44: Research Report

The Fire Hammer Squad members watched Luo Feng, like a nimble ape, leap and maneuver a few times to catch up to the rapidly fleeing Silver Moon Fierce Wolf.

In between, two Tiger Mastiffs tried to ambush Luo Feng, but Luo Feng pierced through their heads with two swift movements, even faster than Yondu's whistle arrow.

The nearly three-meter-tall Silver Moon Fierce Wolf was intercepted by Luo Feng.

One man and one wolf faced each other from a distance.

"Howl!"

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf let out a intimidating roar, and seeing that the man in front of it did not retreat, its heart was filled with extreme vigilance.

Luo Feng advanced slowly, step by step, while the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf, with a single flash, transformed into a silver streaking light, moving at near-supersonic speed, charging towards Luo Feng.

Luo Feng's psychokinetic energy was attached to his alloy combat boots, allowing him to dodge rapidly. At the same time, six flying daggers shot out from his pant legs, their whistling through the air making one's eardrums itch.

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf tried to resist, but its strength was greatly reduced due to its severe injuries. Even though it knocked down two flying daggers, the remaining four still pierced into its abdomen, instantly shredding the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf's internal organs.

"Bang!"

The massive wolf's body crashed heavily to the ground, emitting a dull thud.

The eyes of this wolf royalty showed a struggle, its life flashing before its eyes, eventually revealing a hint of relief.

Luo Feng stood beside the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf's corpse and let out a long sigh of relief. He admitted there was an element of gambling, and he didn't expect to actually win.

To prevent being discovered by other squads in the city, Luo Feng had to dissect it first. He took a flying dagger in his hand and tried to cut open the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf's fur, but no matter how hard he tried, with Luo Feng's current strength, which was close to Advanced Warrior Level, he still couldn't cut it open.

Helpless, Luo Feng could only use his psychokinetic energy to control the flying dagger and complete the dissection of the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf.

An expensive fur, a pair of sharp claws, a wolf skull, and its two eyeballs.

Luo Feng found a tracking device on the fur. After removing it, he quickly fled the area and rejoined the Fire Hammer Squad.

A squad capable of hunting this peak-state Beast General Level Silver Moon Fierce Wolf must at least be War God Level. He couldn't afford to provoke them now; retreating was the best strategy.

"Luo Feng is back."

The Fire Hammer Squad members saw Luo Feng returning from a distance through their binoculars, turning into the residential area's emergency staircase to reach the rooftop.

"Luo Feng, are you not hurt?"

Qiao Yu went up to him, saw that Luo Feng's combat suit had no signs of damage, and nodded.

"Hmm, not bad. Did you hunt that Silver Moon Fierce Wolf?"

Gao Feng cast a curious glance.

Chen Gu, the Wei Brothers, and Zhang Ke all gathered around Luo Feng, asking questions excitedly.

"His backpack is so bulging, Luo Feng must have succeeded," Chen Gu said, patting Luo Feng's combat backpack with a laugh.

"It's because you're a sniper, Brother Chen, your eyes are like a ruler."

"This time it was also luck. This Silver Moon Fierce Wolf was terrifyingly strong in both strength and speed, its speed even reaching supersonic levels. If it hadn't been severely injured, and if I weren't a Psycher Master, who would have won is still unknown."

Luo Feng laughed heartily and took off his combat backpack.

"Oh no, Luo Feng, quickly check if there are any signals left by other squads on the spoils! A squad capable of hunting a Silver Moon Fierce Wolf is not someone we can deal with; they're very likely War God Level martial artists!" Gao Feng slapped his forehead, speaking anxiously.

"Don't worry, Captain. Although this is my first mission, I'm not so ignorant of common sense. The fur with the tracking device has already been cut off and discarded by me," Luo Feng said, grinning and patting his backpack.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, fearing that Luo Feng might be careless at a crucial moment.

"This mission has been going on for several days. We've had our training, we've hunted what needed to be hunted, and we've experienced everything, good and bad. Our supplies are almost depleted, so it's time to head back."

"Everyone, get some good rest first. We'll return to the supply Base City at dawn tomorrow!"

Gao Feng saw that the Fire Hammer Squad members were all exhausted and spoke.

"Yes, Captain!"

Everyone responded with smiles. Those who needed to stand guard stood guard, and those who needed to rest rested. They still had three days before returning.

---

Hongning Base City, inside a certain research institute.

Hong and Thunder God, along with a group of researchers in lab coats, stood outside an isolation chamber, observing the continuously expanding fungal swarm organisms inside.

"Director-General, after several days of research, we've discovered that this organism is a new type of fungus. It appears to have also been modified by the rr virus, and its genetic chain has evolved, making it more adaptable to the current environment of Earth."

A researcher in a white coat, holding a research report, slowly spoke while pushing up his glasses.

"Does this organism pose a threat to humans?"

Hong frowned. A fungus that could make people self-detonate—if this fungus were to spread to the Base City, humanity might face a second Great Nirvana period.

"Reporting, Director-General, based on the current research progress, we have not yet found this fungus to be aggressive. It seems more like a symbiotic relationship with its host."

The researcher's tone was calm.

"I personally witnessed them causing several members of a Warrior level squad to self-detonate on the spot. How do you explain that?"

The bald monk Thunder God also frowned, his tone filled with doubt.

"Hall Master Lei, referring to the samples you brought back, this fungus indeed does not possess offensive capabilities. They only erode buildings and carrion. Perhaps the self-detonation of the martial artists you witnessed was caused by other reasons..."

"Of course, we will continue to conduct further research, and if there are any new discoveries, we will report them to the Director-General and Hall Master Lei immediately."

The researcher was not swayed in the slightest by Thunder God's doubts, full of confidence in his research.

Thunder God was dissatisfied when the researcher didn't give a definite answer but instead deflected the question.

"Brother Lei, don't rush this matter. It's not too late to discuss it if there are new discoveries later. If you provide new samples in the future, there might be new findings."

Hong knew Thunder God was anxious, but research wasn't something that could be solved in a couple of days, so he could only comfort him.

"Brother Hong, this matter still needs to be taken seriously. Remember when the rr virus first broke out, everyone thought it was just an ordinary virus, but it killed countless humans."

Thunder God did not give up on investigating just because of Hong's words. Instead, he used the previous rr virus case to sound an alarm in Hong's mind.

And hearing Thunder God say this, Hong also became more vigilant.

Although humans and other animals and plants on Earth have all evolved to a higher level, becoming stronger in terms of external survival, not many people pay attention to microscopic matters.

And such a small oversight could lead humanity to another catastrophic disaster.

"I understand. I will have my subordinates take this seriously, and you should also tell the martial artists of the Thunderbolt Martial Arts School to pay more attention..."
