52: Chapter 49 Resurrection, Asakura Miyuki!
Kaiwen looked at the figure with a straw in her mouth before her, her tensed muscles relaxing slightly, yet she still did not completely let down her guard.
"Headmaster." Kaiwen reached out and pointed at Monitor Fu Hua lying on the ground, then looked at Bronya and Nagi in the hallway outside the door, "What is going on with them?"
Theresa removed the straw, glanced at Monitor Fu Hua on the ground, her expression showing little fluctuation.
"Far East black technology, short-acting tactical hypnotic device."
"Why?"
"Monitor Fu Hua is an eye planted by Schicksal Headquarters in the Far East, and Bronya's identity and background are also very complex," Theresa said in a flat tone, "so let them sleep for a while. You can rest assured that tomorrow they won't remember anything."
Kaiwen frowned: "Then why didn't I—"
Her words stopped before she could finish them.
Someone patted her shoulder from behind.
Kaiwen instinctively turned her head, but what greeted her was a face extremely close to hers.
So close that she could clearly feel the temperature of the other's breath.
A pair of bright eyes quietly looked at her, holding something that could not be clearly described.
Before Kaiwen could react, Miyuki had already cupped her face with both hands, stood on tiptoe, and kissed her fiercely.
Before Kaiwen had time to think about anything, a layer of warm touch pressed against her lips.
Kaiwen's mind went blank, instinctively reaching out to push her away, but the palms pressing against Miyuki's shoulders felt like pressing against an iron plate; no matter how she pushed, she couldn't push her away.
Miyuki kissed very seriously, even carrying a strength that was almost stubborn.
Kaiwen was blocked to the point of being increasingly unable to breathe, wanting to turn her head away, but Miyuki's palms tightly clasped the sides of her cheeks;
wanting to lean backward, her fingers had already tightly gripped the back of her head.
Since when did this girl have such great strength?
Kaiwen's vision began to darken slightly, and right now she couldn't think about anything at all.
At the critical moment, Theresa's abrupt voice came from the side:
"... Asakura Miyuki, if you keep kissing, Kaiwen is going to be kissed to suffocation alive by you."
Hearing this, Miyuki finally let go with a lingering reluctance.
Kaiwen hurriedly retreated a few steps, bending over to support her knees, panting heavily.
Her brain was buzzing, and it took her a long time to recover.
After resting for a moment, she straightened her waist, raised her head, and glared at Miyuki:
"Asakura Miyuki... are you out of your mind?!"
Before she could finish her words.
Miyuki took a step forward, solidly crashing into Kaiwen's embrace.
Her two arms wrapped tightly around Kaiwen's waist like iron rings, burying her face deeply into her shoulders.
Kaiwen was knocked back half a step, all her anger seeming to be stuck in her throat.
The room fell into a brief dead silence.
Miyuki did not speak, just pressing tightly against her like that.
After a few seconds, Miyuki's voice came from inside her shoulder.
Very soft, very calm.
"Kaiwen, long time no see, I survived."
Kaiwen stood in place, unmoving.
Feeling the real heartbeat in her arms, Kaiwen's originally stiff body also relaxed bit by bit.
She thought of when she was in Changkong City a month ago.
At that time, Miyuki was lying in the convenience store, and Kaiwen couldn't even be sure whether she could still survive.
However, now she was sure.
Kaiwen was silent for a few seconds, raised her hand, and gently ruffled Miyuki's hair.
"Forget it... as long as you survived."
The two of them hugged quietly like this in the white-light-flashing laboratory, neither of them speaking.
Until—
"Slu—urp—!!"
An extremely inappropriate sound of sucking an empty box broke this warmth.
The two of them reacted as if waking from a dream that there were still people around, Miyuki released her hand with slightly red ear tips, but still took the opportunity to tightly hug one of Kaiwen's arms.
Theresa threw the crumpled bitter melon juice carton into the trash can, then unhurriedly leaned back against the console: "Alright, you're done catching up, right? Since you've seen it all, I won't beat around the bush about some things."
Kaiwen patted the back of Miyuki's hand, turned her head, and looked over.
"This underground laboratory," Theresa said softly, "its main purpose is to develop mental defense and Remembrance intervention equipment, but Schicksal Headquarters does not know of this place's existence, and I don't intend to let them know."
Kaiwen thought for a moment: "So that urban legend—"
Theresa raised her chin, pointing to the empty cubicle behind the glass observation window, "For some reason, some students kept running over to the old teaching building to explore in the middle of the night a while ago, but they always bumped into ongoing experiments, so I had the researchers perform Remembrance clearance on them."
"What about the one whose Remembrance was over-cleared?"
"That was a rookie researcher whose parameters weren't calibrated properly, wiping a bit too much Remembrance for a period of time. However, that student turned out fine, except she mixed up interpersonal relationships. I heard she called someone else Mom the moment she woke up."
When Theresa said this, her expression didn't change much, but Kaiwen distinctly felt that Theresa was also struggling a bit to keep a straight face.
"Then this matter spread more and more bizarrely," Theresa took a sip of bitter melon juice, "turning into things like the 'Old Teaching Building Urban Legend' and 'Missing Persons Incident'. It even made you run over tonight."
She glanced at Kaiwen, and her meaning was very clear: "Kaiwen, everything you saw here tonight must absolutely not let Monitor Fu Hua know."
"I understand."
"Not just Monitor Fu Hua, Bronya as well; that child's background is more complex than you imagine," Theresa paused, "I will arrange for someone to create a fake Remembrance for them, so that nothing happened in the old teaching building tonight, and when they wake up tomorrow morning, they won't remember this place."
Kaiwen nodded, was silent for a few seconds, and glanced at Miyuki beside her: "Then what about her? How come Miyuki is here?"
Miyuki raised her head and smiled: "My body's recovery is actually not very good, so I've been doing rehabilitation testing here recently. It's okay, once I get a little better, I'll go find you!"
When Miyuki said this, her tone was very relaxed, but Kaiwen noticed that she subconsciously touched her own wrist.
There was a small medical wristband there, with a serial number printed on it.
Kaiwen didn't ask much.
She knew Miyuki was not telling the truth, or at least not telling the whole thing.
However, since both Theresa and Miyuki didn't want to talk much about this matter, she didn't need to question them to their faces.
What should be known will eventually be known in the future.
"Alright." Kaiwen nodded, looking at Miyuki, "When you get better, come find me, and I'll treat you to orange Soda."
"It's a deal!"
Theresa pressed the communication button on the console: "Send three people to take the three students in the hallway back to their respective dormitories, following standard procedures."
The other end of the communication acknowledged.
In less than a minute, three researchers in white coats pushed stretcher carts over from the other end of the hallway with practiced movements, looking like it wasn't their first time doing this kind of thing.
Kaiwen stood at the doorway, watching them lift Monitor Fu Hua, Bronya, and Nagi onto the stretcher carts one by one.
Soda was pinned under Nagi. When the researcher picked it up, it let out an unsatisfied meow.
Kaiwen reached out and took Soda, tucking it under her arm.
"Kaiwen." Theresa called out behind her.
Kaiwen turned back.
Theresa stood in the shadows of the control room, holding the bitter melon juice in her hand, her expression somewhat unclear.
"Let tonight's events rot in your stomach."
"Got it."
