29: Chapter 29 Massive Zombie Horde
He said Chen Jianguo opposed using living people for experiments, so he was pushed out of the core team. He took several students and fled to this backup laboratory, hiding until now.
"Who exactly is that 'K'?" Wang Jie asked.
Chen Jianguo shook his head: "I don't know. We've only seen the people he sent, never the man himself. But one thing is certain—behind him is a very large organization."
Wang Jie fell silent.
A very large organization.
Larger than Jingang, larger than the Alliance, perhaps even larger than himself.
Just as he was about to ask more, a sudden rush of urgent footsteps came from outside.
A Sniper rushed in: "Commander! Something's wrong!"
Wang Jie stood up: "What happened?"
"A zombie tide! It's massive! At least two thousand! They're coming this way!"
Wang Jie's pupils contracted.
Two thousand?
He only had thirteen people with him.
"Retreat!" he shouted, "Retreat, quickly!"
They rushed out of the small building and ran toward the tanks.
In the distance, on the horizon, a gray tide was surging forward.
Two thousand zombies, a vast and mighty force, like a tsunami.
And among those zombies, there were at least ten massive figures.
Mutants.
Ten of them.
Wang Jie jumped onto a tank and roared at the driver: "Quick! Full speed ahead! Break out!"
The tank roared to life and charged toward the path they had come from.
But the zombie tide was too fast.
They poured in from all directions like a tide, surrounding the entire Industrial Park.
"Fire!" Wang Jie ordered.
The tanks began to fire, the infantry began to fire, and the Radiation Engineers began to fire their Radiation Cannons.
But there were too many zombies. As soon as one batch was killed, another arrived. Those Mutants were at the very front; bullets hitting them was like hitting rubber.
A Mutant rushed to the side of a tank, grabbed the barrel, and flipped it with a forceful heave—that tank, weighing dozens of tons, was actually overturned.
Wang Jie's heart sank to the bottom.
"Keep pushing! Don't stop!"
His tank crashed through a group of zombies and charged toward a narrow street. Behind him, the infantry vehicles followed closely.
But there were too many zombies.
Every step forward came at a massive cost.
A Heavy Soldier was caught by a Mutant and torn in half.
A Radiation Engineer was submerged by the zombie swarm and could no longer get up.
Two tanks had been overturned; only Wang Jie's was still moving forward.
Wang Jie gritted his teeth, staring fixedly ahead.
Five hundred meters more, and they could break through the encirclement.
Four hundred meters.
Three hundred meters.
Just when he thought he could see hope, a massive Mutant descended from the sky, landing right in front of his tank.
It was a Mutant larger than any he had seen before—at least three meters tall, covered in a black carapace, with blood-red eyes.
It opened its mouth and let out a deafening roar at the tank.
Wang Jie closed his eyes.
It's over.
Just then, a sharp whistling sound came.
A shell descended from the sky, accurately hitting the Mutant's head.
The Mutant's head exploded, its massive body swayed twice, and it crashed to the ground.
Wang Jie was stunned.
He looked up.
In the sky, an Armed Helicopter was circling. On its fuselage was a familiar emblem—the emblem of the Alliance.
Following that, more helicopters appeared on the horizon. On the ground, dozens of tanks roared as they charged, firing frantically at the zombie swarm.
It was the Alliance.
The Alliance had come to save him.
Wang Jie's eyes grew a bit moist.
He said to the driver: "Charge! Keep charging!"
The tank started up again, charging toward the street that led to survival.
Behind them, the Alliance army was fiercely engaged with the zombie tide.
He had survived.
