125: Chapter 125 The Gene Prototype Goes Out of Control Due to a Typo

Bishop Albert, having just exited the emergency conference hall, could no longer maintain his usual benevolent smile; his expression hovered precariously between "polite" and "wanting to curse."

The two acolytes behind him carried data pads, treading extremely lightly and breathing with caution—anyone familiar with the Bishop knew that when he wore this expression, it usually meant someone was about to be in trouble.

"Contact Holy Brilliance Purity," Albert's voice was unusually calm. "Have them provide me with a complete report on the Primarch behavioral anomalies within thirty minutes. I need to know if it's a 'configuration error' or... 'out of control'."

"Configuration error" and "out of control" might sound like mere machine malfunctions causing chaos, but to Albert, the difference between these two terms was roughly equivalent to "a kitchen fire" versus "a nuclear reactor leak."

If it were a configuration error—like an incorrectly filled attack target list or inverted priorities—then at worst, the programmer deserved to be sacrificed, but the project itself was salvageable. Biological weapons, after all, were just a matter of adjusting parameters.

But if it were "out of control"... then this batch of seventh-generation Progenitors—which cost enough to buy three galaxies and integrated genetic samples from thirty-seven races—would truly have to be treated as non-recyclable waste. After all, no one wanted to raise a bunch of super-maniacs who couldn't distinguish friend from foe and possessed multi-racial innate abilities.

The acolytes accepted the order and left, their footsteps hurried.

Albert walked into his office, sat down on the soft Holy Light wood chair, and tapped his fingers unconsciously on the armrest. Outside the window, the virtual starry sky flowed slowly, projecting real-time orbital images of Planet G-77-3.

Hundreds of transport vessels from various civilizations were hurriedly ascending like a school of frightened fish; those were the teams giving up on the trial and evacuating.

"Quite efficient." The Bishop twitched the corner of his mouth, unsure if it was praise or sarcasm.

The report arrived faster than expected.

Fifteen minutes later, an encrypted file was transmitted to Albert's terminal. The cover bore the lotus emblem of Holy Brilliance Purity, with the label below: "Seventh-Generation Primarch Experiment—Planet G-77-3 Test Field Emergency Self-Inspection Report (Top Secret)."

Albert opened the file and scanned it quickly.

The first few pages contained routine data: 100,001 units deployed, 100% activation rate, action modes confirmed, energy reactions stable in the 4-5 tier range...

Then he turned to the "Behavioral Anomaly Analysis" chapter.

[...System backtracking confirms that the 'attack target priority' parameter in the wake-up command was set abnormally. The currently active parameters are: Attack Mode - All-out Attack; Target Priority Sequence: Zerg (Highest) > Other Non-Human Civilizations > Humans (Lowest)...]

[...This setting was caused by operator ID TD-773 accidentally hitting the directional key while entering parameters. The responsible individual has been suspended pending investigation...]

Seeing this, Albert's tense shoulders relaxed slightly.

Configuration error.

Thank goodness, thank goodness. It was just a programmer's slip of the hand, not a project collapse. Just a matter of changing a parameter... although the price of this slip might be dozens of trial teams.

"Notify all teams continuing the trial," the Bishop said to the secretary waiting outside the door. "A large number of abnormal biological units have appeared on the planet's surface, with a combat power assessment of Tier 4-5. Current analysis shows that these units have the highest attack priority against the Zerg and the lowest against humans. Advise all teams to move toward friendly forces and establish joint defensive lines to support one another."

The secretary recorded this quickly and asked, "Do we need to disclose the source of the abnormal units?"

Albert pondered for a second. "Not for now. Just say... it's an 'extra challenge project' arranged for the trial."

The secretary's mouth twitched, but they bowed their head and agreed: "Yes."

Crisis PR, nothing shameful about that. Packaging an "experimental accident" as "pedagogical innovation" was a traditional skill of the Holy Alliance's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Albert continued flipping through the report, feeling much more relaxed. He even had the leisure to critique Holy Brilliance Purity's data charts—hmm, this energy fluctuation curve was drawn quite beautifully, and the color scheme of that gene expression heatmap was quite tasteful...

Then he turned to the last page.

In the appendix column, there was only one line of small text:

[Note: Experimental subject 'Olivia' (ID S-GO-001) has been activated and released along with this batch. Current status: Awake, activity confirmed. Coordinates: Planet G-77-3, North Latitude...]

Albert stared at that line of text for three seconds. Five seconds. Ten seconds.

The temperature in the office seemed to drop by ten degrees suddenly.

"Ho-ly. Bril-liance. Pu-ri-ty." The Bishop's voice squeezed out from between his teeth, each word sounding like ice shards. "These idiots with brains full of creep—"

The secretary was so frightened that they took half a step back.

"How dare they—" Albert stood up abruptly, slamming the data pad onto the desk with a "crack." "—release Olivia as well?! Is that something you can just throw into a trial field?! That is a 'special specimen' obtained through an interest exchange with the Blazing Dragon Federation that the Papal Hall personally oversaw! It is a milestone of the 'Primarch Project'! It is not cannon fodder for you to test battlefield performance!"

The secretary reminded him in a low voice, "Bishop, at the time, His Majesty the Pope approved the order to 'release all seventh-generation Gene Primordial Bodies'... there was no specific instruction to exclude Miss Olivia..."

"That's because His Majesty is busy with state affairs and didn't have time to review the project list in detail!" Albert's fingers were trembling with rage. "But what is the project lead at Holy Brilliance Purity doing? Where is Olivia's experimental data? Where is her stability report? What is her current psychological age equivalent to in human years? Do they not consider any of these things?!"

He took a deep breath, trying to calm his blood pressure. "Connect me to the general project lead of Holy Brilliance Purity immediately! Now! Right now!"

The secretary scrambled out of the office.

Albert sat back down, rubbing his throbbing temples. He looked at Olivia's coordinates on the terminal—the representative light point was moving slowly, in a direction... that seemed to be toward the nearest human activity area.

"I hope this Queen experimental subject doesn't cause any trouble..." the Bishop muttered to himself. "At least... remember to wear clothes when going out..."

He remembered the holographic image he saw outside Olivia's incubation pod during his last inspection of Holy Brilliance Purity—a silver-haired girl curled up in the nutrient solution, her sleeping face as pure as an angel, with the ethereal projection of elf wings swaying gently behind her.

The accompanying researcher had proudly introduced: "Bishop, this is our most successful fusion specimen. The Zerg's evolutionary potential, human genetic compatibility... a perfect combination, manifesting as completely human-like characteristics!"

Albert had only nodded at the time, saying nothing.

Now he just wanted to travel back in time, grab that researcher by the collar, and roar: "Perfect combination my ass! Couldn't you have brainwashed her before raising her? You didn't brainwash her, and now you've released her for testing—what if she runs away?!"
