14: Chapter 14 The Martial Arts Competition Begins
Soon, three days passed.
May 5th, the day of the Third Martial Arts High School's senior martial arts competition.
The morning sun bathed the campus. The playground was bustling with people. Over four hundred senior students were lined up neatly, with the head teacher of each class standing at the front of their lines.
In the center of the playground, ten brand-new blood-Qi testers were lined up, gleaming with a metallic luster in the sunlight. These were the latest high-precision testers from the Martial Arts Alliance, capable of accurately measuring a Martial Artist's blood-Qi value with an error margin of less than 0.1 points.
On the rostrum, Principal Wang Yang sat in the center, flanked by several deans and grade level heads. Beside them were a dozen strangers wearing different school uniforms—representatives from First Martial Arts High School and Second Martial Arts High School.
"Look, the First High School uniforms! They actually came!"
"Who is that fatty sitting in the front row? Is he a teacher?"
"Teacher my ass, that's Xie Yunpeng from the senior year of First High School, a descendant of the Xie family, a top-tier family in Jiangbei! It's said his blood-Qi value has already broken through five hundred and fifty. He's a hot favorite for this year's Jiangbei college entrance exam top scholar!"
"Five hundred and fifty? Damn, that's too fierce!"
"See that girl next to him? That's Liu Qingqing from Second High School. I heard her blood-Qi value is also over five hundred and thirty. Not only is she a princess of the Jiangbei Liu family, but she's also so beautiful. She's simply a winner in life!"
"Sigh, comparing people to each other is infuriating. It would be considered the peak if our No. 3 High School could produce someone with four hundred blood-Qi."
The discussions rose and fell, filled with envy, jealousy, and unwillingness.
In the Class 3 team, Han Ming stood lazily, his gaze crossing the crowd and landing on a corner at the back of the line.
That was Lin Fan's position.
Wearing that washed-out school uniform, he stood quietly at the very back of the line, completely inconspicuous.
But Han Ming could feel it; this guy was exuding a different aura.
That kind of aura was called confidence.
"Is he a Five-Star Martial Disciple now? This guy's cultivation speed is really fast!"
Han Ming curled his lips, thinking of the constant returns from the System over the past few days, and his heart blossomed with joy.
Of course, he hadn't been idle these past three days either.
Thinking of this, a System panel that only he could see appeared in front of Han Ming:
[Host: Han Ming]
[Blood-Qi Value: 897 points]
[Realm: Eight-Star Martial Apprentice]
That's right, at this moment, Han Ming had already broken through to an Eight-Star Martial Apprentice.
In just three days, breaking through from a Two-Star Martial Apprentice to an Eight-Star Martial Apprentice, almost breaking through to Nine-Star—if he said it out loud, he didn't know how many people's jaws would drop.
Aside from the four hundred plus blood-Qi points fed back from Lin Fan, his own cultivation speed wasn't slow either.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." Han Ming smacked his lips happily. This feeling of lying down and getting stronger was just too great.
On the rostrum, Wang Yang stood up and walked to the microphone.
"Students!"
The whole field went quiet instantly.
"Today is the last competition before the martial arts college entrance exam, and it is also the moment to test the results of your three years of Cultivate!"
Wang Yang's voice spread across the field through the loudspeaker.
"This competition is divided into two parts: the blood-Qi value test and the combat strength test! The blood-Qi value test accounts for sixty percent of the weight, and the combat strength test accounts for forty percent. The final ranking will be determined by a comprehensive assessment!"
"Medicinal Pill rewards will be given on the spot to the top ten!"
"In addition!"
Wang Yang paused, his gaze sweeping across the field as he continued:
"Representatives from First and Second Martial Arts High Schools are also here to observe today! I hope you will show your best state and let the students from other schools see that our No. 3 High School students are not inferior!"
As soon as he finished speaking, warm applause and cheers erupted on the playground.
"Now, I announce, the blood-Qi value test officially begins!"
The head teachers of each class began to organize the students to step forward for testing in order.
The testing proceeded quickly.
"Class 8, Grade 3, Zhang Lei, blood-Qi value one hundred and twenty-three!"
"Class 8, Grade 3, Li Na, blood-Qi value one hundred and seventy-five!"
"Class 7, Grade 3, Wang Qiang, blood-Qi value ninety-two!"
One student after another went up, most of their blood-Qi values were just over one hundred, and occasionally there were quite a few ordinary people who didn't even reach one hundred.
This made the representatives from First and Second Martial Arts High Schools sitting above shake their heads secretly, whispering and discussing, full of contempt for Third Martial Arts High School.
This made Principal Wang and the other school leaders look ugly.
"Class 5, Grade 3, Li Xiaojun, blood-Qi value eighty-seven!"
Another one who didn't break one hundred.
On the rostrum, the Wang-surnamed dean leading the First High School group picked up his teacup, blew on it gently, and said to the Dean Zhang of Second High School beside him with a leisurely smile:
"Old Zhang, it seems Third High School is destined to be at the bottom this year. We've tested nearly half, and not a single one over three hundred?"
Dean Zhang of Second High School smiled reservedly: "Normal. After all, it's Third High School. We came to observe mainly to let our own students see a negative example and get motivated."
The voice wasn't loud, but it was enough for Wang Yang nearby to hear clearly.
The veins on Wang Yang's hand holding the teacup bulged, but he could only endure it.
There was no way around it; what they said was the truth.
"Class 2, Grade 3, Zhao Feng, blood-Qi value 423!"
Suddenly, a burst of exclamation erupted from the testing platform.
Wang Yang looked up abruptly, his eyes brightening.
Four hundred and twenty-three!
Finally, a decent one!
Zhao Feng walked off the stage with his head held high, his gaze intentionally or unintentionally glancing towards First and Second High Schools, carrying a bit of provocation.
Xie Yunpeng from First High School didn't even lift his eyelids, sneering: "Four hundred and twenty-three is worth cheering for? Third High School really has no one left."
Liu Qingqing beside him covered her mouth and chuckled, saying nothing.
The test continued.
"Class 1, Grade 3, Zhou Hao, blood-Qi value four hundred and ninety-three!"
Bigger cheers erupted.
Four hundred and ninety-three! Only seven points away from five hundred!
Zhou Hao stood in front of the tester, enjoying the exclamations and applause of the whole field, his gaze specifically looking at Xie Yunpeng and Liu Qingqing on the rostrum.
Xie Yunpeng only then lifted his eyelids, swept a faint glance, and then continued to look down at his phone.
Zhou Hao's expression stiffened slightly.
"Class 3, Grade 3, Su Wanning, blood-Qi value three hundred and ninety-six!"
Su Wanning walked off the stage, her expression calm.
This result was within her expectations.
Next, it was another long string of ordinary results.
"Class 4, Grade 3, Liu Yun!"
The girl with a ponytail walked onto the stage, her expression indifferent. She took a deep breath and pressed her hand on the tester.
The numbers jumped: one hundred... two hundred... three hundred... three hundred and fifty... three hundred and eighty...
Finally, it settled at three hundred and eighty-seven.
Applause rang out, and Liu Yun nodded slightly, returning to the team.
"Class 6, Grade 3, Sun Lei!"
A tall and thin boy stepped forward and measured three hundred and forty-two.
"Class 8, Grade 3, Qian Duoduo!"
The fatty who had money at home but average talent stepped forward and measured three hundred and fifty-one.
Several seeded players took turns on stage, and the best were just Zhao Feng's four hundred and twenty-three and Zhou Hao's four hundred and ninety-three. Others mostly hovered in the three hundreds.
On the rostrum, Dean Wang from First High School picked up his teacup again, shook his head and laughed: "Old Zhang, you say this score of three hundred-something, if put in our First High School, could it rank in the top two hundred?"
Dean Zhang from Second High School smiled cooperatively: "Top two hundred? Even top three hundred is doubtful."
Wang Yang's face was livid, but he could only endure it.
The test was nearing its end.
Finally.
"Class 3, Grade 3, Lin Fan!"
As soon as this name came out, a burst of whispering erupted in the crowd.
"Lin Fan? Sigh... another one just making up the numbers!"
"Yeah! I remember his blood-Qi wasn't even one hundred a few days ago."
Lin Fan was known by many students, not because he was a Genius, but because he was often bullied by Han Ming, a famous waste and poor kid.
Lin Fan walked out from the back of the team, his pace steady, his expression indifferent. The washed-out school uniform was particularly conspicuous in the sunlight, but his back was straight.
Walking to the tester, he slowly raised his right hand and pressed it on.
The next second!
The numbers started jumping crazily!
One hundred! Two hundred! Three hundred! Four hundred! Four hundred and fifty! Five hundred! Five hundred and thirty! Five hundred and fifty! Five hundred and eighty!
Finally, the number settled at five hundred and eighty-seven!
The whole field was deathly silent!
The smile on Zhou Hao's face instantly froze.
Zhao Feng stood up abruptly, his pupils shrinking.
Liu Yun covered her mouth, her face full of disbelief.
Su Wanning stood stunned on the spot, her beautiful eyes widened round.
On the rostrum.
"Clatter!"
Wang Yang stood up abruptly, knocking over the teacup beside him, tea spilling all over the table, but he didn't notice at all, staring intently at the glaring number on the tester.
And beside him, the teacup in the hand of Dean Wang from First High School fell to the ground with a "clatter", tea splashing onto his pant leg, but he didn't notice, the whole person "whooshed" up, his eyes bulging as if they were about to fall out.
Dean Zhang from Second High School was the same, his mouth open wide enough to fit an egg, the restraint and mockery on his face vanished completely.
The phone in Xie Yunpeng's hand fell to the ground with a "clatter", he didn't bother to pick it up, staring intently at the boy in the shabby school uniform off the stage, his face full of gravity.
Liu Qingqing covered her mouth, blurting out: "Five... five hundred and eighty-seven?! How is this possible?!"
Five hundred and eighty-seven? How could Third High School have such a Genius?
