150: Chapter 148 This is Magic

Not long after the anti-riot convoy left, another fleet of military vehicles with camouflage paint quickly drove up to the building.

As soon as the lead car slowed down, Toby pushed the door open and jumped out, striding toward the small building, but he stopped in his tracks an instant later.

He saw the front door hanging precariously from its frame, with wooden splinters scattered messily across the steps and the entryway.

"Damn it!" Toby slammed a fist against the car door. "We're too late!"

Inside the car behind him, Lyon and Clay sat in the back seat, peering out the window.

Since they were still currently "suspects," they had to stay in the car for the time being, so only Ryan in the driver's seat followed him out.

"Where did they take them? What should we do?"

Toby leaned against the car, lost in thought. "Having just had a quarrel with me, the Director will definitely not take them back to MI6."

The places they could stay near London... only the military bases in the suburbs."

"Then we..."

"They won't release them, but we have to try... Let's go!" Toby muttered to himself, then suddenly looked up and spoke.

The two of them got into their respective cars and commanded the convoy to make a U-turn and head toward the suburbs.

...

"This place isn't bad."

Using the Shadow Technique, Zhang Mu poked his head out of the convertible old car and looked down at the ground, at a military base established deep within a forest.

He had followed the convoy all the way here.

After that damn Director got out of the car, he led Rowling across an open area filled with tanks and military vehicles and into a two-story concrete building.

He figured they were going to interrogate them.

After thinking for a moment, Zhang Mu didn't rush to use his ultimate. He parked the car outside the building, put it back into his inventory, and followed them into the building in a relaxed manner.

Unexpectedly, the Director didn't interrogate the two of them, nor did he dare to mistreat them or use extrajudicial punishment.

After all, they were facing legendary "wizards." Even with the confidence provided by modern industry, it would be a lie to say there wasn't a hint of panic and nervousness deep down.

After locking the two ladies in a suite with full living facilities, the Director turned and walked away quickly with his secretary, off to attend to something unknown.

Zhang Mu watched their backs disappear at the stairwell. He didn't follow them but instead walked straight through the door of the room.

"What are they doing?" Melody looked around the room, which was passably comfortable. "They didn't even ask us for information about the wizard."

Do they plan to keep us locked up like this forever?"

Rowling was very calm. She took a bottle of red wine out of the cabinet, picked up two wine glasses, and sat at a round wooden table in the corner to pour the wine.

"Setting traps, probably, around our room."

"Heavens, do they actually intend to capture the magi... your grandfather alive?"

"Possibly." Rowling swirled her glass, staring at the swirling liquid. "Those ambitious types are easy to understand."

The moment they discover any power, their first thought is to take control of it themselves.

Especially when it comes to getting my grandfather, who has lived for hundreds of years—madness is inevitable."

Melody sat opposite her and took a sip of wine. "Will Grandpa come to save us?"

"Hey, Melody, that's my grandfather. You should call him something else!"

"We're best friends. What's yours is mine," she said with a grin.

Rolling her eyes playfully, Rowling said, "I'm wondering in what way Grandpa will rescue us."

"Do you think the traps they've set will work?"

Rowling stood up and walked to the window.

In the open space outside the building, Soldiers were running around, pushing various weapons and what seemed to be detection equipment and instruments, truly busy without pause.

With a slight upward curve of her lips, she said with her back to Melody, "That gentleman's courage comes not only from those things but also from my novel."

He must think that the magic described in the novel is the true extent of a wizard's power.

But he would never imagine that my memory is incomplete; those spells might be a product of combined memories and fantasies."

I can't be sure what kind of power magic actually possesses."

"If that's the case," Melody stood up and walked to the window to stand beside Rowling, smiling. "They're probably in trouble."

"Exactly. Having the audacity to imprison my granddaughter—they will pay the price for it."

A familiar old man's voice sounded from behind, and the two of them hurriedly turned around.

Rowling broke into a smile and jogged forward to take her grandfather's arm. "I guessed you were here all along."

"Of course. Their actions are within my expectations."

"So, Grandpa, what are you going to do?" Rowling tilted her head, looking at his face. "After this, they might keep me under long-term surveillance."

Heavens, I couldn't stand that kind of life."

Dumbledore's snowy white eyebrows twitched slightly. "Do you want to settle in Hogwarts?"

"Can I?" Her eyes lit up.

"No problem, but before that, you won't be able to part with your family." He smiled. "When you are truly certain you want to settle in Hogwarts, I will personally prepare a room for you."

As for right now, let's settle this little trouble first."

"Mr. Wizard." Finally getting a chance to interject, Melody spoke up quickly. "Are you going to cast magic?"

Could you give me a front-row seat to watch?"

"Hmm..." Dumbledore stroked his white beard. "You can see it clearly from here."

With that, the old man abruptly disappeared.

After a moment of daze, they hurried back to the window, their eyes scanning everywhere for the magic that was about to appear.

Meanwhile, Zhang Mu downed several bottles of magic potion and spirit potion, flew into the sky about two hundred meters above the ground, and arrived at a grassy field about three kilometers outside the military base.

This place was the most suitable; it would allow them to clearly feel the power of the Rock Fall Technique without involving innocent people.

Taking a deep breath, Zhang Mu channeled his magic and activated the Rock Fall Technique.

...

The Director stood in the shade of a tree not far from the two-story building, squinting as he observed the busy Soldiers.

Judging by his expression, he must have been feeling a bit disgruntled.

He hadn't expected the Royal Family to directly hand over command of the Royal Guards to the fat Bureau Chief he had always looked down upon.

Thinking that the other party was likely on their way, he had to find a way to keep the people in his own hands.

But they were the Royal Guards, after all, representing the Queen's face. His own backers probably wouldn't have the nerve to stall for too long.

"Most three days."

Recalling the warning from a certain influential prince on the other end of the phone a few minutes ago, the Director was quite unwilling.

How could three days be enough? If the wizard didn't appear within three days, was he just going to watch the opportunity to extend his lifespan be snatched away by that fat guy who only knew how to slack off?

Yes, when the Director saw that the wizard in the video was basically consistent with the description in Rowling's novel, he immediately thought of the wizard's long lifespan.

Longevity, even immortality—this is the ultimate dream of mankind, and the Director was naturally no exception.

As for the destructive power of magic and such, he didn't really care much about it.

No matter how strong it is, can it be stronger than missiles and other types of weapons?

Shaking his head with a smile, the Director calmed his mind and continued to ponder over the matter of capturing the wizard.

"Director!" The voice of the secretary commanding the Soldiers suddenly came from the side. "Look! What is that?!!!"

Feeling the surrounding light suddenly darken, he instinctively looked back.

High in the sky outside the base, a massive earthy-yellow orb of light lit up, nearly dimming the sunlight.

What was that?

Before his consciousness could react, the orb of light began to change.

The brightness slowly faded, revealing an oval rock of jaw-dropping size.

All the Soldiers instinctively stopped their work and looked up blankly at the rock that blocked out the sun and cast a shadow over the entire military base.

What is this?

A meteor? A meteorite?

I remember meteorites are supposed to fall very fast and be covered in fire, right?

Then is it the end of the world?

But hasn't the rumored 2012 apocalypse already passed many years ago?

The thoughts of the Soldiers and the secretary fell into chaos, not knowing what they were rambling about in their minds.

The Director also wanted to ask these questions, but he didn't. What seemed like an old man's voice began to whisper in his ear.

"This... is the magic you wished to see."
