136: Chapter 136 The Collapsed Mutant of Enhanced Zombies, A Giant Ruyi Staff Falling from the Sky

The [dream chaser]'s pale blue shield and [hundred-refined dragon steed]'s flowing light patterns intertwined on the dark red highway, as the two teams pushed toward the energy source 500 meters away.

The enhanced zombies along the way were still crazily lunging, but were firmly suppressed by the [Most Journey to the West] team's offensive—and Sun Miaomiao's battle became the most dazzling scene on the highway.

"Transform!" Just as her crisp shout faded, her figure transformed into a golden eagle with a four-meter wingspan, its sharp claws gripping the [ruyi stick] as it shot straight into the sky.

As the golden eagle's wings flapped, the [ruyi stick] surged into a five-meter-long, thin golden rod; with a sweep, swathes of enhanced zombies were swept away, their dark green blood splashing into arcs in the air.

Having just dealt with the flying variants in the air, she dove down, transforming into a sturdy Northeast tiger; the [ruyi stick] shrank into a short rod held in her mouth, and while her tiger claws shattered zombie skulls, the short rod could also precisely pierce the eyes of approaching variants.

"She can even transform into this?" Zhao Hu, lying on the [dream chaser]'s cargo bed, watched as Sun Miaomiao suddenly transformed into a half-meter-long giant beetle, using its pitch-black mandibles to crush the Rock shells of hardened variants, and couldn't help but click his tongue.

The elytra on the beetle's back shimmered with a metallic luster, with not even a scratch from the zombies' sharp claws, while the [ruyi stick] turned into a thin needle, shooting out from the beetle's mouthparts to precisely pierce the skull of another variant.

"This is the power of the A-rank Talent [Shape-Shifting]!" Bai Feifei operated the [hundred-refined dragon steed] with one hand; while the wheels crushed the zombies, she didn't forget to admire Sun Miaomiao's battle.

"She can switch forms according to the enemy type; it's much more flexible than a pure attack Talent!"

Just then, Li Mubai's [Star Rail] suddenly flickered violently: "100 meters ahead! The energy source is right there!"

Everyone looked up and saw a deformed monster entrenched in the center of the highway—it was a Honkai Variant.

It was originally a human body, but now it was covered in dark green, oozing rotten flesh; dozens of dark black bone spurs protruded from its body, and the bone spurs were entangled with Honkai Poison Mist formed by the zombie virus enhanced by the Honkai Power.

Every time its chest heaved, the Honkai Poison Mist would spread a little further, and the red light in the eyes of the surrounding enhanced zombies would brighten a little more, their movements becoming a bit faster.

"It's a zombie virus variant enhanced by Honkai Power..." Zhang Hao activated [Eye of Numerology], and a pale golden light enveloped the variant.

He clearly saw that this variant's fate trajectory was not blurry like other zombies, but presented fragmented black patterns, with countless fine causal threads entangled on its body, denser than any previous variant—these threads connected to all the surrounding enhanced zombies; clearly, it was the source of the enhanced virus.

"No wonder ordinary zombies suddenly became so strong; it turns out this guy is constantly releasing the enhanced zombie virus!" Chen Rui gripped the icy spear transformed from [Thousand Faces].

"We must take it out first!"

"Leave it to me!" Sun Miaomiao's voice came from the air; she had transformed back into human form, floating ten meters high while stepping on the [ruyi stick].

The [ruyi stick] rotated rapidly in her hands, growing larger and larger, changing from arm-length to a giant pillar three meters thick, the golden light on its surface growing increasingly intense.

"Watch closely!"

Just as she was about to throw it, five flying variants suddenly sprang out from behind the Honkai Variant, their wings flapping with black mist as they lunged straight at Sun Miaomiao—they seemed to be controlled by the variant, specifically to block attacks.

"You want to stop me?" Sun Miaomiao raised an eyebrow; the [ruyi stick] suddenly burst with golden light, instantly expanding to double its size, becoming a giant pillar six meters thick.

She stepped on one end of the giant pillar, and the other end smashed toward the Honkai Variant blocked by the flying variants.

With several muffled "bang, bang, bang" sounds, the five variants didn't even manage to scream before being smashed into meat paste by the giant pillar, and the black mist was also dispersed by the golden light.

Immediately after, Sun Miaomiao stepped hard on the giant pillar and jumped into mid-air, shouting: "Shatter for me!"

The giant [ruyi stick] brought a whistling wind as it plummeted straight at the Honkai Variant.

The Honkai Variant roared and raised its bone-spurred arm to block, but its arm was instantly smashed by the giant pillar; immediately after, the giant pillar smashed fiercely into its chest—"Boom!"

With a deafening loud noise, the ground shook violently, and a strong wind pressure spread out from the impact point.

The surrounding enhanced zombies were blown away like paper, and the wheels of [dream chaser] and [hundred-refined dragon steed] both left one-meter-long marks on the ground before stabilizing.

As the dust cleared, a half-meter-deep crater appeared in the center of the highway; the Honkai Variant had been crushed into a thin sheet by the giant pillar, dark black blood seeped into the ground, and the Honkai Poison Mist on its body faded and dissipated.

"Done!" Sun Miaomiao landed back on the ground while holding the shrunken [ruyi stick], clapped her hands, her tone full of smugness.

Just then, everyone noticed that the red light in the eyes of the surrounding enhanced zombies was rapidly fading, and their movements became sluggish as they turned back into ordinary zombies.

"Once the Honkai Variant dies, the enhancement effect on the ordinary zombies disappears!" Lin Wan shouted in surprise, and the Purification Halo spread out, easily dispersing the residual pale black mist.

"Crushing time!" Bai Feifei took the lead in activating [hundred-refined dragon steed], the wheel spikes rotating again, crushing the zombies that had lost their enhancement.

Zhu Lingling let [Gluttonous Piggy] grow larger, the little pig opening its small mouth to swallow frantically, and the pale golden energy constantly flowed back to her; Sha Luoluo's quicksand gushed out again, trapping swathes of zombies, while the sandstorm gourd sprayed sand blades, harvesting them quickly; Tang Youyou sat in the back seat of the truck, occasionally spitting out a "Fixed" command, freezing zombies trying to escape, while the [Mimicking Parrot] followed, repeating it and expanding the control range.

The Dream Society was not to be outdone: Chen Rui's [Thousand Faces] transformed into an icy spear, freezing zombies as it swept; Zhao Hu activated [Giant Strength Berserk], his fists smashing zombie brains into splatter; Lin Wan's thorns entangled the zombies, providing cover for everyone; Li Mubai's [Star Rail] marked the escaped zombies in real-time, guiding the direction of attacks.

Half an hour later, the super-large zombie zone at the two routes' intersection was finally cleared.

[dream chaser] and [hundred-refined dragon steed] stopped beside the large crater, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Zhang Hao, however, walked straight toward the [dream chaser]'s cargo bed, his eyes fixed on the floating soul gourd.

Inside the gourd, among the originally dense gray-black light spots, there was one more light spot emitting a faint black glow—that was the Honkai Variant's Soul.

Around the black-glowing light spot, other light spots were trembling slightly, as if fearing something.

"This is the Honkai Variant's Soul..." Zhang Hao reached out toward the gourd, [Eye of Numerology] activated again; he could see fine black threads entangled in the black-glowing light spot, which were the exact causal threads he had seen on the variant earlier.

"Because of it, the Soul analysis progress has actually been completed."

The pale golden patterns on the surface of the soul gourd began to flicker: [Soul analysis progress 100%, analysis report generating...]

"Wow! What is this little black dot?" Sun Miaomiao leaned over, curiously staring at the soul gourd; the perception of her A-rank Talent allowed her to vaguely sense the Honkai Power within the black glow.

"What a strange energy!"

"We can finally stop and have a good chat." The leaders of the two teams smiled at each other in unison.
