142: Chapter 142 Gale and Insect Swarm

Xia Jin and the other two were transported to a corner of the ancient battlefield almost simultaneously.

However, before they could even see their surroundings clearly, a sharp whistling sound suddenly swept in from all directions!

Only then did they finally see clearly that in the surrounding space, countless wind blades were frantically cutting through everything.

"Be careful! It's the gale winds left behind in the ancient battlefield!" Venerable Miaodi felt his skin prickle slightly, his expression changing as he let out a low shout.

"Venerable!" The Grey-robed Swordsman's expression also changed as he looked toward Venerable Miaodi.

Venerable Miaodi did not hesitate; he pressed his palms together, and a golden Buddha silhouette several zhang high appeared out of thin air, firmly enveloping the three of them.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!!"

Countless gale winds struck the golden Buddha silhouette, erupting in a continuous sound of metal clashing.

One could even see sparks flying from the countless impacts!

"Not bad, old monk!" Xia Jin glanced at the golden Buddha silhouette above his head, feeling slightly surprised; this thing's defense was actually quite good.

"No wonder they say that surviving three days in this ancient battlefield qualifies one to join the God Realm. This difficulty... is indeed not small." Venerable Miaodi looked at the omnipresent gale winds, his expression grim.

"We must find a place to shelter from the wind as soon as possible, otherwise, if we stay here for too long, I'm afraid my Buddha Light Golden Body will not be able to hold out for more than an hour."

"It's just some gale winds, what is there to fear?" Unlike the others' solemn expressions, Xia Jin showed no fear, walking straight towards the area outside the Buddha silhouette's protection!

"Benefactor, don't! An ordinary Physical Body cannot withstand the gale winds outside... If..." Seeing Xia Jin's actions, Venerable Miaodi hurriedly tried to dissuade him, but unfortunately, he was too late.

Xia Jin stepped out of the range of the Buddha light, and those omnipresent gale winds frantically slammed into his Physical Body!

However, the scene of blood and flesh flying, which Venerable Miaodi had anticipated, did not occur.

Only a series of dense, crisp sounds were heard; those gale winds, upon hitting Xia Jin's body, were like striking meteorite iron, shattering instantly!

"Vajra Indestructible Body!" Indeed, a faint layer of golden light appeared on the surface of Xia Jin's body, easily withstanding the gale winds that had made both Venerable Miaodi and the Grey-robed Swordsman feel apprehensive.

"How is this possible? This guy can actually use his Physical Body to withstand these gale winds?" Both Venerable Miaodi and the Grey-robed Swordsman wore expressions of shock.

They knew Xia Jin's strength was not trivial, but they had still underestimated him.

"Hey, I'm talking to you two, what are you still standing there for?" Xia Jin, having walked a few steps forward, suddenly turned his head and said to Venerable Miaodi and the other, "Follow me closely, and let's leave this gale winds area first."

As he spoke, he identified a direction and walked straight ahead.

Wherever he passed, the gale winds automatically dissipated a few feet away from him, as if making an invisible path for him. Venerable Miaodi and the Grey-robed Swordsman exchanged a glance and followed closely behind Xia Jin. With Xia Jin opening the path, their pressure was greatly reduced, and they only needed to deal with the sporadic wind blades that leaked through.

The three of them traveled for about half a stick of incense's time before they noticed that the raging gale winds around them seemed to be gradually weakening.

"We've finally left that area!" The Grey-robed Swordsman couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief, but his expression changed quickly. "Look over there!"

Xia Jin and Venerable Miaodi looked in the direction he pointed, and saw in the distance, a dark, heavy cloud hugging the ground, spreading toward their direction at an astonishing speed!

As the distance closed, the three finally saw the true face of the black cloud—it was an insect swarm formed by countless black beetles the size of fingernails!

Wherever that black cloud passed, the remains of the skeletons on the ground were devoured at a speed visible to the naked eye, leaving not even a scrap behind!

"Black-armored Corpse Beetles!? There is such a huge number of Black-armored Corpse Beetles here?" Venerable Miaodi recognized the origin of the beetles in the distance at a glance, his calm expression becoming very ugly.

"Ancient records state that these insects are born in extremely Yin places, feeding on the remains of all things. Their carapaces are hard, immune to water and fire, and they exist in the hundreds of millions. If they attack in a swarm, even a powerhouse in the Tongshen Realm, if caught in it without special means, would find it hard to escape being devoured!"

The Grey-robed Swordsman looked into the distance, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. He snorted coldly: "So what if there are many of them? Let's test if my sword is sharp!"

He unwrapped the long object wrapped in rags from his arms, revealing a rusty iron sword inside.

A sword cry rang out.

The Grey-robed Swordsman drew, swung, and sheathed his sword in one fluid motion, so fast that only an afterimage remained.

A thin sword light bloomed quietly from before him, sweeping forward silently.

Wherever the sword light passed, space seemed to be sliced open with a tiny crack.

The next moment, the surging, tens-of-zhang-thick swarm of Black-armored Corpse Beetles was actually split right down the middle by this seemingly unremarkable grey sword light, creating a "vacuum" zone a hundred zhang long and several meters wide!

Countless Black-armored Corpse Beetles turned into dust under this one strike, drifting down slowly!

A look of surprise flashed in Xia Jin's eyes. Having been exposed to the Legacy of the Green Lotus Sword Immortal, he had a very high standard and could naturally see the extraordinariness of the Grey-robed Swordsman's strike.

"Mere Black-armored Corpse Beetles, so what if there are many of them?" A trace of disdain flashed across the Grey-robed Swordsman's face, but it quickly vanished.

Because the vacuum zone that had been cut open only lasted for an instant. The boundless Black-armored Corpse Beetles on both sides immediately surged frantically to fill it, and that gap was submerged again in the blink of an eye.

The swarm destroyed by this strike was merely a drop in the ocean for the entire insect swarm!

"They can't be killed off." Xia Jin frowned slightly and quickly made a judgment. "Entangling with them here is a waste of energy. Let's avoid their edge first!"

After speaking, he clenched his right fist, the muscles on his arm bulging slightly, and slammed a punch into the iron-grey ground beneath his feet!

"Boom!!"

A loud noise exploded. With Xia Jin as the center, the ground, which was as hard as refined iron, shook violently, as if causing an earthquake!

Xia Jin did not use his full strength in this punch, but the power erupted was already terrifying. The ground was smashed into a pit with a diameter of tens of meters and a depth of several meters.

"This ground is indeed hard. If it were in the outside world, with this punch of mine, I'm afraid the hole smashed out would be bottomless."

"Go, hurry down!" Xia Jin glanced at Venerable Miaodi and the other, shouted in a low voice, and jumped into the pit first.

Venerable Miaodi and the Grey-robed Swordsman did not hesitate at all and flew down together.

A few breaths later, that hair-raising "rustling" sound reached above Xia Jin and the others, growing louder and louder, until in the end, it forced them to cover their ears involuntarily!

As the insect swarm composed of countless Black-armored Corpse Beetles flew over, the already dim sky turned completely dark, making it impossible to see one's fingers.

The number of this insect swarm was truly too vast; it lasted for a full quarter of an hour before that terrifying "rustling" sound gradually faded away.

The Grey-robed Swordsman's expression turned somewhat ugly: "It seems that surviving three days in this ancient battlefield is really not easy... I wonder what else we will encounter later."

Venerable Miaodi looked at Xia Jin at this moment: "Benefactor, what do you plan to do next?"

He had a vague premonition that perhaps by following Xia Jin, they would have hope of surviving these three days.
