43: Chapter 43 Receiving the Town Mayor

In the dense forest, Avril and Zhang Mu shuttled through the trees one after the other.

Their whereabouts were already exposed, so the two no longer needed to control their Mental Energy to hide their presence. Therefore, even running at full speed, they felt more relaxed than when they were walking before.

Plus, only needing to follow Avril's instructions to weave left and right to avoid the Thunder Wolves gradually closing in, Zhang Mu even had the leisure to let his mind wander.

Once the Thunder Wolf Leader is dealt with, I must go to the capital as soon as possible to treat my lung cancer; dragging it on all day is not the way to go.

And the Church—I'm not their match for now, but sooner or later, I'll have to settle the score.

Besides continuing to improve my magic strength, I could go abroad and find a way to get some modern firearms. With the inventory, I don't have to worry about transportation problems.

You bastards, I'll make you taste what it means for the times to have changed. As soon as I return to reality, I'm going to get a passport.

Hiss, speaking of reality, I wonder how things are progressing between my senior brother and that girl.

She's a nice girl, and they are a perfect match.

They said they'd treat me to a meal, but there's been no news for days. Could it be they're already burning with passion?

Could it be that this meal and the wedding feast are going to be combined? Wouldn't I be missing out on a meal then?

"Junior."

Avril suddenly stopped, and Zhang Mu reacted in time, forcing himself to a halt.

"What's wrong?"

"We are surrounded." She looked at the "compass" in her hand, her tone grave. "It's very strange. Thunder Wolves are unranked magical beasts, equivalent to a magician apprentice. According to common sense, at most a Third-Order peak leader should be born. Why is... the wolf pack so huge?"

"It's simply... simply like a magical beast tide of a Fourth-Order leader."

Zhang Mu wanted to ask further, but didn't open his mouth.

The dark bushes not far away trembled; the Thunder Wolves were coming.

"Senior, let's break out from the weakest point of the encirclement."

"Okay."

Avril put away the "compass" and gripped her staff tightly.

Soon, a silver-white Thunder Wolf rushed out of the bushes, its ferocious fangs lunging straight at the two.

They scattered a few steps to the left and right. Zhang Mu raised his hand, and an Ice Cone pierced the Thunder Wolf's forehead. In this brief moment, over thirty Thunder Wolves had already closed in.

"Break out from the right side; the magic reaction is lowest here."

Nodding to show he understood, Zhang Mu focused all his attention, and magic power poured into the crystal at the top of his staff like a bursting flood.

Silently, ten pure white fireballs appeared, and under the control of his Mental Energy, they exploded outwards in all directions.

The fireballs flew very fast, but the Thunder Wolves' reaction speed was not slow either, and they all jumped to the side.

Zhang Mu had expected this. He retracted his Mental Energy, and the missed fireballs flashed and exploded, lighting up this patch of forest like daytime.

"Wuu..."

Over twenty Thunder Wolves were blown away. The ones nearby stopped moving immediately, while those further away mostly had broken legs and arms, lying on their sides on the ground, wailing.

At the same time, the remaining dozen or so Thunder Wolves pounced.

Not paying attention to their attacks, Zhang Mu focused on frantically operating his Meditation Method to recover magic power; he was not alone.

Avril lifted her staff, and fourteen Ice Cones formed instantly, stabbing out in a fan shape, precisely piercing the Thunder Wolves' heads.

Jumping into the air, the Thunder Wolves, unable to change direction, had nowhere to hide and crashed to the ground, screaming.

Solving the battle in a few seconds, the two did not relax in the slightest. Another thirty-plus Thunder Wolves rushed to within a few dozen meters in front of them, and the howling of wolves approaching from the distance could be heard.

"Here." Avril pulled two bottles of blue potion for rapid magic recovery from the wide sleeves of her robe, handed one to Zhang Mu, pulled the cork off the other, and swallowed it down.

Having also taken the potion, Zhang Mu tossed away the small, translucent round glass bottle and waved his staff.

"Swish—" The sound of an arrow piercing the air made the two, who were preparing to cast magic, stop in surprise.

The leader of the charging Thunder Wolf pack was pinned to the ground by an arrow.

"Saldari, Alice, lure the wolf pack away and take the magical beast tide into the distance." A crisp female voice, like being in the wilderness of early spring, gave people a feeling of leisure and comfort.

In the darkness to the right, two balls of green light flickered. The Thunder Wolves seemed to have been hit by a spell: "You must prioritize attacking enemies with taunt," and rushed crazily toward the green light.

The light source moved into the depths of the darkness, and the sound of the Thunder Wolf pack's charge and the approaching wolf howls slowly moved away.

"The two of you, I am Frederica. Having received the request for help from Kas Town, I rushed over to provide some help within my power."

Behind her were a man and a woman, the woman in front, walking closer while greeting them.

Zhang Mu's gaze was drawn to the woman, not by her beautiful appearance, but by those pointed ears.

Frederica held a pitch-black iron recurve bow in her hand and wore armor that covered her from her collarbone to her knees. She was as tall as Avril, but much slimmer, and there was quite a difference in the scale of her chest.

Her emerald green hair behind her swayed gently as she walked.

A fantasy race—an Elf?

After all, it was a fantasy race he had never seen before. Zhang Mu wanted to take another look at that pair of snow-white ear tips that were clearly not human.

"Hmph, human." The man beside her stepped forward to block his view, shouting in a low voice.

This action made Zhang Mu realize that his behavior was somewhat impolite, and he smiled apologetically: "Sorry, because I've never seen an Elf before."

Then... he stared at the male Elf's ear tips.

As mentioned, Zhang Mu wasn't interested in the female Elf's figure or appearance, but was curious about the pointed Elf ears he had only seen in movies and comics.

To him, looking at either of them was the same.

It's impolite to look at the woman, and you aren't happy about it either, so it should be fine if I look at you, right?

We are both men, after all.

Thinking this, Zhang Mu's gaze became even more brazen.

The male Elf's expression changed. Before leaving the forest, the elder had warned him that humans, whose very blood was dirty, were not only greedy but also had perverted habits.

The Great Elder really didn't lie to me!

He forced himself to stare for a while, but with various images flying through his mind, he couldn't hold on and retreated behind Frederica.

Zhang Mu was stunned. Not letting me look? Then I'll look at her?

To avoid displeasing others, he turned slightly, changing his gaze into a peripheral scan.

The male Elf was very angry and stepped forward to block him.

Zhang Mu was overjoyed. He couldn't see clearly with his peripheral vision; it was still clearer looking at him.

In a few seconds, the male Elf retreated in defeat, only to instantly discover Zhang Mu glancing at Frederica again, so he stepped up again!

Just like that, he was like a character in a movie Zhang Mu had once watched—hey, I'm in, hey, I'm out again.

Jumping back and forth in front of and behind Frederica.

"Junior."

"Vag."

The farce came to a temporary end after they spoke up.

Vag was quite indignant and muttered to Frederica in a low voice: "Your Highness, we shouldn't have come, and we shouldn't have come into close contact with humans. Their very blood is turbid and dir..."

"Shut up." Frederica still had a smile as gentle as a spring breeze, and her tone was soft and warm, but Vag, like a barking dog that had been struck with a stick, obediently retreated and fell silent.

On this side, Avril was also admonishing Zhang Mu.

"Junior, Elves rarely appear in human territory. They especially hate being stared at by humans, so don't be rude."

"I know." Zhang Mu nodded with a sincere attitude of admitting his mistake, but the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.

You brain-dead thing, did you really think I didn't hear that "human" filled with disdain just now?

If you have the guts, do it again?

Let's see how much energy you have to keep jumping around.

"Sorry, miss, my junior has never seen an Elf before, please understand."

"It's fine." Frederica's face, with its soft curves, seemed to always wear a smile. "This gentleman's gaze has no malice or filth. The two of you are also here to deal with the magical beast tide, right? Let's not waste time, let's go."

This was exactly what they wanted, so the four of them set off immediately, heading deep into the forest together.

With the help of Frederica's companions, the wolf pack was lured into the distance, so there was no need to worry for the time being, and the four chatted as they walked.

It was mainly Avril communicating with her.

Through their conversation, they learned that the mayor had used Kas Town's sound-transmitting crystal to post a mission to the Adventurer Group guild in Bala City.

Many Adventurer Groups saw it, but disliked the low reward and didn't take it. In the end, only their Elf Adventurer Group, who didn't care about the reward, rushed over.

"Ms. Avril, this magical beast tide is a bit strange. It is clearly just a Thunder Wolf Leader, but this number... is almost comparable to a Fourth-Order leader's magical beast tide."

"Yes, I noticed that too. We must be careful when hunting the leader later."

"Also." Avril asked with some curiosity, "Elves rarely walk out of the forest, and Lake Kingdom is not close to your territory. Why did you come here?"

"My clansmen and I were traveling across the continent. A few days ago, we heard that a labyrinth was about to open in Bala City, so we rushed over, wanting to try our luck."

"Then, won't coming to Kas Town delay your plans?"

"Please rest assured, the labyrinth opening is still some days away, and Kas Town is only a day's journey from Bala City, so we will make it back in time."

The atmosphere of the conversation between the woman and the female Elf was very peaceful.

The man and the male Elf, walking a few steps behind, were silent.

The atmosphere was heavy, and Vag felt as if his whole body was being tickled by feathers.

They had been moving for more than ten minutes, and Zhang Mu had been staring at his ear tips with a strange look.

This caused all sorts of images to appear one after another in Vag's mind.

This disgusting bastard human, Vag's five fingers gripping his bow clicked and creaked.

Perhaps sensing the abnormality behind her, Avril turned her head to glance at Zhang Mu and said helplessly: "Junior."

"Oh, coming."

Zhang Mu, who never held a grudge overnight if he could get even, felt it was about enough, and happily walked a few quick steps to walk side-by-side with Avril.

They continued into the depths of the forest for half an hour.

The lush trees suddenly disappeared, opening up into a vast clearing.

Without the obstruction of leaves and branches, the moonlight poured down.

The four of them hid behind different trees, peeking out.

In the center of the clearing, the Thunder Wolf Leader, like a small mountain with silver-white fur, had its head tucked under its belly, coiled on the ground.
