52: Chapter 52: The Mystery of the Old House (Twenty-Six)
"No, no!"
"My meaning is that you must help me kill him!"
The Attaching Spirit seemed terrified that Qian Ye would leave. (Because she was possessed by the wedding dress, she was called the Attaching Spirit.)
"As long as you help This Palace leave, besides power, I will also tell you a secret."
Qian Ye blinked, her eyes crystal clear. "Is that so~"
"Hee hee, I prefer exploring things personally." Enthusiastically lifting the hong ling umbrella, she rushed straight toward her, causing the beauty to instinctively retreat.
Seeing that she wasn't taking the bait at all, the Attaching Spirit's face turned hideous. The hand hidden under her sleeve transformed directly into withered bone, growing longer. "Go die."
Qian Ye's eyes flickered as she made her move. The hong ling umbrella struck the abdomen directly. Instantly, countless plumes of black mist surged out, transforming into hideous human heads. Seeing her injured, they all swarmed forward.
To the side, Qian Ye quietly watched her being gnawed upon.
"No!"
"You lowly ants, it is your blessing to be devoured by This Palace."
"Get away..."
The Attaching Spirit pressed down on the wound on her abdomen, the colors of her brilliant bridal attire growing somewhat dim.
Standing aside, Qian Ye shook her head.
Self-inflicted misery.
With a flick of her hand, she trapped her to one side; she was still useful and couldn't be killed yet.
She looked up at the entire stone wall, which was embedded with several pairs of eyes; the eyes of those Brides had all been gouged out.
The Attaching Spirit saw her actions and looked at the eyes on the wall with pride in her own. "Hahahaha, they are all my masterpieces. Look, how beautiful they are."
"These pairs of vivid eyes are perfect for preservation."
Qian Ye stepped forward, observing those eyes carefully, and nodded in agreement. "Not bad, they are indeed quite beautiful. However, next time, remember to be a bit more neat and swift with your technique. This pair, and that one—several pairs of eyes are damaged."
Seeing that Qian Ye actually agreed with her methods and even praised her, the Attaching Spirit was a bit confused.
Suddenly, a burst of suona music came from outside the stone door, each note higher than the last.
It could be heard very clearly from inside.
Qian Ye was very familiar with this suona sound. Since she couldn't leave for the moment, she found a spot and leisurely listened to the music from the outside world.
"Guess what's happening outside?"
Qian Ye looked at her; even from a distance, the excitement nearly overflowing from her couldn't be hidden.
For a moment, she recalled the suona sounds she had heard at night before, meant for welcoming a Bride. Her mind raced, remembering Ember Stain's words: the last one.
"Just one last one left, and you'll be free."
Qian Ye pointed it out directly. The corners of the Attaching Spirit's mouth dropped, and her eyes glinted with a malicious light. Clearly, Qian Ye had guessed correctly.
—
Meanwhile, outside the stone door.
Hu Tao remembered that after fainting and waking up again, he was in a strange hall. It was filled with NPCs, decorated with lanterns and streamers. Red lanterns hung high, and at the highest central point hung a woman wearing a wedding dress. Everyone seemed not to see her, ignoring her completely.
The entire hall was filled with a bizarre atmosphere. Hu Tao took a closer look and realized the deceased was an NPC who usually stayed close to Angelica.
The red wedding dress was exactly the same as the one he had seen on other players before; perhaps, it was the very same one.
He sat there, not daring to speak easily, only quietly observing the surroundings. The NPCs all wore the same curvature on their lips—a creepy smile—as if they were waiting to welcome something.
He soon found out. Appearing from outside were the NPCs Desolate Wind and Angelica; one in a red wedding dress, the other in a groom's attire. He instantly understood they were about to hold a wedding, and this hall was their wedding chamber.
What surprised him even more was that the person appearing in the high seat was actually the "boyfriend" the big boss kept thinking about.
He even heard the new couple calling out: "Ancestor."
Whether it was the NPCs or the surviving players, Hu Tao noticed that the big boss was nowhere to be seen.
Thus, Hu Tao witnessed a sudden wedding.
"Let me go, let me go! Desolate Wind, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person."
"I am your new wife!"
The noise pulled Hu Tao's thoughts back. Listening to Angelica's frantic voice, Hu Tao was left with only a sense of lamentation.
He hadn't expected this wedding to be a conspiracy; rather than a wedding, it was more like a funeral.
The NPCs present grew even more excited as they heard her screaming, the smiles on their faces deepening.
"Angelica, this is your fate."
"From the day you whispered in my ear and had me write your name in the ancestral hall and on the family tree to become my wife, your life no longer belonged to you."
Desolate Wind no longer had a shred of his gentlemanly demeanor. His eyes held a sense of satisfaction mixed with a hint of madness.
Soon, soon, he would be liberated. The curse of his generation was about to end.
"Ahhh..."
"Desolate Wind, you will die a horrible death!"
Hearing this, Desolate Wind smiled tenderly, though his expression carried a trace of pain. "Zhi'er, I love you, but... who told you to get on my family's tree..."
"It can't be changed, it can't be changed."
"Zhi'er, you love me too. Just do this for me, and I will remember you forever."
"Get lost, get lost!"
"Who wants your remembrance? I want to be the Young Mistress."
"How much is your 'liking' worth..."
Angelica was hysterical. She was trapped inside the bridal sedan chair, the wedding dress she wore extremely vivid.
If Qian Ye saw it, she would find it was roughly the same as the one the Attaching Spirit was wearing inside.
"Zhi'er, you..."
"I didn't expect you to be this kind of person, but... do you know..."
Desolate Wind approached the sedan chair, his eyes full of malice. "Uncle Bai adopted you just so you could die in my place..."
"No, impossible!"
"Nothing is impossible!"
Desolate Wind left the sedan chair and went to Ember Stain's side.
"Ancestor, is it time?"
Ember Stain gazed at the stone door; something seemed slightly off.
It was very quiet.
Inside the stone door, Qian Ye looked at the Attaching Spirit on the ground with a smile. The spirit's form was crumpled, with holes here and pieces missing there.
"You... if you have the ability, then kill me."
The Attaching Spirit stared at Qian Ye through gritted teeth.
Qian Ye twirled the hong ling umbrella in her hand, looking at the flower bud in her arms with a smile as she shook her head.
With a profound look, she said, "Not yet."
The time hadn't come yet.
The little flower hadn't bloomed, so she couldn't leave.
"Hahahahaha..."
"Hahahaha..."
Suddenly, a series of eerie laughs echoed throughout the entire stone cave.
"It's it! The time has come, it has awakened!"
"Hahahaha, you're dead for sure."
Following the Attaching Spirit's words, the bridal attire on her body flickered, looking as though it were about to vanish.
Qian Ye watched this scene quietly.
"The bridal attire on This Palace is merely an illusion. The real bridal attire... you, you people are not worthy."
"Hahahaha..."
"It's coming, you will all be buried with me."
"Freedom is coming."
"Those nine hundred and ninety-nine Brides were not in vain."
"Listen, the last one has been delivered too."
The Attaching Spirit stood up unsteadily, her face full of pride.
She would be free soon.
Thump... Thump... Thump...
Some movement came from inside, sounding like something striking a wooden board.
Thump... Thump... Thump...
Hearing this sound, the corners of Qian Ye's mouth curled up.
"There, finally waited for it~"
"Hee hee~"
"Truly, thank you very much~"
Qian Ye gave the Attaching Spirit a gentlemanly bow, then turned and walked deeper inside with light footsteps.
