51: Chapter 51 The counselor came to the dormitory
Zhao Yang spoke to the two of them in an annoyed tone.
"But we want to help him, and he won't let us! So what are we supposed to do?"
Li Tianqi spread his hands.
"We already said we'd treat him to a meal, but he just won't come. We really don't have any other ideas!"
"That's normal."
Zhao Yang sighed softly.
"The more a child from a poor family gets into a top university, the stronger their self-esteem tends to be. In fact, Sun Xu already didn't want to go to our dorm social gathering last night."
"I had to do a lot of talking to get Sun Xu to agree to the dorm social. Now you're offering to treat him to a meal today; of course he won't come."
"So what do we do?"
Wang Mian and Li Tianqi looked at each other.
They were both city kids and still young; they really didn't have any good solutions for this kind of situation.
"Alright, he has his own thoughts. If you really want to help him, don't be too deliberate or obvious."
"Also, if Sun Xu shares local specialties from his hometown with you, don't look down on them—just eat them."
"Don't over-accommodate him."
Zhao Yang thought for a moment.
He could more or less understand Sun Xu's mindset.
In his past life, Zhao Yang's undergraduate dorm was an eight-person room, and at that time, two or three roommates had come to university from the countryside.
These days, rural revitalization policies were still in their infancy, and the vast majority of rural people were quite poor.
After coming to university, they all lived very frugally.
Moreover, because the countryside was relatively isolated in this era, students from rural areas would more or less feel some inferiority when they came to the city.
Zhao Yang had seen many people like Sun Xu.
One could even say Sun Xu was already quite decent.
He was willing to go to the dorm social with them, and even though he felt very uncomfortable seeing the prices on the menu, he didn't spoil the mood; he toughed it out and finished the meal.
Among the rural students Zhao Yang knew, although they were poor, they were all exceptionally principled.
In a situation like that, they would basically choose to just turn around and leave.
Even though Zhao Yang said it was his treat.
Zhao Yang admired Sun Xu; his perspective was already much broader than many poor students from the countryside. This young man just needed to grow.
Therefore, as long as it didn't conflict with his own interests, Zhao Yang was willing to give Sun Xu a helping hand.
"Alright! Don't worry, Brother Yang!"
Li Tianqi patted his chest and said.
"That kid Sun Xu's family circumstances aren't as good as ours, I totally understand! We're all in the same dorm, so we'll definitely make sure to respect him."
Hearing Li Tianqi's words, Zhao Yang nodded.
After finishing their meal.
Zhao Yang bought a bottle of chili sauce at the school supermarket and returned to the dorm with Li Tianqi and the other.
Inside the dormitory.
Sun Xu was eating a cold sweet potato.
Seeing Zhao Yang and the others walk in, Sun Xu immediately turned his back.
"It's okay, Ah Xu. We can't choose our family circumstances. You're being thrifty, and we completely understand! You don't need to hide from us when you eat from now on!"
"Yeah! Brother Xu, if you need help with anything, just tell us directly! We'll help if we can! After all, we're going to live together for four years!"
Li Tianqi and Wang Mian said to Sun Xu.
By the time these two idiots started talking, it was too late for Zhao Yang to stop them.
He could only watch helplessly as these two guys said those things.
Do they have absolutely no emotional intelligence?
Zhao Yang felt a bit helpless.
Forget it, at least they were being sincere. Saying these things wasn't too bad, mainly because Sun Xu's personality wasn't the type to have excessively fragile pride.
If it were someone with excessive pride, these words might even feel like an insult, and that would be troublesome.
Sun Xu sat awkwardly in his seat, looking restless.
By then, Zhao Yang had already walked over to Sun Xu and casually placed the chili sauce on Sun Xu's desk.
"I just bought this chili sauce. Try it and see if it's good. Li Tianqi and Wang Mian didn't mean anything by it."
"Their words were a bit blunt, but they aren't wrong; everyone can see your difficulties."
"If you need help with anything, you can say so at any time, and we'll see how we can help. Poverty isn't a big deal; what matters is not letting it break your spirit."
"In the future, we can help you keep an eye out for on-campus part-time jobs and such. I'll ask the Counselor for you then to see if there are any Work-Study positions on campus."
Zhao Yang said with a smile as he looked at Sun Xu.
Hearing Zhao Yang's words, all the awkwardness on Sun Xu's face turned into gratitude, and his eyes were filled with a thankful light.
Although Li Tianqi and Wang Mian's words were sincere, to be honest, Sun Xu had still felt really awkward.
Because much of what they said was subjective and didn't offer a specific solution.
Many people are like this; to put it bluntly, it's a kind of naivety. No matter how sincere they are, so what? Sun Xu didn't need that kind of comfort; he needed an actual path.
Zhao Yang understood this very well.
"Thank you! Thank you!"
Sun Xu said to Zhao Yang with some excitement.
"It's no big deal. We're all roommates and will be together for four years! There's no need to reject everyone's kindness. If you really mind..."
"...just treat us to something once you've made some money!"
"Okay! Okay!"
Sun Xu said hurriedly.
Zhao Yang smiled and returned to his seat.
Li Tianqi and Wang Mian prepared to take a nap.
Sun Xu continued eating.
Zhao Yang opened his laptop and checked the sales of his online store.
Regarding his online store, Zhao Yang had basically entrusted everything to Wang Ming. He hadn't been stingy with small tricks for operating the store and had taught them all to Wang Ming.
Wang Ming was doing quite well!
Zhao Yang was willing to help out a childhood friend like him; he worked hard and wasn't greedy.
After checking the online store, Zhao Yang logged into his online bank on the computer and entered the account information Li Yan had sent him.
Zhao Yang transferred fifty thousand yuan to this account and added a specific note: "Lent Li Yan fifty thousand yuan in full."
Borrowing money is borrowing money; Zhao Yang wouldn't have any extra personal feelings about it.
If Li Yan dared not to pay him back, Zhao Yang would definitely dare to demand repayment directly.
After finishing these operations, Zhao Yang continued reading.
Right now, he wasn't far from completing his system task, so naturally, he had to accumulate enough Value Points as quickly as possible to finish the 1,000-point task.
This task had taken up too much of Zhao Yang's energy; he hoped it would be worth it!
Around four or five in the afternoon, Zhao Yang took his roommates to the track to run laps.
By the time they returned to the dorm, it was almost seven in the evening.
Everyone took turns showering, and then they came out.
"Counselor?"
Seeing Li Yan standing at the door, Li Tianqi was slightly stunned and called out in surprise.
