Chapter 92 The Singer, Oh, Singer 25
The wish she had pined for while alive hadn't been fulfilled, but now that she was dead, it had come true!
The problem was that the current boss wasn't like the previous idiot boss who didn't understand anything and loved to nitpick. The current boss had a good personality, a good temper, and was generous; as long as the assigned task was completed, he didn't care how much money you spent or what methods you used.
She really couldn't bear to say such nasty things to such a good boss, at least not for the moment.
After mentally preparing herself and telling herself it was all to complete the mission, Zhang Minxian finally took a deep breath.
"Then I'm going to say it... Miss Lin, what are you doing?"
Lin Xiangjun yanked the window glass off, then moved to remove the screen. Hearing Zhang Minxian, she didn't even look up: "Taking off the window. In a while, the Songstress is going to throw you out of this window. If the window is closed, wouldn't it smash the glass? That would make a huge racket, and since we live close to the Old Lady, if she heard it, she'd definitely come to ask about it. How could she not charge me fifty for these two panes of glass... Do you think 8097 and the others have paid for the damages yet?"
"They haven't paid yet, but they definitely will have to. The Supermarket Owner mentioned this; someone will come to replace the glass tomorrow or the day after, and once it's done, he'll take the bill and ask them for the money."
"About how much will these two panes of glass cost to replace?"
"Generally speaking, it's twenty-five for a pane of glass and five for the screen."
Lin Xiangjun looked at the two panes of glass and one screen she had removed, feeling quite satisfied.
She had saved another fifty-five, enough to buy a bag of rice.
Ensuring the glass was far enough from the window so it wouldn't be broken, Lin Xiangjun clapped the dust off her hands: "Alright, go ahead."
After this interruption, Zhang Minxian's original guilt and embarrassment were gone. She looked at Lin Xiangjun, took a deep breath, and began to read the messages Lin Xiangjun had sent, one by one.
"You idiot."
After reading it, she paused for three to five seconds, confirmed that nothing had happened, and then continued reading.
"You moron."
"You imbecile."
"You selfish murderer who only cares about yourself and ignores the lives of others."
Just as Zhang Minxian read the last sentence, a black shadow suddenly appeared in the living room.
Lin Xiangjun had been watching closely, so she saw it the very moment the black shadow appeared.
It was indeed Hu Zhengzheng, exactly the same as she had been downstairs—hair combed meticulously, a stiff, severe black dress, a white pearl brooch pinned to her chest, and a pair of white shoes on her feet.
She grabbed Zhang Minxian, who was sitting on the sofa holding her phone. Before she could even react, her body shot out like an arrow released from a bow!
Before Lin Xiangjun could react, the black shadow had already vanished from before her eyes, passing through the empty window frame she had prepared and hitting the ground with a dull "thud."
Perhaps because it wasn't very high off the ground, the sound wasn't very loud.
Lin Xiangjun had been standing by the window; she hurriedly leaned out to look down. Zhang Minxian's body was lying quietly on the ground in a fragmented state that was absolutely impossible for this height. Her eyes were wide open, and her mouth was slightly agape, as if she were still reading the messages.
Because she was a paper figure, even though she had shattered, there was no blood or internal organs spilling out. The edges of her broken body were made of layers of curled paper, looking like the side of a stack of A4 paper.
The phone lay beside her, screen facing down; it was probably ruined.
Lin Xiangjun immediately returned to the coffee table, tore open the paper figurine card, and handed over the underworld currency.
Zhang Minxian's figure reappeared in the living room, just as she had been when first summoned: bloated body, orange hair, and bits of waterweed on her.
Lin Xiangjun handed her the prepared clothes and wig: "Hurry and go change in my bedroom; I'm going down to pick things up now."
Just as Lin Xiangjun had guessed, as soon as she stepped out, the Landlady's door opened. She poked her head out of her room, saw Lin Xiangjun standing there perfectly fine, and for a moment, her expression was one of surprise and confusion, which quickly turned into concern.
"Little Lin, I heard something fall from your apartment just now. Are you alright? Do you need any help?"
Lin Xiangjun looked anxious and annoyed: "Grandma, my phone fell from upstairs just now. I don't know if it's broken, and where would I get the money to fix it now? Sigh, I won't talk anymore, Grandma, I'm going down to pick up my phone."
"Okay, okay, run slowly. The stairs are dark, don't fall."
"Got it, Grandma!"
Lin Xiangjun hurried downstairs and picked up the phone, clothes, wig, and a paper figurine card that had been torn in half.
Obviously, once a paper figure lost its soul, it would revert back to a used paper figurine card and could not be used again.
After putting away everything except the phone, she heard footsteps behind her. Someone was rushing over from Building 39. The footsteps weren't heavy but were a bit dragging; it must be that Sycophant.
Lin Xiangjun knew that he had been sent by Tiger Wang to see what had happened, but she had no interest in dealing with them right now.
Since she already knew the death rule, they had no use for the time being.
"Hey, hey! Little Lin! Little Lin! Sister Lin! Don't walk so fast! What happened just now? Do you need help? Sister Lin, Sister Lin!"
Lin Xiangjun didn't want to engage with him; she pretended not to hear and turned to run back to the apartment quickly.
Her speed after her physical enhancement was not something that Zhang Qi, a rookie who spent his time sycophantically flattering others, could compare to. By the time Zhang Qi had run two steps forward, Lin Xiangjun's figure was already gone.
By the time he ran to the doorway at noon, he poked his head into the stairwell and looked, but there was no sign of Lin Xiangjun.
"Damn it, what's so great about you? Just because I complimented you a couple of times, you really think you're someone? Pfft, you stupid b*tch."
Zhang Qi cursed a couple of times, but worried about violating the rules, he only said half of his curses. The rest of the words got stuck in his throat, a self-imposed censorship.
After all that effort, running until he was panting and getting nothing out of it, he could only send a long string of messages to Tiger Wang on his phone before walking back in vain.
When Lin Xiangjun returned to the third floor, she was not surprised to see the Old Lady still guarding the door.
The Old Lady's gaze swept over the cracked phone in Lin Xiangjun's hand, her tone sounding like a concerned neighbor: "Everything was fine, how did your phone fall?"
"My cousin just rented a room; she said she wanted to cook with me to save on utilities. She was telling me how close our places were and leaned out the window to point to where her room was. But you know how small our windows are; we accidentally bumped into each other, I lost my grip on the phone, and it just fell."
As she spoke, she regretfully showed the cracked phone to the Old Lady.
"It's smashed like this; I don't know how much it will cost to fix. Forget it, forget it. It's just the screen that's cracked, and it doesn't affect turning it on or anything, so I'll just make do with it for now and deal with it after I get paid."
The Old Lady's gaze lingered on the cracked phone.
Lin Xiangjun and Zhang Minxian's phones were the same model and didn't have phone cases, so just by looking at it, one couldn't tell anything.
