64: Chapter 58 Konagi
My name is Nagi.
On the surface, I am an ordinary Valkyrie student in Class B of St. Freya Academy.
Full of energy, with above-average grades, good popularity, occasionally helping classmates save seats in the cafeteria, and going shopping in the commercial district with everyone on weekends.
Just a most ordinary girl.
But in reality, I am an undercover agent planted by Schicksal Headquarters in St. Freya Academy.
Today is the four hundred and thirty-seventh day of my undercover assignment.
The alarm hasn't rung yet, and I'm already awake. This is the only ability I've cultivated during my years as an undercover agent.
Lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, I went through today's plan in my mind.
The encrypted command sent by the headquarters yesterday is still pressed in the hidden partition of the terminal, and I looked at it over and over again.
The content has one more item than usual.
In addition to "continue observation" like the past thirty-odd days, a new highest-priority notice has been added:
Lord Bishop will personally visit St. Freya Academy for inspection in the near future, and all undercover personnel will enter a hidden state.
Lord Bishop is coming to Far East in person?
In the more than four hundred days since I went undercover, this is the first time.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The sound in the living room interrupted my thoughts.
I took a deep breath and got ready to get up.
These three dull impacts sounded like someone was hitting the wall with their head.
I closed my eyes.
Without looking, I know who it is.
Pushing open the bedroom door, the scene in the living room was exactly as I expected.
My first roommate, Hinata, is practicing boxing against the wall in the middle of the living room wearing pajamas.
5:40 a.m., practicing on time.
Every time her fist hits the wall, it leaves a shallow dent, and the walls of our dorm have been smashed by her to be as pitted as the lunar surface.
"Good morning, Nagi!" Hinata turned back and gave me a brilliant smile, "I feel that the effect of today's morning exercise is particularly good. Do you want to throw a couple of punches too?"
I flashed an energetic smile: "No, no, I'm afraid I'll punch through the wall ~"
Smash the wall in the dorm at 5:40 early in the morning, the next door dorm has complained about us three times, I beg you to go to the playground, okay.
A weird smell came from the kitchen again.
I turned my head and saw my second roommate, Tojo.
Tojo stood in front of the stove with a bowl of white rice in front of her, topped with a layer of strawberry jam, and two slices of pickled cucumbers next to it.
She was holding chopsticks and stirring this bowl of mortal weapon with a serious face.
"Morning Nagi ~ Would you like a bowl? Strawberry mixed rice, newly developed by me yesterday."
"Wow, it looks so delicious! But I've already eaten ~"
I smiled, waved my hand, and turned back into the room.
Are you kidding me! Can you eat that thing yourself? Have your taste buds been corroded by Honkai Energy when you entered school?
I seriously suspect that these two people were specially assigned to me. Ever since these two moved in, I haven't had a single day of peace.
I packed my schoolbag and adjusted my hair and expression in front of the mirror.
Nagi in the mirror has a sweet smile and clear eyes, looking just like an ordinary energetic girl.
Very good.
Perfect camouflage.
"I'll go first ~ Hinata, Tojo, see you later!"
I waved to them and pushed the door out.
The moment I walked out of the dorm building, my smile faded.
The mission target is over in Class A.
The official instruction given to me by the headquarters is to monitor the white-haired girl named Kiana Kaslana.
But in these thirty-odd days of undercover observation, I increasingly feel that the headquarters should have watched the wrong person.
The one who should really be monitored is not Kiana.
It's the person next to her.
Kaiwen.
I walked along the tree-lined path towards the Class A teaching building, and saw that group of people from afar.
Kiana leaned against the railing, Bronya stood nearby holding a terminal, and Kaiwen was talking to a passing lower-grade student.
I slowed down, ready to approach quietly as usual.
Then Kaiwen seemed to feel something and raised her head.
Across a distance of more than twenty meters, passing through the coming and going crowds, she saw me at a glance, and then smiled and waved at me.
"Nagi, morning."
It's always like this.
Every time, no matter which corner of the crowd I hide in, no matter how naturally I disguise myself, she can find me in the first place and accurately call out my name.
I put on a smile and trotted over: "Good morning, good morning ~ Classmate Kaiwen!"
Then I logically joined their team and walked towards the teaching building together.
Along the way, all kinds of people were interacting with her.
A junior student carrying a stack of falling-apart teaching aid boxes walked from the opposite side. When Kaiwen passed by, she casually helped her stabilize the top box that was about to slide down, and called out the junior student's name: "Be careful, Mashiro."
The junior student blushed and thanked her, skipping away.
Walking further ahead, there was a classmate by the flower bed frowning and flipping through a textbook, and Kaiwen just casually said as she passed: "For the formula derivation in Chapter 3, look at Appendix B of the textbook; it explains it much clearer than the main text."
That classmate flipped through the appendix, and it was visible to the naked eye that the person's eyes lit up instantly.
Going further.
A girl walking fast with her head down had red eyes, as if she had just cried.
Kaiwen didn't stop, just patted her shoulder as she passed, and then said something softly.
I didn't hear clearly what she said, but the girl got much better after hearing Kaiwen's words.
From the dormitory building to the teaching building, it's only a dozen minutes' walk.
But Kaiwen greeted I don't know how many people, she could remember everyone's name clearly, and she could easily solve everyone's difficulties.
And the look in these people's eyes when looking at her was all the same.
Trust.
Reliance.
Closeness.
Like the sun walking past, everyone will instinctively turn their heads over.
I asked her before how many people she actually knew, and her answer was that she knew all five thousand students in St. Freya Academy.
But from the time she came to Saint Freya Academy until now, it has only been thirty days!
In over thirty days, I have written seventeen special reports about Kaiwen, each marked with the highest priority.
"The subject is suspected to possess information acquisition ability and interpersonal influence beyond conventional cognition. It is recommended that the headquarters list her as a primary observation object."
The headquarters' reply is always only one sentence.
"Received. Please continue to execute the original mission and focus on monitoring K423."
I walked two steps behind Kaiwen, looking at her back, watching the surrounding people naturally lean toward her as if pulled by gravity.
This person is abnormal.
This person is definitely not an ordinary Valkyrie student.
And now, Lord Bishop is actually coming to Saint Freya in person.
I don't know what the purpose of Lord Bishop's trip is.
But I have an intuition β this matter cannot be separated from the person named Kaiwen in front of me.
