Chapter 283: You look mid.
Luckily Lee didn’t turn into a village’s pervert and came to his senses before the young couple began to wake up at the sunrise. He left the barn, his heart pounding heavily full of anxiousness. The seal on his right palm was gone and he had no ways to verify whether he had succeeded.During the following days he hung around, paying attention to the two lovers, but then abruptly left. Dante and the rest were surprised, but the village and its people quickly returned to its regular routine. No one had a clue that the Overlord of Whispers grew annoyed by Lee’s paranoid behavior and ordered him to go to school.
Lee, of course, knew she was right. He had done everything he could and now it was turn for the nature to take its course. That is – if he had been lucky. More importantly, what he was doing was nothing but stalking a potentially pregnant village girl, with romantic thoughts about his own past.
The event fortified his intent to focus on the spatial element first, though. And Lee already knew what skill he was going to research and develop first, no matter the cost.
***
Simone Lamart was shocked to hear Lee was about to visit Myrios. It was a legendary world owned and actively led by the most prominent overlord in existence – Luminarch, the Overlord of Knowledge. Simone didn’t know much about it, except that only the very elites were allowed to visit the place.
He did have the coordinates, though, and so did Lee. In his encyclopedia, Myrios was described as a large, technologically advanced world, with peak cultivators residing there. The climate was supposedly moderate, but there was no information about beasts or plant life.
’I wonder if they have phones and computers ...’ Lee thought, stepping through the rift Simone created, but what he saw didn’t really resemble a particularly advanced world, at least not in the technological sense.
Several clusters of pyramid-style buildings a mile away accentuated the feeling, but it didn’t matter – it was sunny and warm, and the grassy field he arrived at was next to a birch grove that very much resembled a park. Myrios was a perfect world compared to the last few he had been to.
"What’s the reason for your visit?" A deep voice startled Lee, forcing him to immediately change the opinion about the local technology.
There was no other person present – the voice came from an object, a thick disc couple of feet in diameter, floating next to him.
"Hi! I’m looking for Augustus." Lee said, "I have a letter for him."
"A messenger." The voice from the floating disc stated, "I’ll take the message for Overseer Augustus. You can leave afterwards."
Lee looked at the peculiar piece of technology in front of him and said, "I’m sorry, Overlord Seris ordered me to pass it personally. I’m supposed to become a student here."
It took a heartbeat for the disc to process Lee’s words, and it said, "You mean – citizen. Despite the lack of accent, the Unified dialect is not your first language. Follow me to the immigration center."
’Okay, now I know I’m in a modern society.’ Lee inwardly laughed.
He hadn’t gone through passport control in lifetimes and this was a nostalgic change, although he did feel more like a trespasser than a tourist. The floating disc didn’t lead him towards the pyramids, but through the birch grove.
"Please state your name, race, age, gender and the world of origin." The disk ordered.
"Lee. Droskar Dominion. And something tells me you already know the rest." Lee said, "Why are you asking?"
"It’s the regular procedure to create a profile for every citizen of Myrios." The disc replied, "In addition, you’ll be the first citizen representing Overlord of Whispers, and if your words are verified, you’ll be appointed as the prefect of her newfound faction."
"Sounds like a drag." Lee murmured, but then asked, "Are there many factions?"
Unfortunately he got only a formal answer: "You’ll find out more detailed information on Myrios after your citizenship is approved."
"Alright." Lee said, "Then, can you tell me if we have to go far? If yes, we might as well increase our pace."
"Can you? Judging by your black eyes, you haven’t ignited a spark yet. According to the available data commoners are weak with low levels of endurance." The disk replied, and Lee might’ve felt offended if not for the black eyes
part.
From the time he swallowed the water spark, his eyes had turned blue. He wasn’t certain if it was the spark fusion process or the fact that he got rid of the Trexian’s seal, his eyes recovered the original color.
Hearing about it, he would’ve loved to hug the floating disk in delight, but restrained himself, and said, "That didn’t answer my question."
"Droskar Dominion is technologically low developed world. The reaction of a normal person would’ve been to stare at my presence in disbelief." The disc replied.
It didn’t matter if it was operated by someone or the floating computer came to the conclusion itself – apparently it was questioning Lee’s origins. He didn’t care, though. He was representing an overlord, and an elderly lady with a peculiar character at that. If the frying pan didn’t like something, it could bring its objections to her.
"Being a piece of scrap metal you should’ve been amazed by my handsomeness." Lee said, "Instead of speaking nonsense you should’ve recorded my images and taken pictures to learn what a perfect human looks like."
He could swear he heard something clicking inside the floating disk. Fortunately it didn’t break down processing his sarcastic joke.
It said, "Handsome? You look mid. At best."
It’s voice was still plain and dry, and it made the statement as if it was speaking obvious truth. Of course, Lee knew it was right, but the lack of emotions in its voice proved it was actually a piece of technology through and through.
"Alright!" Lee happily said, "You passed the test. Regarding yours – I’ve been to advanced worlds before so your presence was more like a pleasant surprise than a wonder or magic. Now then. Do we increase our pace?"
Lee had no clue if he had insulted the disc or if it was even possible, but it did rush forth, and he followed with a wide grin on his face. This wasn’t like running through Hollowreach or destroyed Earth, but he felt like he was back in Freeda’s farm, having a morning run in Sunwell’s outskirts. After a couple of miles, they reached a wide road and continued along it.
They ran, well – Lee did, the disc floated, till late afternoon. On the way they passed several settlements – villages or towns, Lee wasn’t sure. The only buildings they had were pyramids of different sizes, but what caught Lee’s eye were the different races of people residing there.
They weren’t as diverse as in Ashland, but the regular humans like him were at most a quarter. Most other races had minor peculiarities like pointy ears or different number of fingers, but Lee could swear he noticed few people with tails and even a couple potato-heads. To his great annoyance most were wearing robes, though.
"The Immigration center of the Northwestern district." The floating disc informed when they arrived at a larger pyramid right before the sunset, "If your identity is verified, you’ll be transferred to the appropriate division. Good luck! Remember, the main goal and duty of everyone in Myrios is to advance their knowledge!"
"Thanks!" Lee said, catching his breath, "Hope to see you again!"
"Why?" Lee almost stumbled hearing the dry reply, and could only shrug in return.
"I kind of enjoyed our run." He said, "You’re a pleasant company."
The disc lingered for a moment, but then floated away, back to where they came from. Lee watched it go, shrugged again and walked in through the wide open door at the bottom of the larger pyramid.
