286: Chapter 286 Nurturing the Fairy's Foundation!
The path of Cultivation is perilous and unpredictable; even within a Sect, internal strife and suppression are inevitable.
Ye Chen's temperament was so full of pride...
Thinking of this, Ye Changge felt increasingly uneasy.
He secretly made a decision—
Once this wave of Demonic Path events in the Zhao State passed and the Family's affairs were properly handled, he would personally visit the Jinyang Sect to see his children.
Even if it was just a glance from afar to confirm they were well, it would put this girl Lu Shiqing's mind at ease.
“Husband?” Seeing him lost in thought, Lu Shiqing called out softly.
Ye Changge came back to his senses and smiled:
“It's nothing. I was just thinking about what I should bring for Xiao Chen when I visit him.”
Hearing this, Lu Shiqing immediately perked up and began counting on her fingers:
“Bring him some of the Spirit Fruits he loves, the few Magical Artifacts he usually likes to play with, and...”
As she spoke, her eyes suddenly reddened again:
“But husband, I'm afraid that by then, he won't remember any of this...”
Ye Changge hurriedly said:
“How could he not remember? That child has a great memory. Didn't he still find the Spirit Fruits you hid last time?”
Lu Shiqing thought about it and felt it made sense, so she started smiling again.
Leaning in Ye Changge's arms, she asked softly:
“Husband, do you think... Xiao Chen will miss us while he's in the Sect?”
Ye Changge gently stroked her long hair and said warmly:
“Of course he will.”
“But he's a man; even if he misses us, he won't say it aloud.”
“When he returns after succeeding in his Cultivation, he will surely make us look at him in a new light.”
Hearing this, Lu Shiqing gave a soft “mm,” buried her face in his chest, and stopped speaking.
Ye Changge held her like that, sitting quietly.
Moonlight spilled in through the window lattice, stretching their shadows very, very long.
After a long while, Lu Shiqing finally stopped crying.
She looked up, her eyes still a bit red, but her expression had regained its calm.
“Husband, thank you.”
She said softly.
Ye Changge lowered his head and placed a light kiss on her forehead:
“Between husband and wife, why say thanks?”
The corners of Lu Shiqing's lips curled into a faint arc as she buried her face in his chest once more.
After another while, she yawned, and her eyelids began to fight to stay open.
After tossing and turning for half the night, through both crying and worrying, she had long been exhausted.
Seeing this, Ye Changge gently picked her up and placed her on the bed.
Lu Shiqing lay on the bed, holding his hand and refusing to let go:
“Husband, stay with me.”
Ye Changge nodded with a smile and lay down beside her with his clothes on.
Lu Shiqing immediately burrowed into his arms like a kitten, found a comfortable position, and closed her eyes.
Before long, she fell into a deep sleep.
Her breathing was even, her brow relaxed, and a faint smile hung at the corner of her mouth.
One wondered if she was dreaming of her son.
Ye Changge watched her quietly, and once he confirmed she was sleeping soundly, he gently withdrew his arm and rose from the bed.
He tucked in the corners of her quilt, lowered his head to leave a light kiss on her forehead, and then turned to leave the room.
---
Leaving Lu Shiqing's courtyard, the night breeze blew steadily, dispersing the residual warmth on his body.
Ye Changge stood outside the courtyard gate and looked up at the sky.
The moon was bright and the stars were sparse; the night was just right.
Changge Hall was extremely quiet, with only the occasional sound of insects chirping in the distance.
He paused in thought for a moment, then set off toward Xiao Caiyue's courtyard.
After all, she had just arrived and was a new bride; as her husband, he had to go and offer some comfort.
Moreover...
Ye Changge recalled the fair skin revealed after that water-blue palace dress was shed in Xiao Caiyue's room earlier, and that gaze filled with bashfulness yet total trust and commitment...
His pace couldn't help but quicken a bit.
---
Xiao Caiyue's courtyard was on the west side of Changge Hall, a quiet and elegant little courtyard.
Several clumps of emerald bamboo grew in the yard; as the night breeze blew past, the bamboo leaves rustled like dense whispering.
Moonlight spilled through the gaps in the bamboo leaves, casting mottled shadows on the ground that swayed gently with the branches, creating a unique and tranquil Concept.
Ye Changge pushed the door open and entered, crossing the small path paved with bluestone slabs to reach the door of the main room.
The door was ajar, not fully closed.
He didn't knock, but gently pushed the door and walked inside.
A small Spiritual Lamp was lit inside the room, its light soft and warm, enveloping the entire room in a faint halo.
A faint fragrance permeated the air, like the scent of some spiritual flower, yet also like a woman's unique body fragrance—ethereal, lingering, and refreshing.
Ye Changge looked up—
He saw a slender figure lying on her side upon the bed.
It was Xiao Caiyue.
She had changed out of the water-blue palace dress from the daytime and was wearing a moon-white nightgown; the fabric was light and soft, clinging to her body and outlining her slender, graceful waist and burgeoning curves.
Her jet-black long hair was scattered across the pillow, making her already fair skin appear even more lustrous like snow.
She seemed to have been asleep for a while but was startled awake by some sound; she was currently propping herself up slightly, looking toward the door.
Seeing it was Ye Changge, she was first slightly stunned, and then a faint blush rose on her cheeks.
“Husband...”
She called out softly, her voice carrying a hint of the laziness of someone just awakened, yet also the delicate softness unique to a woman.
Ye Changge walked to the bedside, sat down on the edge, reached out to gently stroke her long hair, and said warmly:
“Did I wake you?”
Xiao Caiyue shook her head and gently sat up.
The collar of her nightgown was slightly open, revealing a section of collarbone as fair as jade, which shimmered with a lustrous glow under the light of the Spiritual Lamp.
Noticing Ye Changge's gaze, her cheeks reddened further; she reached out to pull her collar together, yet did not deliberately avoid him.
“Why did husband come over?”
She asked softly.
Ye Changge smiled and reached out to pull her into his arms:
“To see you. You've just arrived, and I was afraid you wouldn't be used to it.”
Xiao Caiyue leaned in his arms, the corners of her lips curling into a faint arc:
“I'm not a child anymore; there's nothing to be unused to.”
Despite her words, she didn't push him away; instead, she buried her face even deeper.
Ye Changge gently stroked her back, feeling the warm and soft body in his arms, his heart filled with tenderness.
The two of them just held each other quietly, neither saying a word.
Outside the window, the bamboo leaves rustled, and the Spiritual Lamp emitted a soft light; the atmosphere was warm and peaceful.
After a moment, Ye Changge suddenly remembered something.
He looked down at Xiao Caiyue in his arms and spoke:
“Caiyue, do you still remember that strand of Yin-Yang Qi inside your body when we were in Dual Cultivation?”
Hearing this, Xiao Caiyue's cheeks instantly flushed red.
She naturally remembered.
When that Yin-Yang Qi entered her body, it brought a strange sensation of intertwined warmth and coolness, slowly wandering through her Meridians. Everywhere it passed was like spring water melting ice and snow, making her long-withered Meridians seem to regain their vitality.
