Chapter 102 The Singer, Oh, Singer 35
"...Why was he monitoring the men's restroom? Is he gay?"
The other person's handwriting was a bit erratic, clearly showing great disdain for such behavior: "What do you mean gay? He bought ten mini-surveillance cameras, and the merchant threw in a trial sample. He felt that leaving it unused would be a waste, so he just installed it in the men's restroom to not let it go to waste."
Lin Xiangjun was speechless with amazement.
What a 'not letting it go to waste'.
"Then the camera he installed was discovered, and the contents were taken out and watched. You have no idea how disgusting it was! Just thinking about it now makes me feel nauseous."
Xia Suhe seemed to finally snap out of her shock.
"Was this around the time summer break was about to start? I remember around then, one day he suddenly got beaten black and blue, to the point where he was almost unrecognizable."
"Pretty much. Anyway, the whole thing was incredibly disgusting, but the principal suppressed it, so not many people know about it."
"But what does this have to do with Hu Zhengzheng? I don't think our class really spoke to him back then, did we?"
"You don't know, the most disgusting part is right here!!!"
The writing was so agitated that the paper was torn again.
Accustomed to this, Lin Xiangjun flipped to the next page.
"You really must not tell anyone about this, remember that, otherwise I'll absolutely never talk to you again!"
"I won't tell, I won't tell. What happened exactly?"
"You know during that time, he was isolated by his entire class because of that incident—which is normal, right? If there's a pervert in your class spending all day racking his brain for ways to watch people take a dump, who could stand that? Not hanging him up and beating him to death is already being good-tempered."
"But this Hou Pan is truly sick in the head. He felt that this was clearly just a small mistake made by an adolescent boy, and that his entire class and the teachers were just making a fuss over nothing because they looked down on him. After that, he became even more of a psycho."
"As you know, Hu Zhengzheng is just too kind-hearted. We've warned her before that those beggars on the side of the road are all scammers just acting pitiful, and every time she says okay, but the next time she still gives them money..."
"It was the same this time. Once before, when she was late for school, she ran into that Hou Pan on the way. He was sitting by the school's Artificial Lake acting all strange, and Hu Zhengzheng felt he was in a bad mood, so she gave him the two buns she had for breakfast."
At this point, there was another silence.
Finally, there was only Xia Suhe's trembling handwriting:
"Are you saying that Zheng Zheng was targeted by this scum because of her own kindness?"
Lin Xiangjun flipped through the rest of the pages and confirmed there was nothing more, then she tucked the book into her pocket.
Hou Pan.
She recited the name once.
Although the conversation between Xia Suhe and her deskmate focused more on explosive incidents and gossip, with the actual useful clues being intermittent, it didn't matter. Lin Xiangjun could piece together the general events herself, and knowing that the primary suspect was Hou Pan was enough.
This trip was truly a bountiful harvest.
In a good mood, she tossed the completely useless cloak into her pouch, then straightened her clothes to ensure her appearance was fine before leaving Room 408 for Unit 2.
In the stairwell, Li Dongwei and Black-skinned Sugarcane had already left.
She detached the eavesdropping device from the wall, inserted the memory card into her phone, and put on her Bluetooth earphones.
After she had left, the two of them stayed for about fifteen minutes before departing.
However, their conversation wasn't very substantial. After complaining about the high difficulty of the instance and the possibility that they might not be able to leave, they began to attack Lin Xiangjun.
Lin Xiangjun: ...
Hmm? How did I get involved in this?
Listening more closely, oh, they suspected she had many rules in her possession and was secretly hiding them from them.
Well, no need to suspect, it's true.
Lin Xiangjun was only two rules away from unlocking all the instance rules—if there were only fifteen rules in total.
They weren't wrong about that.
But she didn't agree with the part about 'secretly hiding' them.
She had never hidden them or refused to tell anyone; she had said from the very beginning that anyone with rules was welcome to exchange with her.
If you can't find the rules yourselves, you can't blame it on me, can you?
If everything up to this point was still within the realm of human communication, the next sentence immediately made Lin Xiangjun's killing intent surge.
Li Dongwei said hesitantly, "Jie Yu, do you think... we could snatch the rules from that woman named Lin?"
Black-skinned Sugarcane slapped something with a 'thwack', and Li Dongwei let out a muffled groan.
"Are you crazy? Didn't you see your boss, that Tiger Wang? He's ranked 8097 on the Minor Leaderboard, and even he is polite to that woman. What makes you think the two of us can snatch anything from her?"
Li Dongwei clearly disagreed with this view, as he muttered softly:
"I think that woman named Lin isn't actually that scary. Brother Wang looks fierce, but he's actually quite kind-hearted; he's polite to everyone, whether it's the Landlady or that woman."
"I think he's only polite to that Lin woman because Brother Wang is well-mannered... If she were really that powerful, why hasn't she taken any action after more than a day?"
Black-skinned Sugarcane snorted, followed by the rustling sound of clothing friction: "Suit yourself, anyway, I'm not going to go looking for trouble for myself."
"Hey, don't leave..."
Black-skinned Sugarcane left.
Li Dongwei was still sitting in the stairwell.
However, Lin Xiangjun waited for half a minute without hearing any further movement. Just as she was about to pause the recording, she heard Li Dongwei click his tongue.
"What a pain."
The voice wasn't loud, but it was a slightly sinister tone, different from before.
He slowly stood up, followed by the crisp click of a lighter—he probably lit a cigarette for himself—and then a few faint sounds of puffing.
"And here I thought he was just a brainless brute... I really underestimated him."
"What does that Lin woman have that makes others so wary? It's just a damn paper figure, probably found in some instance by sheer luck."
"A newcomer... I bet she'll struggle just to pay the fifty-yuan weekly employment fee..."
This was followed by another long silence, presumably him deep in thought with the cigarette in his mouth. After a long while, a muffled shout came from a distance.
Li Dongwei cursed under his breath, followed by the sound of a shoe grinding on the floor, likely stubbing out the cigarette.
"Brother Wang! I'm in the stairwell!"
His voice returned to the slightly timid manner he had when he was semi-transparent, followed by messy footsteps, and then complete silence.
This Li Dongwei is quite the two-faced person.
She wondered why he was hiding things all day and why he was instigating others to attack her.
And most importantly, he actually knew about the paper figure.
In the novel, information regarding paper figures only started trickling out a year after the instances arrived.
At this point in time... where did he find out from?
