93: Chapter 93 Uploading Papers

It took nearly two hours, and by the time it was past 11:40...

Zhao Yang finally finished transcribing the entire paper onto the computer.

He gave it one last check; after all, it would be quite a hassle if the journal editor sent it back for revisions.

Once he was sure there were no issues, Zhao Yang opened the email for the editors of TIP (IEEE Transactions on Image Processing).

This was the journal that had published this paper in his past life, so it was naturally a perfect fit. There shouldn't be much of a problem getting it accepted this time.

After all, he was publishing this several years ahead of time, which meant it was more advanced. Perhaps the paper would even receive a special recommendation from TIP!

After sending the paper and confirming it was received, Zhao Yang breathed a small sigh of relief.

Finally, it was done!

Papers are truly a hassle!

Even though he had a deep impression of this paper from his past life, replicating it now was still fraught with difficulties; it wasn't as simple as just copying it over.

Besides needing to understand the paper itself well enough, he also had to restructure it. After all, times were different now, and many things couldn't be copied verbatim.

Likewise, he had to redo his algorithm.

Just like that, it took nearly half a month to get it finished!

Now, this paper was finally complete!

However, the review process for a Tier 1 journal would be slow.

It would probably take another half a month.

But Zhao Yang didn't care; if it took half a month, so be it!

As long as it could be published.

Having finished all this, Zhao Yang shut down his computer.

He looked around; his three roommates had already gone to sleep. A slight smile appeared in Zhao Yang's eyes.

It was almost midnight.

He turned off the desk lamp and went to bed!

The next day.

As usual, Zhao Yang got up at six in the morning to exercise.

These past few days, Zhao Yang hadn't been practicing Eight Extremes Fist in the morning. Instead, he started practicing the Five Animal Frolics. He possessed the Proficient skill level in this health-preserving technique.

Practicing it naturally didn't look as impressive or powerful as Eight Extremes Fist.

But after a few sets, Zhao Yang felt heat surging through his body.

His whole body felt stretched and limber, and he became full of energy.

After experiencing this once, Zhao Yang quickly switched his mandatory morning martial arts practice from Eight Extremes Fist to the Five Animal Frolics.

There was no helping it; after finishing the Five Animal Frolics, his whole body felt comfortable and revitalized.

The key was that the system also recognized this as moderate-to-high intensity exercise, so it counted toward his exercise time.

Why not do it?

After exercising, Zhao Yang had breakfast and headed to the laboratory.

"Morning, Senior."

In the lab, Li Tao had just arrived.

Zhao Yang greeted Li Tao when he saw him.

"A Yang! Morning!"

Li Tao greeted Zhao Yang back with a smile on his face.

After spending these days together in the lab, everyone had basically become acquainted.

"By the way, Senior, are those cells of yours still alive?"

Zhao Yang suddenly remembered that Li Tao seemed to be working on an independent research project related to his master's thesis.

"I was just about to check."

Li Tao said to Zhao Yang.

He carefully took out a slide, placed it under the microscope, and stared through the eyepiece.

"Damn! The batch of 293T cells I transfected yesterday are all floating!"

Li Tao let out a string of curses, becoming exceptionally irritable as his composure seemed to crumble.

Hearing Li Tao's words, Zhao Yang was stunned for a moment and quickly walked over to him.

Li Tao had already stepped away from the microscope.

Zhao Yang stared through the microscope for a while. His eyebrows twitched slightly as he turned to look at Li Tao.

"This looks like fungal contamination... Senior, did you forget to turn on the UV lamp yesterday?"

"I turned it on."

Li Tao clearly looked quite irritable at this moment.

"I have to redo it all over again. Sigh!"

"It's okay, no rush. Take it slow, Senior."

Zhao Yang consoled Li Tao.

"Right, we need to sacrifice a batch of mice this morning to extract brain tissue. Go get things ready and then catch a batch of mice!"

Li Tao suddenly remembered something and said to Zhao Yang.

"Sure thing!"

Zhao Yang was generally happy to do these daily lab tasks.

It wasn't because he was a masochist, but mainly because these tasks provided great training opportunities for an intern researcher who had just entered the lab.

Because this was the daily routine of a laboratory.

Currently, the main research in Professor Gu Ming's lab, besides the small projects his students were working on...

...involved Professor Gu Ming himself working on a special type of cellular tissue chip—or perhaps it shouldn't be called a chip—that used cells to transcribe specific information.

The DNA chromosomes inside served as the carrier.

This was the primary research currently being conducted in Professor Gu Ming's lab.

Sacrificing mice to extract brain tissue was also for the sake of this experiment.

Zhao Yang was busy for a while.

Gu Qing and Professor Gu Ming entered the lab almost at the same time.

"Morning, Zhao Yang!"

The moment Gu Qing saw Zhao Yang, she greeted him.

"Morning!"

After Zhao Yang greeted Gu Qing back...

"...Good morning, Professor Gu."

Zhao Yang also greeted Professor Gu Ming.

"So busy first thing in the morning? Good job!"

Professor Gu Ming said to Zhao Yang with a smile.

"It's what I should do!"

The morning experiment soon began.

Because they had to sacrifice mice, Gu Qing's eyes were filled with reluctance. When she saw the bloody scene of a mouse's brain being cut open to extract the tissue...

...Gu Qing felt a wave of nausea. Finally unable to hold it back, she ran outside and began to vomit.

She came back after vomiting.

Professor Gu Ming didn't comfort Gu Qing; his hands remained steady during the procedure.

As he extracted cells from the mouse's brain tissue, his gaze didn't waver in the slightest. He simply said flatly:

"If you can't handle this, you won't be able to study Biology. In biological experiments, this is just entry-level stuff.

If you can't get past this hurdle, you're simply not qualified to study Biology!"

Gu Qing forced herself not to vomit. Watching the mice's brains being cut open and hearing their squeals made her face turn pale.

After a good while, the brain tissue extraction was finished.

The students nearby quickly began placing the cells extracted from the mice's brains into the biosafety cabinet.

They would need to perform specialized cultures on them afterward.

They collected the data and disposed of the mouse carcasses.

By then, Professor Gu Ming was finally free. He turned and looked at Gu Qing with a serious expression.

Gu Qing kept her head down and remained silent.

Professor Gu Ming sighed softly.

"Qingqing, I understand. You're a girl, and this is probably the first time you've seen such a bloody and cruel scene.

It's natural to be afraid or feel nauseous; I can understand all that.

But this is what biological experiments are like. If you can't adapt, you should change your major as soon as possible."

"It's fine, Uncle! I can do it!"

Gu Qing took a deep breath and looked at Professor Gu Ming.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure!"

"I can definitely do it!"
