87: Chapter 87 Sneak Attack
Judging by Fritz's bewildered expression, his brain clearly hadn't registered where Zhang Mu got the confidence to mock him.
To this, Zhang Mu had no intention of enlightening him, pulling the trigger with his index finger.
The beast, born from modern industrial technology, let out a roar representing slaughter in the Other World.
The dense gunfire echoing in the spacious hall could no longer be counted by ear, and the muzzle flash turned into a constant beam of light.
Fritz's Magic Shield was submerged by bullets, the entire thing fluctuating violently.
Zhang Mu, pressing down on the trigger, had no intention of stopping in the slightest; disregarding the red-hot gun barrel, he crazily poured bullets forward.
Dante, watching the tornado dissipate automatically in front of Fritz, felt his heart beating wildly and uncontrollably.
He understood why the nearly completed magic was forced to stop—the reason was simple: insufficient mana.
Yet Fritz had clearly only cast one high-level magic spell; he should have had plenty of mana remaining.
So, where did the mana go?
Naturally, it went to the Magic Shield.
Dante's eyelids twitched incessantly. He was a High-level Knight, the same rank as Fritz, but not his match.
Because his strongest attack couldn't break through the other's Magic Shield, yet the other's strongest attack could tear through his own sturdy armor and extraordinary, robust physique.
He didn't recognize the strange magic item the little guy brought out.
This was normal; so many labyrinths opened on the Saul Continent every year, so it was reasonable for some unfamiliar magic items to appear.
But the power of this magic item was strong enough to make Dante fearful.
The defensive power of his own physique couldn't compare to Fritz's Magic Shield.
Fritz, who was currently enduring the dense attack launched by the magic item, was even forced to abort his nearly formed magic in order to maintain the Magic Shield.
Even so, the fluctuations of the translucent Magic Shield continued to grow, looking like it was on the verge of collapse.
Dante unconsciously stepped back until he bumped into the tribesmen behind him, stopping only when there was nowhere left to retreat.
"If he can kill Fritz, he can kill me. That bastard Haige... he really was deceiving me!"
The Adventurers on the side were equally stunned.
It was clearly an attack with not a shred of mana fluctuation, yet from the roar coming from the barrel, they heard the tone of slaughter, and from the fire trail dragged by the bullets in the air, they saw the color of death.
Trembling.
It wasn't them enduring the attack, yet the Adventurers, as bystanders, were trembling all over.
They were afraid, they were afraid of this terrifying power displayed by a weapon they had never seen before, yet knew deeply could reap their lives.
"I'd die, right... I'd definitely die if I took one hit, right?"
"Hey, hey..." An Adventurer used all his strength to lift his arm and nudged his stunned companion beside him with his elbow. "What, what, what exactly is this?"
"I... don't know." The companion's lips moved for a long time before replying.
They stopped talking, their gazes fixed on the Magic Shield that seemed to be shaken violently by someone; it was about to break.
They didn't wait long; only three seconds passed.
"Crack—"
The Magic Shield enveloping Fritz's body emitted a crisp shattering sound.
His expression changed drastically, and he seemed to have only just reacted to dodge, lifting his foot to dash to the side.
Too late.
From the moment he concluded that the "magic item" in Zhang Mu's hand couldn't break his Magic Shield and chose to stand still to cast magic, his death was already destined.
The gatling's barrel had only been spinning for half a minute, and that shocking number of bullets had already drained most of his mana before he thought to dodge.
One wrong step, and he stepped into the abyss.
Having lost the boost of mana and Mental Energy to his physique, his movements, which were far superior to an ordinary person's but couldn't be called swift among Professionals, had no chance of dodging the gatling's strafing.
Zhang Mu moved his hands slightly, and the muzzle swept to the left.
The 13mm bullets began to bombard Fritz, who had no Magic Shield protection.
It was like smashing a piece of soft, tender tofu with a rock; irregular chunks of tofu splattered from the center of the impact in all directions, accompanied by a mist of blood.
Zhang Mu, who had never truly seen a bullet hit a human body, realized now that it wasn't at all like what was shown on TV, where no matter how big the bullet, it just punched a barely visible hole.
Instead... wherever it hit, that part was just gone.
Three seconds later, the last bullet of the belt shot out from the muzzle. Zhang Mu released the trigger, and the spinning barrel of the gatling slowly came to a stop.
Dante, the tribesmen behind him, and the Adventurer Groups pressed against the wall finally understood at this moment why Zhang Mu said, "I hope I can pick up some slightly larger chunks," before activating the killing weapon.
They scanned the empty space where Fritz had just been standing.
Chunks?
There was only a layer of bright red minced meat covering the ground.
"Oh, my." Zhang Mu stood up, stepped on the handle of the gatling with one foot, and wiped the sweat from his forehead steamed out by the red-hot barrel. "Satisfying."
Wiping away the sweat, he looked around.
The Adventurer Groups caught by his gaze shrank back desperately, as if they were being targeted by the muzzle of the gatling.
Unfortunately, there was a wall behind them, so they couldn't shrink back; they just stood on tiptoes, as if this futile action could bring them a sense of security.
Not paying attention to the frightened Adventurers, Zhang Mu's gaze fell on Dante: "This gentleman, are you the patriarch of the Marvin Magic Family?"
"Yes." Dante steadied his mindset and responded with a somewhat forced smile.
"I received an interesting piece of news; perhaps you would be interested as well."
"Is, is that so?"
"I heard that you and Haige conducted an exchange of benefits regarding me."
There's a traitor in the clan!
Dante's heart tightened violently, though his expression didn't change much: "Sir, the Marvin Magic Family has no intention of forming a feud with you."
"I very firmly refused Haige's proposal."
In his eyes, Zhang Mu was a "lowly commoner" who couldn't sense mana fluctuations and hadn't used any magic during the entire battle just now.
But at this moment, admitting defeat to a "lowly commoner" he despised the most, his attitude was not the least bit awkward; it was as smooth as a gear set that had just been lubricated.
His right foot, which was stepping on the gatling's stock, twitched as Zhang Mu pondered for a moment: "Haige drove the residents of Kas Town out of the city, is that so?"
"According to the intelligence I've received, that's correct." Dante nodded obediently.
Fine then.
Zhang Mu confirmed the news, thinking that since this guy hadn't tried to sneak attack during the long fight just now, the statement "no intention of forming a feud with you" could be considered credible.
He bent down, pretending to stuff the gatling into a storage bag, but actually putting it into his inventory, and turned to walk toward the entrance.
"Whoosh—"
Just as he turned around, a sound of piercing through the air suddenly rang out from behind, followed by pain in his back. Zhang Mu looked down; a sharp, blood-stained spear tip was protruding from his chest.
Zhang Mu sighed. That's the one bad thing about the resurrection function; subconsciously knowing I can't die, I have almost no vigilance when acting alone.
Without rushing to pull the spear out, he took two smoke bombs out of his storage bag and threw them at his feet.
Thick smoke submerged him in an instant.
"Hahaha..." Having suddenly thrown his spear and accurately hit Zhang Mu in the back, piercing through him, Dante finally took off his hypocritical mask and laughed wildly.
"Young little guy, this is the advice Mr. Dante teaches you with practical action: never turn your back to a strange Professional!"
"It's a pity, you won't have the chance to put it into practice."
Dante's smile slowly faded as he scanned the hall; the Adventurers were still standing on tiptoes with their backs against the wall.
Wanting to safely swallow that powerful magic item...
Well, the little guy and Fritz died together; to ensure this is a fact, they must die.
"Kill them."
The tribesmen did not hesitate at all regarding the patriarch's order. The tribesmen of the Knight profession waved their longswords or spears, dispersed in all directions, and surrounded the Adventurers by the wall.
The mages behind lined up, raised their staffs, and prepared to begin the slaughter.
"Do you still want the spear?"
Who is speaking?
Stunned for a moment, Dante turned around in disbelief. Zhang Mu's thin figure slowly walked out of the thick smoke, holding his steel spear in his hand.
Inserting the spear tip into the ground, Zhang Mu asked again: "Do you still want the spear?"
