercing scream.
