114: Chapter 114 Questioning!

Ten minutes later, the academic lecture hall on the first floor of the School of Life Sciences.

The lecture hall, which could originally accommodate three hundred people, was now packed to the brim.

In addition to reporters from major media outlets, there were students and teachers from the university who had rushed over upon hearing the news, and even Doctoral Students from the neighboring School of Information.

Zhao Yang stood alone on the stage, a microphone in front of him.

Facing dozens of cameras and hundreds of scrutinizing eyes, Zhao Yang looked calm.

For Zhao Yang, such a scene really was nothing.

As a chip sales manager in his past life, he had seen many big scenes before.

These few reporters in front of him were nothing more than a minor occasion.

"Student Zhao Yang!"

Just as the press conference began, a reporter wearing gold-rimmed glasses who looked very shrewd stood up first. Speaking rapidly towards Zhao Yang, he asked unceremoniously:

"I am a reporter from the Southern Science and Technology Weekly. We understand that you are only eighteen years old this year and have been enrolled as a freshman for less than three months.

As everyone knows, TIP is a top journal in the field of image processing; many Doctoral Students cannot publish a single paper even after exhausting three to five years.

May I ask, how did you complete the entire process from topic selection, modeling, and experimentation to writing the paper in such a short time? Did this research begin when you were in high school? Or is it that... there is 'help' from another team behind this?"

As soon as these words were spoken, the whole room was in an uproar.

This question was too sharp, even carrying a clear malicious implication—directly suggesting that Zhao Yang was suspected of academic fraud, or that he had a ghostwriter.

After all, a freshman publishing in a top journal was too contrary to common sense.

Nearby, other reporters' eyes were filled with excitement; this was big news!

Some reporters had even decided that if Zhao Yang's answer was inadequate, they could directly write a news draft with the headline: Academic Genius Caught in Ghostwriting Controversy!

This news would surely have a lot of traffic!

Professor Professor Gu Ming's expression sank instantly, and he was just about to take the microphone to fend off the question for Zhao Yang.

Zhao Yang, however, raised his hand slightly, stopping Professor Gu Ming.

He looked at the reporter, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"This reporter friend, your question is very interesting."

Zhao Yang adjusted the microphone, his voice clear, echoing throughout the lecture hall via the speakers:

"First, regarding the issue of time. For the mediocre, three years might only be enough to finish a literature review for a project; but for efficient researchers, three months is enough to complete a leap in thinking.

In the history of science, Newton founded calculus during the epidemic quarantine, and Einstein proposed relativity in his spare time at the patent office; time has never been a ruler for measuring achievements."

"Secondly, regarding the help."

Zhao Yang's eyes suddenly became sharp, "You are implying that this paper was ghostwritten? Then may I ask, at Beijing Forestry University, or even in the entire domestic academic circle, which professor or team is capable of easily solving a problem of this level?"

"If there is one, please find them. I can debate this paper with them in front of everyone. If they can convince me, and convince the academic community, then I can hand over the first authorship of this paper."

The reporter was stunned.

He didn't understand these things; he only knew that this paper was very impressive. Suddenly being asked this by Zhao Yang, he opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.

"Good!"

Someone in the student crowd shouted, followed by thunderous applause.

This answer was too domineering!

"Student Zhao Yang." Another female reporter stood up, her attitude much gentler.

"May I ask, as a student of the biological sciences major, why did you spend energy researching image processing algorithms?

Does this mean you think the computer industry has more prospects than the Biology industry? Or do you have plans to change your major?"

The whole room quieted down.

This was also the question everyone cared about the most.

Zhao Yang's gaze was profound as he spoke slowly:

"Tools and purposes are two different concepts. In my mind, there is no such thing as a clear-cut distinction between disciplines. All science and technology are interconnected and mutually achieve one another.

Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Informatics... in my view, all underlying disciplines have the possibility of being interconnected.

My goal is not limited to studying just one discipline!"

Hearing Zhao Yang's words, not only the media in the audience but also the professors and students in the auditorium were stunned.

Really? Studying so many disciplines? Where does he get all that energy!

Zhao Yang didn't know these people's thoughts; at this moment, he continued his speech.

"In my opinion, the computer is a tool, a means of processing information, it is the technique; while Biology is exploring the essence of life, it is interpreting God's code, it is the Tao. And science is never a single, isolated discipline; all disciplines should be integrated. For example."

Having said this, Zhao Yang stood up, walked to the whiteboard behind him, and picked up a marker.

He drew a DNA double helix structure on the whiteboard, and next to it, he drew a string of code consisting of 0s and 1s.

"Performing gene sequencing generates massive amounts of data, protein folding requires terrifying computing power, and simulating cell signaling pathways requires precise modeling. Relying on traditional manual analysis, we would need another hundred years."

"But in the future, the boundary between Biology and Informatics will no longer be clear-cut."

Zhao Yang turned around abruptly and drew a large equal sign between the two patterns.

"Carbon-based life is essentially a complex algorithm. And what we need to do is use silicon-based computing power to accelerate the cracking of carbon-based secrets."

"I call this—the era of Biological Computing."

Boom!

"The era of Biological Computing!"

This concept was simply a bombshell in 2008. At that time, everyone was still talking about Web 2.0 and 3G networks, while Zhao Yang directly pushed the perspective to the height of AI drug discovery and synthetic Biology more than a decade later!

The reporters in the audience's eyes lit up, and they frantically pressed their shutters.

This concept was too novel, too grand, and too newsworthy!

Professor Professor Gu Ming, sitting on the side, looked at Zhao Yang, who was talking eloquently, his eyes full of admiration.

He had originally thought that Zhao Yang only had talent in specific technologies, but he didn't expect him to be so advanced in his strategic vision!

"The era of Biological Computing, he is truly worthy of being a young person! And his ability is also top-notch." Professor Gu Ming sighed softly.

"It seems I might really be old." Professor Gu Ming muttered.

Standing in the corner, Gu Qing, holding a stack of materials, watched the brilliant young man on stage, her heart beating uncontrollably.

He was simply too dazzling.

"Then may I ask!" Another reporter stood up excitedly.

"Student Zhao Yang, you were able to publish in a top journal like TIP as a freshman, do you have any secrets? Is it talent? Or do you have some special learning method?"

Zhao Yang smiled slightly.

He swept his gaze across the audience, his eyes deep, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.

"I don't have any special learning methods."
