4: Chapter 4: Angel Campus (Part 4)
The moment she stepped into the dormitory, the lights turned on automatically. Qian Ye carefully examined the door handle and realized that the dorm door could only be closed from the inside.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, how calculating." If she left the dorm, it wouldn't be easy to notice if some strange thing snuck in.
The dormitory was for four people, and one of the spots was already occupied. It also had a private bathroom. Seeing this, Qian Ye wore a meaningful smile.
"The accommodations at Angel Campus are really quite good."
The door was slightly ajar. On the sticker outside the door, Qian Ye saw other names besides her own.
There might be players, and there might be NPCs.
Qian Ye picked a comfortable spot and lay down to rest.
Sigh, back when she was an NPC, although the work was easy, the only downside was the lack of rest; she almost never had a peaceful sleep.
Of course, she had enjoyed it.
However, things were different now. She had become a player. Only by resting well would she have the energy to continue the game, hee-hee.
———
As soon as Qian Ye opened her eyes, she was met with a pair of dead-fish eyes. Subconsciously, she threw a punch. The NPC clutched her eye, a look of grievance on her face; she was just curious about the new roommate moving in, as she hadn't had one for a long time.
Qian Ye glared at her. "What are you looking at? You want another punch?" After saying that, she brandished her fist again.
The NPC's body trembled. Ugh, the new roommate is a bit scary.
By now, Qian Ye was fully awake. She coughed twice. Ahem, was she being too mean? After all, she was an NPC herself yesterday. She should be a bit friendlier to them.
Qian Ye rolled off the bed and approached the NPC. "Hey, Baby, we're friends now after that little scuffle."
The NPC's face turned red. Oh my god, she—she actually called me Baby! "H-hello."
The two had a pleasant exchange, and Qian Ye learned her name: Liu Xia.
No wonder she had leaned in curiously to look at her; she said she hadn't seen anyone move into this dorm for a long time, and people said the room was haunted.
Hearing this, Qian Ye looked at her strangely: Of course it's haunted.
That's right—this new roommate of hers wasn't human but a ghost. However, she herself didn't seem to know she was a ghost.
"Oh, they must just be too cowardly, so they think it's haunted. When I see you, I feel an unusual sense of kinship."
"Really? Really? I—I feel the same way!" Liu Xia smiled brightly at Qian Ye.
While the human and the ghost were having a friendly chat, a loud "bang" was heard as the door was pushed open with great force.
"It's you!"
Hearing the voice, Qian Ye turned around. Oh, it was a player—the most pampered one from before.
Qian Ye glanced at her and then looked away.
She'd rather keep chatting with her NPC roommate.
"Hey, how can you be so rude? I'm talking to you."
The girl walked in and pointed directly at Qian Ye, her face full of dissatisfaction.
What kind of person is this? No manners at all.
Before Qian Ye could react, Liu Xia stood up abruptly, hands on her hips. "You're the rude one! You actually acted like you didn't even see me!"
Qian Ye was the first person in a long time willing to be her friend. She couldn't let her be bullied. Liu Xia thought to herself that she must not let her new friend be picked on.
Seeing this, Qian Ye scratched the tip of her nose and looked at the ceiling without saying a word. To avoid hurting her little companion, she decided not to tell the truth.
Seeing that Qian Ye still ignored her, the person at the door stomped her foot. At some point, Qian Ye had taken out her little red umbrella to admire it. This suddenly reminded the girl of everything that had happened on the school bus, and she didn't dare trouble Qian Ye anymore.
The person who came in was Mo Lan. Fortunately, she and Qian Ye had been assigned to the same dormitory.
She shot a secret glare at Qian Ye. Seeing her sitting on her bed, Mo Lan chose a spot for herself. Coincidentally, she picked Liu Xia's spot.
"Hey, how can you be like this? Can't you see someone is already in this bed?" Liu Xia rushed in front of Mo Lan, but unfortunately, Mo Lan didn't react at all.
Liu Xia huffed and came to Qian Ye's side. "She—she's the rudest one! I'm a whole person standing right here, yet she ignored me just like those people before."
"Qianqian, you're still the best."
Qian Ye fell silent for a moment. Looking at her huffy expression combined with the black eye, it was strangely comical.
"Didn't you hear the person next to you telling you to pick another spot?" Qian Ye curled her lips into a mischievous smile.
Mo Lan was annoyed again. She just thought this bed looked cleaner. "What? I need your permission to choose a spot?"
Qian Ye glanced at Liu Xia, slowly smoothed out her skirt, and looked up with a half-smile. "Are you blind? Can't you see our roommate is almost crying from anger?"
"Wh-what?"
"You've taken someone else's bed and you're still playing dumb!" Liu Xia ran to her side and kept talking in her ear.
Mo Lan only felt a cold breeze by her ear. She looked around, but besides herself and the girl in front of her, there was no one else in the dorm.
"D-don't try to scare me."
She... she should probably change spots.
Although she was a bit willful, she knew this was a horror game, not reality; anything could appear.
Mo Lan decisively gave up the bottom bunk and chose the top one.
"Wow, Qianqian, you're amazing!" Liu Xia looked at Qian Ye with admiration. She hadn't expected a few words would drive the bad roommate away.
Liu Xia happily returned to her bed. She could have a good sleep tonight.
Mo Lan on the top bunk had already closed her eyes. Qian Ye shook her head; this girl was quite bold. Glancing at the slightly ajar door, she flicked her hand slightly and closed it. To celebrate becoming a player today, she'd be a good person for once.
"Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~" At midnight, an eerie ringing echoed throughout the entire dormitory floor, sounding now far, now near.
At this moment, silence reigned inside Qian Ye's dorm. Suddenly, a "thud, thud, thud" of knocking came from the door. There was no movement inside. Outside the window, eerie shadows flickered, flailing their limbs as if in rage.
Once again, the "thud, thud, thud" of the knocking became urgent. Mo Lan's brow furrowed. The sound was like a demonic melody, piercing into her brain. Suddenly, she snapped her eyes open. Her movements were mechanical as she sat straight up, got out of bed, and walked toward the door step by step.
A sigh was heard, and Mo Lan's consciousness suddenly snapped awake. She felt her hand completely out of her control, slowly reaching for the door handle.
At this moment, the knocking became even more frantic, seemingly tinged with excitement.
The ghostly shadows outside the window flailed about. Seeing this, Mo Lan's eyes widened, her face full of terror. No, don't. Someone, please save her.
"So noisy."
The next second, Mo Lan felt a gust of wind blow past her ear. With a "click," the door was opened.
Mo Lan's eyes widened.
"You..." Mo Lan pulled her hand back, startled. She could move again.
Mo Lan watched helplessly as Qian Ye walked out of the dormitory with light steps.
Hmm? Was it an illusion?
Why did she feel like the girl was radiating an aura of joy?
Mo Lan shook her head. She looked back at the pitch-black dormitory, then at Qian Ye stepping out the door, and decisively chose to follow her.
"Jie jie jie, consider yourself lucky."
After Mo Lan left, an eerie laugh echoed from within the dormitory.
