47: Chapter 47 The Decisive Blow

Although the Mother Worm had been eliminated, Wang Jie knew there was one thing left undone.

That heartbeat from the very depths.

That sound was stronger than any Mother Worm.

That was—the Mother Emperor.

The ultimate ruler of the Mutant Beasts.

The Radar Station indicated that it was still deep within the cave, not having emerged yet.

Wang Jie stared at the signal, remaining silent for a long time.

If he ignored it, it would eventually hatch, creating more Mother Worms and more Mutant Beasts.

If he went in to kill it, he might die.

What to do?

Lin Waner walked over and stood by his side.

"Are you going in?" she asked.

Wang Jie nodded.

Lin Waner remained silent for a moment.

Then she said: "I will accompany you."

Wang Jie shook his head: "No. It is too dangerous inside."

Lin Waner looked at him, her eyes firm.

"Wang Jie," she said, "I am not your subordinate. I am your comrade. You have the right to decide to take risks yourself, and I also have the right to decide to accompany you."

Wang Jie was stunned.

He looked at her, looking into those firm eyes, and a strange feeling welled up in his heart.

Then he smiled.

"Alright," he said, "together."

They brought the strongest warriors—Gene Warrior 01 (lightly injured), 02 (lightly injured), and three Gene Warriorss who had just arrived from the base—to go deep into the cave together.

This time, they were fully prepared.

Everyone wore the latest protective suits and carried the strongest weapons. The Radiation Engineer prepared the Radiation Cannon at maximum power, the Sniper prepared armor-piercing incendiary rounds, and each Gene Warriors carried a needle of enhancement serum—in case they were injured, they could immediately inject it and unleash extraordinary power in a short time.

They walked for a long time and finally reached the deepest part of the cave.

There was a huge space there, even larger than the previous one. In the center was a massive cocoon, ten times larger than the cocoons of the previous Mother Worms.

The cocoon was glowing.

A faint red light, flashing on and off, like a heartbeat.

"That is the Mother Emperor," Wang Jie said.

He raised his hand, about to order fire, when suddenly, the cocoon cracked open.

A huge claw reached out from inside.

Then a second, a third—

When the thing crawled completely out of the cocoon, everyone gasped.

It was a huge—dragon.

Not a real dragon, but a lizard-like monster with four legs, a pair of wings, and a long tail. It was covered in black scales, and its eyes were golden with vertical pupils.

It was larger than a building.

It looked at Wang Jie and his group, opened its mouth, and let out a heaven-shaking roar.

The sound was like a threat, and also like—a declaration of war.

Wang Jie took a deep breath and raised his hand.

"Fire!"

All weapons fired simultaneously.

But the bullets hit its scales, only splashing a string of sparks. The artillery shells exploded, but it didn't even sway. The radiation beam hit it, and its scales only changed color slightly.

It was too strong.

So strong that it made people despair.

Wang Jie gritted his teeth and continued shooting.

But he knew that if this continued, they would all die here.

He needed a way.

A way to kill it in one strike.

He looked at the Mother Emperor's abdomen.

There was a scale there, the color was lighter than the others, looking like—a weak point.

"Everyone, concentrate fire on that light-colored scale on its abdomen!"

All firepower turned to that position.

That scale began to crack.

The Mother Emperor felt the danger, struggled crazily, using its claws to scratch and its tail to sweep. Two Gene Warriorss were struck, flew out and hit the wall, never getting up again.

Wang Jie ignored it and continued to shoot.

The cracks grew larger and larger.

Finally, that scale shattered.

Inside was soft flesh.

"Fire!"

All bullets, artillery shells, and radiation beams shot into that wound.

The Mother Emperor let out a shrill scream, and its huge body began to sway.

It fell.

With a thunderous crash, the entire cave trembled.

Wang Jie stood in front of it, panting heavily.

He had done it.

He killed the Mother Emperor.

The system's notification sound rang out:

【Killed Mutant Beast Mother Emperor × 1, obtained Funds +100,000, Mutation Core +100, Special Gene Fragment +20, Epic Loot +1】

Wang Jie didn't look at those numbers.

He just looked at that huge corpse, a strange feeling welling up in his heart.

How did this thing come to be?

Was it the result of natural evolution, or—artificially created?

If it was artificially created, then how terrifying must the person who created it be?

He didn't know.

But he knew he had to find out.
