9: Chapter 9 Lin Wan'er's Abilities

After Chen Xue arrived, Lin Waner's work became much easier.

Both were from medical backgrounds, and they worked together with great tacit understanding.

Lin Waner handled internal matters, responsible for the survivors' daily health management, while Chen Xue handled external matters, responsible for treating the survivors' external injuries and emergencies.

In just a few days, the sanitary conditions in the base improved significantly.

The survivors were no longer crowded together but were assigned to different rooms, each with a mattress.

Body temperatures were measured twice daily, morning and evening, and anyone with abnormalities was immediately isolated for observation.

Wounds were dressed daily, sheets were washed weekly, and trash was disposed of daily.

Wang Jie watched these changes, and his admiration for Lin Waner grew a little more.

This woman was truly professional.

But Lin Waner's skills didn't stop there.

One day, a survivor suddenly developed a high fever, with their temperature soaring to forty degrees.

After checking, Lin Waner determined it was a bacterial infection and required antibiotics.

But there weren't many antibiotics left.

Wang Jie was preparing to use funds to create some, but Lin Waner stopped him.

"Don't waste them," she said. "I'll try another method."

She had Chen Xue get some things—garlic, ginger, and honey, all dug out from the supplies scavenged previously.

She crushed the garlic, sliced the ginger, boiled them with the honey, and had the survivor drink it.

Then she changed cold compresses every two hours and wiped the body with alcohol to lower the fever.

After a day and a night, the survivor's temperature came down.

Wang Jie watched all this, feeling somewhat incredulous.

"Where did you learn all this?"

Lin Waner wiped her sweat: "It's a folk remedy passed down in my family. My grandfather was a traditional Chinese doctor, and he taught me some things since I was young."

Wang Jie looked at her, suddenly feeling that this woman was unfathomable.

"What else can you do?"

Lin Waner thought for a moment: "I can cook, sew clothes, tell stories to children, and also... fix electrical circuits?"

Wang Jie was stunned: "Fix electrical circuits?"

Lin Waner nodded: "I took an elective course in electrical work in college, so I can handle simple circuit problems."

Wang Jie was silent for a few seconds.

He felt like he had found a treasure.

That evening, the base's electrical circuits really had a problem.

It was unclear which part had a bad contact, but the emergency lights in the entire underground parking garage flickered, and a few went out completely.

Wang Jie was just about to have the Engineer fix it, but Lin Waner had already grabbed the toolbox and went over.

She climbed up and down, checking for over half an hour, and finally found a loose wire in a distribution box.

After connecting it, all the lights turned on.

Wang Jie stood by, watching her come down from the ladder, her face covered in dust, but her eyes were shining.

"It's fixed," she said.

Wang Jie took the toolbox: "Thank you."

Lin Waner smiled: "You're welcome. Didn't you say that we are in this together?"

Wang Jie looked at her, suddenly having a strange feeling.

It was a feeling he had never experienced before.

"Lin Waner."

"Hmm?"

"Is there anything you want?"

Lin Waner was stunned: "What?"

"I mean," Wang Jie didn't quite know how to express it, "you've helped me so much, is there anything you want? As long as I can do it."

Lin Waner looked at him, silent for a few seconds.

Then she said: "I want to find my parents."

Wang Jie was stunned.

"They are in my hometown," Lin Waner said. "After the apocalypse, the phones stopped working. I don't know if they are still alive."

Wang Jie was silent for a while.

"When the base is stable," he said, "I'll go with you."

Lin Waner looked at him, light flashing in her eyes.

"Really?"

Wang Jie nodded: "Really."

Lin Waner smiled.

That smile was more beautiful than ever.
