8: Chapter 8: Angel Campus (Part 8)
As time passed, more and more black mist poured in. Before long, the entire dormitory was crowded with humanoid black shadows.
They bared their fangs and brandished their claws at them, churning incessantly, exuding a joyful aura of having caught their prey.
"Come stay with us."
"Stay with us."
"It's so lonely."
Qian Ye carried her little red umbrella and headed straight into their midst.
"Lonely? Big sister wants company too. Come on, I'll keep you good company, hee hee hee."
That eerie laughter was even more spine-chilling than those ghostly shadows.
"Watch my flower." Only Qian Ye and Mo Lan were in the dorm; this sentence was clearly directed at Mo Lan.
Mo Lan turned her head and saw the flower pot. Was it another hallucination? Why did it feel like it moved?
No time to overthink, Mo Lan hugged the flower pot and kept her eyes fixed on Qian Ye's figure.
The black mist was beaten into a steady retreat. They couldn't do anything to Qian Ye; even getting close to her was a problem.
Mo Lan watched as the group of black mist seemed to be asking for a beating, charging forward again and again.
At that moment, another disturbance came from the door. "Bang, bang, bang"—rapid, continuous knocking.
With a "click," the dormitory door was opened.
The culprits were none other than that group of black mist, now baring their claws as if in provocation.
The dorm door swung wide open, and the figures wandering in the hallway all turned their attention toward the two inside.
Turning their heads—mamma mia—they were all empty eye sockets.
"The—these are the students from the classroom today!"
Seeing them more like the walking dead, wandering mechanically, Mo Lan's voice immediately drew their gaze. In an instant, the doorway was packed with students.
Under the dim light, the dense crowd of empty eyes made one's scalp tingle.
Without pause, the people outside launched an attack, their fingers curled into claws, mouths wide as they rushed inside.
Qian Ye swung her little red umbrella, striking left and right like a Rakshasa.
"Heh heh, come play together."
"Come on~ Let's have some fun~"
Mo Lan...
Just who exactly was the monster here?
Mo Lan carefully protected the boss's flower while picking up a weapon; the axe from last night felt quite handy.
Her movements were clumsy at first, but every time an NPC was about to grab her, she accidentally managed to dodge.
Qian Ye, who was having a blast, saw this out of the corner of her eye. Looking at the bloodstains splashed on herself, she felt salty.
While she was feeling salty, another one who wasn't afraid to die rushed over, and instantly her little dress was covered in stains.
"How annoying, you dirtied my little dress again." As soon as she spoke, Qian Ye seemed to enter berserk mode, engaging in a one-sided slaughter. The hong ling umbrella was soaked in blood.
At the stairs, Zhan Hao had just climbed up when he saw the NPCs fleeing everywhere, completely ignoring his presence.
???
Was his presence really that low?
Just as he was thinking that, he saw another figure chasing the NPCs. After seeing clearly who it was, his expression became complicated.
"Babies, don't run away~"
"We agreed to play together."
"Hee hee hee."
The one chasing the NPCs was indeed Qian Ye. As if she had taken stimulants, she shouldered her little red umbrella, scaring the NPCs into hiding everywhere.
Zhan Hao dealt with the monsters chasing from downstairs and heard those words. His scalp tingled—was this a player?
This was more insane than the NPCs. Thank goodness they were on the same side, otherwise he'd be stuck with a lunatic.
In an instant, Zhan Hao sounded an alarm in his mind; this was a dangerous person who must absolutely not be provoked.
Thinking about how he had previously gone against the boss, Zhan Hao gave himself two slaps.
"That's for your big mouth, that's for your big mouth."
Fortunately, the boss didn't sacrifice him to the heavens.
Qian Ye was like a fish in water among the NPCs, having the time of her life. Her light red dress had now turned dark red.
When Qian Ye appeared in the hallway again, she heard intermittent crying from afar, as if someone was saying something.
"I—I didn't mean to. I was just scared."
"I—I really didn't do it on purpose."
"Believe me."
Qian Ye was using a handkerchief to wipe the blood from her cheek when she heard this.
"Bai! Xiao!"
"That was a human life!"
"Is this a question of whether you meant to or not? You actually attacked a companion." Lin Yu looked furious.
After watching the drama for a while, Qian Ye understood what had happened.
She saw that Yu Zi, who had been by Bai Xiao's side, was gone.
It turned out that when the group of crazed students appeared, Yu Zi had opened the door and come under attack. To save her own life, Bai Xiao pushed Yu Zi into the crowd of monsters, watching her be devoured while she herself secured a chance at survival.
This scene happened to be seen by Zhan Hao and Lin Yu, who had come up to rescue them. Lin Yu was questioning her: why?
Tai Feng remained expressionless. He constantly reminded himself that this was a game, a game of life and death; trusting others was the greatest mistake.
"If only—if only you'd held on a bit longer, we would have arrived." Beside Zhan Hao, Lin Yu looked pained.
That innocent little girl, the one who sweetly called him Brother Lin Yu, was gone just like that.
"Can you blame me? It was her! Why did she open the door?"
"If the door hadn't been opened, none of this would have happened!"
Bai Xiao wiped the tears from her face. She wasn't wrong; it was all Yu Zi's fault for opening the door.
Lin Yu looked incredulous. She—she actually said something like that!
He thought they were companions worthy of trust, but he hadn't expected...
Mo Lan opened her mouth to say something, but seeing the boss's gaze, she immediately shut it.
She knew why Yu Zi had opened the door; just like herself last night, it was completely beyond her control.
"Done talking? Can you move aside?" Qian Ye yawned. She was exhausted; there had been no peace all night.
"You—do you even have a heart? A companion just died in front of you, and you're not sad at all!"
"Lin Yu, calm down." Zhan Hao held him back. Why provoke the lunatic in front of them?
He knew Lin Yu had developed some feelings for Yu Zi and had been happy to see it happen, but he hadn't expected such a thing to occur so suddenly.
Qian Ye listened to his nonsense, looking at him as if he were an idiot. "What, do you want me to strike gongs and beat drums in celebration?"
"You..." Lin Yu's face turned ashen.
Zhan Hao held him tightly, telling him not to be foolish.
"B—Boss, don't mind his ravings. His brain was just injured by the monsters." Zhan Hao forced a smile while gripping Lin Yu.
Seeing his idiotic behavior, Qian Ye rolled her eyes, pushed aside those blocking the way, and plunged into the dormitory.
Seeing this, Mo Lan hurriedly followed her back into the room.
Tai Feng looked at Mo Lan following behind Qian Ye, his eyes full of envy.
Inside the dorm, Mo Lan was eager to show her worth and quickly handed over the flower pot she had been holding. The moment she saw the pot, she was astonished. "It actually sprouted!"
"Mm, not bad. Thank you very much." Qian Ye returned to her harmless appearance.
This thanks made Mo Lan feel overwhelmed. She waved her hands repeatedly. "It's only right, it's only right."
Tai Feng, who hadn't left yet, happened to see this scene and was at a loss for words.
Qian Ye took the flower pot and fiddled with the little tender bud inside, frowning. "Baby, this won't do. You've only just sprouted."
As if in response to her, the sprout swayed a few times, venting its dissatisfaction.
"Alright, alright. Not enough fertilizer. No more tonight, we'll continue another day." After soothing the little tender bud, Qian Ye placed it by the door.
