Chapter 26 Who Am I 25
It was 6:30 PM when she returned to the fifth floor. It got dark early in the instance, so Lin Xiangjun had to turn on her Flashlight.
There was a bowl of shredded pork with garlic sauce over rice in the refrigerator. As usual, Lin Xiangjun had Wang Min place half a bowl at the door and put the remaining half into her space.
When Wang Min returned, she was still holding that small bowl of tomato and egg over rice.
"Master, this half bowl of rice hasn't been touched."
Lin Xiangjun was not surprised; she nodded to indicate she understood.
She had just eaten some dried mango and wasn't very hungry, so she bought two teriyaki chicken rice balls to eat. After finishing, she tossed the packaging into her space and began planning her itinerary for the night.
Yes, Lin Xiangjun planned to go out tonight to look for clues.
Lin Xiangjun and Wang Min had spent the whole day wandering outside today. They had circled the entire residential complex four times and hadn't seen a trace of the Cleaner. Excluding the option that the Cleaner didn't exist, there were only two possibilities.
First, the Cleaner only appeared under specific conditions.
【3. Please consciously maintain the hygiene of the residential complex; do not litter, and keep the grounds clean. If you see trash, please throw it into a green trash can. There are no black trash cans in the complex.】
Since the complex rules had warned against littering, but when Lin Xiangjun was chatting with the aunties while eating melon seeds, melon seed shells would often fall from their hands when they were deep in conversation.
Lin Xiangjun had even specially waited nearby, yet no Cleaner appeared.
Then there was only the second possibility: the Cleaner did not appear during the day.
If the Cleaner appeared at night, then Lin Xiangjun would have to take a walk in the dark.
Having made her decision, Lin Xiangjun immediately took action. She pushed open the window, crouched on the window frame, and used a sharp knife to cut away the security mesh bit by bit.
She was guarding against the possibility that the Eerie Parents might block the door, making it impossible to leave through the front entrance; she ultimately had to leave herself a way out.
Tonight, the Eerie Parents were still trying to make Lin Xiangjun break the rules, but since she had figured out how to avoid them, it was naturally impossible for her to fall into their traps. She went back to her room to sleep early.
At 9:00 PM, the Eerie Parents went to rest on time.
Hearing her parents close their door, Lin Xiangjun moved lightly as she climbed out of bed, holding her breath, and slowly opened her bedroom door.
"Good daughter, why aren't you sleeping yet?"
The Eerie Father's head suddenly leaned in. During the day, he looked no different from a normal person, but as night fell, the expression on his face began to distort, and the smile on his face was rigid and stiff.
With this sudden face-to-face encounter, Lin Xiangjun was so startled she held her breath, and the sharp knife in her hand almost stabbed out, but fortunately, she restrained herself.
Lin Xiangjun's voice remained normal: "Dad, I got up to use the bathroom. It's so late, what are you doing here?"
"Oh, using the bathroom—" The Eerie Father's smile didn't change in the slightest; the curve of his mouth didn't change when he spoke, as if he were wearing a mask, giving him an inhuman, distorted feeling.
"Then hurry up and go, ka ka, hurry up and go."
Lin Xiangjun steadied her movements and, under the Eerie Father's gaze, stepped out and walked towards the bathroom one step at a time.
Even with her back turned, she could still feel her father's gaze, falling on her back like a physical substance, as if it wanted to bore two holes into her.
Sure enough, wanting to go out at night was not that simple.
The Eerie Father just watched her like that, watching her go into the bathroom and come back out, keeping his eyes on her until she entered her room.
The moment before Lin Xiangjun's room door closed, she could still see the Eerie Father's eyes—they were completely beyond the scope of a human's; both eye sockets had shifted up and down, looking just like a flatfish, staring straight at her.
Lin Xiangjun: ...
Lin Xiangjun closed the door.
That's too disgusting, bro! Can you try a bit harder when disguising yourself as a human? What human looks like a fallen giraffe, with their horizontal eyes turned vertical, and their double eyelids shifted to their lower eyelids?
You're really going too far like this!
Wang Min was sitting on the edge of the bed watching Lin Xiangjun, who was leaning against the door with her back turned. She tilted her head and asked: "Master, going through the window?"
Lin Xiangjun nodded.
The security mesh on the window had been cut with a sharp knife this afternoon. Fearing that it would make noise if it were too late, she hadn't even closed the window.
Everything was ready, except for jumping out the window.
From the fifth floor.
Lin Xiangjun sighed helplessly. If it weren't absolutely necessary, she wouldn't want to go out through the window at all.
Although she was mentally prepared to deal with the instance, her body wasn't!
She had transmigrated here three days before the apocalypse. This physical fitness was at the level of "melting in the mouth." Although she had a constitution enhancement booklet, that thing had such huge side effects that she couldn't possibly use it in the instance. Besides that, out of 123 items, not a single one could improve her constitution.
Lin Xiangjun stood by the window and looked down.
Then she reached out to support herself against the wall and said solemnly: "Under normal circumstances, attacking concrete from this height is enough to give the whole school a holiday."
Guaranteed death!
Wang Min soothed her: "But Master, you aren't jumping down directly, are you? Isn't there a rope? Patrick Star and I will hold on tight and won't let you fall."
【A long rope: A rope, its only feature is that it is long. As long as you have underworld currency, it can extend infinitely. Use it, but be careful not to let it get cut; it's not that sturdy.】
A D-rank item, it looked like an ordinary hemp rope, about as thick as two fingers. It felt a bit prickly to the touch, and besides being long, it was useless.
Lin Xiangjun handed the end of the rope to Wang Min and tied the other end around her own waist. She was truly afraid of dying, so she wrapped the rope around her waist three full times and tied five knots, leaving a lump the size of two fists on her waist.
"I just feel like this rope isn't sturdy."
It would be better if it were a nylon rope or something; this level of hemp rope was truly unsettling.
Patrick Star, hearing his name, stood up slowly and waved his hand slowly, then, imitating Lin Xiangjun, grabbed the end of the rope and prepared to wrap it around his own waist.
His waist was thick enough to equal four of Lin Xiangjun's with room to spare. The rope wasn't long to begin with when no underworld currency was used, and because Lin Xiangjun was afraid of dying, she had wrapped two-thirds of it around her own waist. When he unexpectedly wrapped it, Lin Xiangjun was caught off guard and was suddenly pulled over, colliding with his chest with a "bang."
Although this guy looked like he was made of light pink paper material, it was only after bumping into him that she realized he was as hard as a steel helmet. It hurt so much that Lin Xiangjun saw stars, tears welled up, and a line of nosebleed slowly trickled down.
"What kind of material is he made of that he's so hard?" Lin Xiangjun pulled the rope out of his hands and covered her nose in frustration.
"Advanced paper figures are made of paper before their evolution is explicitly completed; they are solid and indeed very hard." Wang Min pushed Patrick Star to the side and pulled out two pieces of tissue to stuff into Lin Xiangjun's nostrils. "It will be better once he eats more Eerie and finishes evolving."
Paper is actually very heavy; this can be known from every time one had to move books for exams in high school. Anyone who has ever moved that huge, thick stack of books knows the weight well.
Just think about it: how much did those books weigh, the ones that made your hands feel like they were about to break when you carried them? How much heavier and harder must this paper figure be, which was taller than Lin Xiangjun and had a waist equivalent to four and a half of hers?
After that hit, Lin Xiangjun felt that even if she fell from the fifth floor and attacked the concrete, it would be no worse than this.
She patted Patrick Star irritably, producing two "thud-thud" sounds of a solid, heavy impact.
"With such a heavy weight, you must hold onto the rope. If you really let me fall and get hurt, given your appetite, you can just wait to starve to death outside."
After this whole ordeal, Lin Xiangjun didn't feel as nervous anymore. She spent some underworld currency to lengthen the rope and instructed Wang Min to lower the rope little by little.
There were air conditioning units outside this residential building, but they were too far away for her to reach, so she could only step on the frame of the security window and slowly move downwards.
However, she had never practiced rock climbing, and her arm strength didn't support her climbing down on her own. She could only rely on the rope around her waist to support her body, just like Rapunzel letting the witch down.
Working at heights, and the safety factor was absolutely zero.
Lin Xiangjun silently gripped the hemp rope in her hands, clutching a handful of bitter tears for her miserable fate.
To trap the princess, the witch must have also put in quite a bit of effort. First, she couldn't be afraid of heights; second, she had to have absolute confidence in the princess's strength, confidence that she wouldn't be exhausted while doing work on an object weighing over a hundred jin—with that kind of self-confidence, she would succeed in anything she did.
So thought Lin Xiangjun, who was hanging in mid-air, pale with fright.
