2: Divination or gossip?
"Master Lister, your old servant heard some movement inside the carriage just now. Are you alright?"
It was clearly a language he had never heard before, yet Lister could inexplicably understand it, and the voice felt very familiar in his memory.
As the magnetic voice faded, the moving carriage slowly came to a halt, and a series of heavy footsteps quickly approached.
"I'm fine, Thomas. It's just that the injury to my head flared up suddenly."
"The pain has subsided now, don't worry." Saying this, Lister reached out and pushed open the carriage door.
The next moment, the cold, silver-blue moonlight slanted into the carriage, dispelling the vast darkness around Lister and illuminating his body.
Seeing Lister's somewhat pale face, the owner of the magnetic voice's expression changed slightly, and he said worriedly, "Master Lister, your complexion isn't good. Are you really alright?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the owner of the previous footsteps also appeared before Lister, his voice sounding muffled yet powerful and full of concern.
"Master Lister, what's wrong?"
"Rest assured, Red, I'm fine. It was just an onset of pain from my head injury. Thomas, you don't need to be so worried either."
After explaining and reassuring them once more, Lister's gaze sized up the two men standing outside the carriage under the moonlight.
Standing on the right was the owner of the magnetic voice, his butler, whose full name was Thomas Pearson... a middle-aged man in his fifties, dressed in a black tailcoat, immaculately groomed and appearing meticulous.
Standing on the left was his vassal Knight Captain, Red Aster. He had a burly build and a resolute face, wearing a set of thick silver-white armor with a large black sword hanging at his waist.
Both were currently the people he could trust the most.
While Lister was sizing them up, the two were also observing his complexion and state. Seeing his calm and peaceful expression, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Lister's injury was caused by a bandit attack, as subordinates, failing to protect their lord was a dereliction of duty that no reason could excuse.
Lister's cry just now had truly panicked them. Even though they saw that Lister was in a decent state now, the look of self-reproach remained on their faces.
Seeing this, Lister smiled knowingly. "You need not blame yourselves. If I hadn't been too nervous before, I wouldn't have been injured. This has nothing to do with you."
"I know your loyalty to me. Moving forward, I will still rely on you to deliver me safely to my territory."
Hearing this, the two showed expressions of surprise and trepidation. They clearly hadn't expected Lister to say such things. Was this still their lord?
Lister was not surprised by this, because in his memory, he had previously been an ordinary noble scion.
While he had no major vices, he was cowardly and weak by nature, very naive, and treated the two neither poorly nor particularly well, with a noble's arrogance bred into his bones.
With such a personality, if he hadn't been born into a noble family, he would have long since been 'devoured' by this dog-eat-dog world.
For instance, his personality was partly why he had been demoted from a Viscount to a Baron this time. If he could have opposed it with a firm attitude, perhaps things wouldn't have ended up this way.
The two wanted to say more, but he waved his hand and said, "Alright, let's continue our journey. I want to get some proper rest now."
Hearing this, the two didn't dare to hesitate and said respectfully, "Yes, Master Lister."
Closing the carriage door, Lister's body returned to darkness once more. Before long, the jolting sensation of the carriage beneath him returned.
At this point, he looked at the ancient book before him again. Seeing that the two had shown no special reaction during their conversation, he knew that only he could see this ancient book, which made him feel even more at ease.
As a strong thought of divination surfaced in his mind, the row of text for divination changed.
【Divination: Individual / All】
Looking at the two option buttons that suddenly appeared, he hesitated slightly because he wasn't sure what the difference between the two was.
After thinking for a bit, he chose 'All'. In his view, he would have to use them anyway, so using them sooner or later was the same... unless the divination effects were divided by time periods.
As he pressed down with his index finger, a large amount of text slowly emerged on the blank pages of the ancient book.
【Divination 1: Renata, the Viscountess of the Emerald Territory, will give birth to a male infant in one day. His father is Renata's son-in-law, Wade.】
【Divination 2: Viscount Humphrey of the Emerald Territory will have a secret tryst with his son-in-law Wade's elder sister, Barbara, and younger sister, Balis, at a private villa in two days' time in the evening.】
【Divination 3: At 4:27 PM in three days, an ownerless Green Sprite will appear at the border between the Ironthorn Territory and the Black Bear Territory. Baron Daniel of the Black Bear Territory will discover it on the fourth day.】
"This..." At the first sight of the first two pieces of information, a surge of blood rushed straight to his head.
Is this divination or just gossip!
He needed to rely on divination information to become stronger, not to read gossip news.
Was he supposed to say to Viscountess Renata, "Madam, you wouldn't want Lord Humphrey to find out about you and your son-in-law Wade, would you?"
He'd probably be dead within a few steps of saying that.
To threaten others for benefits, one had to have comparable strength; otherwise, it was just seeking death.
But jokes aside, he couldn't help but give a thumbs up to the colorful lives of Viscount Humphrey's family... Impressive!
Looking further down, the third divination entry was finally useful, and its utility was so great that his expression turned to one of great joy.
An ownerless Green Sprite, and it was right next to his territory.
Sprites were one of the most mysterious species in this world. Their appearance was completely random, and they possessed various incredible abilities.
Their abilities were based on size and color... For example, Yellow Sprites could detect various metal ore veins, and as long as it was within their sensing range, they could drastically increase production and extend the lifespan of the ore vein by ten years.
Green Sprites could detect various rare plants, planting soil, and the like. They also possessed abilities similar to Yellow Sprites, and they even had the ability to heal injuries and illnesses.
Of course, there were other sprites of different colors and abilities.
But without exception, they were all extremely rare, which was why people called them 'God's Blessing'.
"Three days later in the afternoon..." Lister wasn't sure how many days it would take to arrive.
Immediately, he called out loudly to Thomas outside the carriage, "Thomas, how many days until we reach the Ironthorn Territory?"
"Master Lister, based on our current pace, we should arrive in about three days," Thomas's respectful voice replied.
"Can we speed up and arrive in two days?"
"It's possible, but Master Lister, your injury needs..."
"My injury is fine. Right now, I want to reach the territory as soon as possible. Speed up the journey," Lister said in a tone that brooked no argument.
Hearing this, Thomas said no more and replied respectfully, "Yes, Master Lister."
Soon, the carriage speed picked up noticeably. Although the jolting became more severe, Lister was incredibly excited.
After all, without the divination ability, he would have had a very high probability of missing out on this Green Sprite.
His excitement lasted until the middle of the night, when he finally fell into a deep sleep accompanied by the faint moonlight.
