123: The confrontation with the Xu family
Time passed quickly, and the next day arrived. Qiao Yu, Luo Feng, Luo Hua, and Wei Wen were already prepared at the hotel, waiting for Xu Xin to arrive.
"Xu Xin said she'll be here soon. Is everyone ready?"
Luo Feng looked at the notification on his phone and reminded the others.
"Don't worry, Brother, everything's been ready for a long time. We're just waiting for my sister-in-law to arrive. The moment she opens the door, we can set off the fireworks."
Luo Hua nodded with a smile and turned to give instructions to the staff.
Wei Wen watched happily from the side and said in a mock-blaming tone,
"Luo Feng, you really are something. You only told me when you were about to propose. That's not what brothers do!"
Luo Feng scratched his head and glanced at Qiao Yu, thinking that he had been pushed too hard. He smiled and said,
"Wei Wen, my bad, my bad. There were just some situations I didn't anticipate myself."
Qiao Yu just crossed his arms in front of him and nodded with satisfaction.
As time passed, about ten minutes later, a knock sounded at the door.
Surrounded by her best friends and other relatives, Xu Xin walked into the presidential suite.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
As the electric fireworks exploded, the room was instantly filled with various brilliant colors.
Greeting Xu Xin was Luo Feng on one knee, holding a ring box out toward her.
"Woo!"
The surrounding friends began to hoot, shout, and applaud.
Amidst Xu Xin's sweet smile, Luo Feng repeated his proposal vow.
"Xu Xin, from the first moment I saw you, I fell in love with you. But at that time, I was just an ordinary member of the masses, with nothing special about me and no ability to give you a good life. I felt I wasn't good enough for you. Even though I didn't know your identity then, I still wanted to give you the best life I possibly could."
"When I became a Martial Artist, I met you again. Only then did I have the courage to speak to you and interact with you. But my teammates back then let me know that you were actually the young lady of the Xu Family, a Great Consortium. Upon hearing that news, I began to feel unworthy of you again, but I didn't lose heart. I worked even harder to push myself further and further along the path of a Martial Artist."
"Even though your brother, Xu Gang, mocked and ridiculed me in an attempt to make me back down, my heart did not grow cold. I vowed to climb higher and make the Xu Family acknowledge the relationship between us openly and honorably."
"Even though, in the end, it was the confidence Qiao Yu gave me that allowed me to dare to propose to you now, before I have sufficient strength."
"Xu Xin, will you marry me?"
After a heartfelt confession, Luo Feng spoke the final, most important sentence.
Everyone present applauded.
"I do!"
Xu Xin stepped forward shyly and extended her hand to Luo Feng.
Luo Feng carefully took Xu Xin's hand and placed the diamond ring, a symbol of eternity, on her middle finger, bringing the proposal ceremony to a close.
The party began immediately after. Everyone played various games in the presidential suite, and the hotel butler delivered a wide variety of delicious dishes one by one.
Qiao Yu watched Luo Feng, Wei Wen, and the others playing around and gave a heartfelt smile.
Qiao Yu suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw a young man in a hotel uniform.
"Hello, sir. Are you Mr. Qiao Yu?"
The staff member bowed and asked respectfully.
Qiao Yu nodded, feeling puzzled.
"I am."
The staff member explained.
"Mr. Qiao Yu, I am the hotel manager. There are several Martial Artists from the Dojo outside who claim to be your friends. They asked me to pass on a message inviting you outside for a chat."
Qiao Yu raised an eyebrow. His friends? Weren't all his friends already here? Could it be people from the organization? Did they say that for the sake of secrecy?
Seeing the staff member, who claimed to be the manager, respectfully leading the way, Qiao Yu was curious but didn't think too much of it. He said goodbye to Luo Feng and the others and followed the manager out.
Xu Xin caught a glimpse of Qiao Yu being led away. She pursed her lips and sighed helplessly in her heart, but she could only pretend nothing was happening and continue playing with her friends.
Qiao Yu followed the manager to a private room in the corner of this floor. The staff member stopped and bowed to Qiao Yu, explaining,
"Mr. Qiao Yu, your friends are inside the suite. I will take my leave now."
Qiao Yu nodded. He watched as the staff member walked slowly to the corner of the corridor and disappeared, then turned his attention back.
With a curious mind, Qiao Yu knocked on the door.
He heard a voice come from inside.
"Come in!"
Qiao Yu pushed open the door. What met his eyes was Xu Xin's brother, Xu Gang, along with several middle-aged couples gathered around the sofa in the center of the room. In the middle of the sofa sat a sturdy old man leaning on a simple, ancient wooden cane, looking quite majestic.
Everyone in the room turned in unison to look at Qiao Yu.
"Uh, did I walk into the wrong room?"
Seeing that he didn't recognize anyone present, Qiao Yu scratched his head awkwardly.
"You are Qiao Yu, War God Qiao, right?"
Old Master Xu looked kind and didn't put on any airs.
"I am Qiao Yu. And this elder is...?"
Qiao Yu nodded and asked.
"Haha, I am Xu Xin's grandfather. Others call me Old Master Xu."
Old Master Xu simply explained his identity without revealing much else.
Qiao Yu could sense more than twenty Martial Artists hidden in the shadows nearby. Based on the vigor of their blood, he could tell that most of them were Warlord-level Martial Artists.
'More than twenty Warlord-level Martial Artists used as bodyguards? The Xu Family really has deep pockets.'
Qiao Yu thought to himself secretly.
"I wonder why Old Master Xu has called for me? Is there something you wish to discuss?"
The only thing Qiao Yu could think of was something related to Xu Xin.
Moreover, seeing Xu Gang remain silent with a look of ill intent deep in his eyes, it likely wasn't anything good.
However, he had already anticipated such a situation. His interference in the marriage between Luo Feng and Xu Xin was, for the Xu Family, no different from directly affecting their decision-making power. It was perfectly normal for them to have objections.
But Qiao Yu clearly remembered Xu Gang as someone who knew when to yield and when to stand tall. Why was he showing such a hostile gaze at this moment?
Could it be that because of his interference, some unnecessary trouble had arisen?
"A guest is a guest. War God Qiao, why not come in and have a seat? There's no need to be so polite and stand there."
"Or is it that War God Qiao finds this old man's presence too overbearing, making you afraid to speak with me face to face?"
Old Master Xu's words were laced with thorns; though the sentences were full of courtesy, they made one feel somewhat uncomfortable.
