Chapter 51 Who Am I? (50)

The kid's emotional intelligence is really low.

What happened to "seeing through something but not saying it"?

Just shut up and witness your master's miraculous operations; why keep asking? Ask again and I'll dock your pay.

Under Lin Xiangjun's gentle gaze, Wang Min shrank her neck and awkwardly pulled the heart out from her bosom.

"Then this, do we return it to Qin Jianyuan now?"

Lin Xiangjun took out her phone and checked the time.

6:40 PM.

There were still twenty minutes until the Eerie Parents returned home.

"Give me the heart, and go call Aunt Wang... what floor does she live on again?"

"The third floor," Wang Min reminded her.

"Go upstairs and tell her to come down. Say the instance is almost over and tell her to get ready."

Wang Min agreed.

Qin Jianyuan's heart felt a bit like the pig hearts sold in supermarkets, but smaller, and it oozed black water when squeezed, looking as if it had spoiled.

Lin Xiangjun felt a bit disgusted.

She took off her tracksuit jacket to wrap the heart, then pushed open the building's entrance door, which looked a bit newer after the Stair Ghost had disappeared.

Qin Jianyuan was standing right at the door.

"You killed him."

A smile of relief was on Qin Jianyuan's face; as he spoke, he stood on his tiptoes to peer behind Lin Xiangjun.

Through the open building door, the pitch-black stairwell was visible. Lin Xiangjun obligingly stepped to the left, allowing the empty stairwell to be fully revealed to Qin Jianyuan.

Qin Jianyuan was so excited he was about to run into the stairwell, but Lin Xiangjun smiled and reached out to stop him.

"You'll have plenty of time to admire it after I leave. For now, don't forget our agreement," Lin Xiangjun reminded him.

Qin Jianyuan stopped, looking a bit unhappy.

"I didn't say I wouldn't give it to you," he grumbled, though his movements were quite nimble as he reached into his waistband and started rummaging.

Lin Xiangjun: "..."

This action was damn familiar.

On her first day in the instance, when she hadn't changed clothes and had no pockets, she had rummaged through her crotch just as wretchedly when the instance placed all the items there.

Doing it herself was one thing since no one was around; she just had to deal with a moment of embarrassment.

But now, they were out in the open without any cover, and watching Qin Jianyuan rummage like that was truly...

Lin Xiangjun couldn't help but ask, "Do your clothes not have pockets? Can't you use a bag to hold it?"

Qin Jianyuan was currently grabbing his own calf with both hands, pulling his leg out from his waistband like drawing a sword. Hearing her, he rolled his eyes mercilessly, reached into his jacket pocket, and turned the whole pocket inside out.

"How big of a pocket do you think could fit my leg?"

"Even so, you can't..."

The act of pulling an entire thigh out of one's crotch was still too shocking for Lin Xiangjun.

Perhaps Qin Jianyuan was too young when he died to realize anything. Lin Xiangjun held it in, but eventually couldn't resist asking, "Have you ever eaten geoduck?"

Qin Jianyuan had already pulled out his arms and legs and was now pulling out his torso. He asked in confusion, "What's that?"

"A type of shellfish."

Qin Jianyuan tossed his torso onto the ground and wrinkled his nose in disgust. "I don't eat those nasty things."

"You don't like seafood or river food?"

Qin Jianyuan looked at her as if she were an idiot. "Eerie beings eat either human flesh or their own kind. Didn't you know that?"

Lin Xiangjun knew. However, being questioned like that by a child was a bit embarrassing, so she decisively chose to change the subject.

"If you hide everything in your crotch, it's no wonder that Stair Ghost couldn't find them."

"Didn't you hide things there too?" Qin Jianyuan didn't find it strange at all.

True, third or fourth-grade children don't have a very strong sense of shame regarding certain things.

Lin Xiangjun remembered when she was in elementary school; in the third or fourth grade before they gained much sense, there was a student who stood at the door every day and kicked everyone in their class in the butt one by one.

No one thought it was wrong, and no one resisted; everyone just lined up obediently to be kicked by that student.

Compared to that, there was nothing to be embarrassed about hiding things in one's crotch.

But...

"How did you know I hid things?"

Qin Jianyuan had already pulled out all his limbs and placed them in a pile.

"That's because you're in the instance. As long as you're in this instance, your every move will be detected by the Instance Master, unless you have a shielding item."

Lin Xiangjun didn't have a shielding item.

None of the 123 items the paper figure brought back had a shielding function.

She had found a few more items here and there later, but none of them had a shielding function either.

But this wasn't very important.

He's the Instance Master, so he's definitely an eerie being; there's already a biological barrier between them and humans.

So what if an eerie being sees? Would you be mortified to death if your dog saw you changing clothes? Impossible.

While they were talking, Wang Min had already helped Aunt Wang down.

Aunt Wang was in a very bad state. Her steps were faltering, her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked panicked, clutching her ears tightly as if she had heard something.

She and Aunt Wang were the only ones left alive in the instance.

Lin Xiangjun sighed and reached out to piece the limbs together, forming a complete corpse according to human anatomy.

When she picked up an arm, the system notification finally sounded.

"Congratulations to the player for finding the body fragments of [Me]. The instance clear conditions have been met. Do you wish to submit the quest?"

Lin Xiangjun chose [No] without hesitation.

She wanted to see if she could piece the entire corpse together to claim an extra reward.

Although Lin Xiangjun wasn't sure if the limbs could be spliced together, the system quest still showed as completed after she refused to submit it, meaning she could leave the instance at any time.

With a safety net, she wouldn't lose anything by trying.

When she brought the severed surface of the arm close to the torso, some red thread-like substance suddenly grew between the two halves of the arm. The red threads twisted and tightened, slowly shortening the distance between the arm and the body until they were finally pieced together.

Lin Xiangjun looked curiously at the original severance point; there was only a thin red line there, which was completely invisible from a distance.

Lin Xiangjun followed suit, reattaching the arms, legs, and head to the body.

"Seamless repair," Lin Xiangjun marveled. "Even the marks from mending holes in my clothes aren't this invisible."

"It's the first time I've known this too." Qin Jianyuan squatted down, hugging his knees as he leaned in to look at his own corpse.

"At least, has no one ever pieced it together before?"

Qin Jianyuan shook his head.

Lin Xiangjun originally thought it was because there hadn't been many player rounds since the instance started and no one had found all the corpse fragments, which is why Qin Jianyuan hadn't seen it. To her surprise, Qin Jianyuan said:

"There were people before who found all my body parts like you did, and some even suggested trying to piece them together, but in the end, they didn't try."
