Chapter 219: Romanée-Conti

"Manager, bring another serving of the dishes ordered by that table over here, and put it on my tab."

Zheng Qian extended his arm and snapped his fingers crisply above his head.

"Right away!"

Upon hearing this, the manager immediately arranged for the kitchen to prepare it.

Zhang Jian: ???

What the hell.

Showing off right in his face?

Trying to act all high and mighty here, huh?

Zhang Jian glanced at Lu Shanshan and noticed her expression was quite strange; she looked at Zheng Qian with deep admiration, her eyes practically sparkling.

The dishes he ordered weren't cheap either; just two servings of Beef Wellington cost over fifty thousand—that's a new iPhone in every bite.

And yet, Lu Shanshan didn't even blink an eye.

Zheng Qian just had the restaurant serve another portion, and she's already this impressed?

Is this a joke?

Damn it!

Zheng Qian managed to show off!

Zhang Jian couldn't stand it.

After sitting down, he also snapped his fingers.

The manager hurried over eagerly.

"I just saw a bottle of Romanée-Conti on your menu; bring me one. Also, put the re-served dishes and that bottle of wine on a separate bill from his!"

"I want to present this bottle of Romanée-Conti to this charming Miss Lu."

After saying this, Zhang Jian wore a smug expression.

What's a few dishes?

A single bottle of wine costs him 200,000!

He was going all out tonight. In order to embarrass Zheng Qian and save face in front of Lu Shanshan, he ordered such an expensive bottle of wine.

Zhang Jian even specifically added that he didn't need to be on the same bill as Zheng Qian.

The manager glanced at Zheng Qian, his face completely expressionless.

He had assumed it was Zheng Qian calling him, but it turned out to be Zhang Jian.

Then why are you acting all high and mighty, copying people by snapping your fingers?

"I'm sorry, sir. If you require a separate bill from this gentleman, we cannot serve you the Romanée-Conti."

"Huh? Why?" Zhang Jian was a bit confused.

He had just seen Zheng Qian scolding the waiter, but hadn't known why.

The reason was this very bottle of Romanée-Conti.

"Because Romanée-Conti is extremely rare, our supply is limited, and it is only provided to our VIP customers."

"However, given that you are this gentleman's friend, we can make an exception and serve you a bottle."

"No, no, no, don't misunderstand. We aren't friends. Sharing a table is one thing, but let's keep the bills separate." Zheng Qian had no desire to be associated with someone like him.

"Then there's nothing I can do. I'm truly sorry, sir." The manager shook his head silently.

Zhang Jian's face showed an expression of disbelief.

He wants to order Romanée-Conti, and he has to rely on Zheng Qian's status and favors to do it?

Fuck!

Where is the logic in this?

"How do I become your VIP?"

"You need a minimum deposit of 100,000."

100,000? Why don't you just go rob someone!

Zhang Jian knew this was Gordon Ramsay's restaurant, but his monthly salary plus allowance was only 500,000.

Compared to other wealthy second-generation heirs, it was pitifully low, and it couldn't sustain such extravagant spending.

"Then forget it. Unbelievable. It's infuriating to have money and not be able to spend it."

Zhang Jian spread his hands in frustration.

Not long after, the manager walked over again.

Holding a bottle of Romanée-Conti in his hand.

"Sir, the wine has been decanted for you."

"Hey, are you asking for trouble? Didn't I say I didn't want it? Why did you bring it over?"

"Whatever, just put it here."

The manager didn't know what to say.

He felt so embarrassed for Zhang Jian that he could dig a three-bedroom apartment with his toes.

"I'm sorry, but this bottle of wine was ordered by this gentleman, not for you."

Not only Zhang Jian, but even Lu Shanshan's face turned bright red.

She felt embarrassed for Zhang Jian.

Is there any need to show off in front of others?

This is Zheng Qian!

The chairman of Qianhe Group!

With a net worth of billions!

Although Zhang Jian was the general manager of Kangming Shipping, it was only a nominal title; he held no real power. All power was in the hands of his father, Zhang Lekang, and had nothing to do with him.

It was rumored that he had pestered Zhang Lekang shamelessly to get this general manager position.

Her mother had arranged for her to meet Zhang Jian to curry favor with him, hoping he would put in a good word for them with Zhang Lekang.

Relying solely on the fact that her mother and Zhang Lekang had been classmates, it would be impossible to persuade Kangming Shipping to invest 20 million in them.

They hadn't seen each other in over a decade; asking for 20 million right off the bat was impossible.

It was necessary to go through Zhang Jian.

But Lu Shanshan didn't see it that way.

She felt that since things had reached this point and Zheng Qian hadn't withdrawn his investment, they should make good use of the funding.

Using Zheng Qian's money to resolve their immediate crisis and then finding Kangming Shipping to take over, effectively snatching back control and shares, felt a bit like burning bridges. It didn't seem right.

But Zhao Ying had told her that in the business world, it was kill or be killed; there wasn't much room for sentimentality.

That was why she had forced her to meet Zhang Jian. If things went well and the two families became in-laws, Zhang Lekang would be willing to invest not just 20 million, but 200 million.

It was just that Zhang Jian looked like a monkey, and she had absolutely no interest in him.

He was far worse than Tang Xingyu, let alone compared to Zheng Qian.

He had just sat down and was already trying to compete with others and embarrass them; such a person was truly frivolous.

Lu Shanshan was completely unimpressed.

"Zheng Qian, I feel I need to explain. Actually, he and I have only met a few times. Please, don't misunderstand."

Song Yaxian: ???

Zhang Jian: ???

Zheng Qian: ???

None of the three had expected Lu Shanshan to say something like that.

What did she mean by that?

It was clearly an attempt to distance herself from Zhang Jian!

Song Yaxian snuck a glance at Lu Shanshan.

She hadn't expected this woman to be so calculating.

As soon as she saw Zheng Qian, she dumped her current date.

That remark earlier about being Zheng Qian's girlfriend must have been a deliberate attempt to test the relationship between her and Zheng Qian, right?

In Song Yaxian's eyes, Lu Shanshan was a bit of a green tea.

Zheng Qian was even more at a loss for words.

"Uh… you don't need to tell me this. Who you have dinner with is your business; it has nothing to do with me. Why are you explaining this to me?"

Zheng Qian looked calm and composed.

Zhang Jian, on the other hand, was incredibly annoyed.

It felt as if thousands of horses were galloping through his heart.

Zhang Jian had pursued Lu Shanshan repeatedly without any response; it was truly a case of throwing himself at someone who didn't care.

He had met with Lu Shanshan several times, but hadn't even managed to touch her hand.

The last time they were at a restaurant, Lu Shanshan had clearly stated that there was no possibility between them.

But no matter how stubborn Lu Shanshan was, she couldn't be more stubborn than her mother.

Zhao Ying had already given her word: if he could persuade his father to invest 20 million, she would marry her daughter off to him.

In other words, Lu Shanshan's marriage was still up to Zhao Ying; there was no doubt about that.

Lu Shanshan being so eager to distance herself from him now made Zhang Jian feel humiliated and lose face in front of everyone.

Dammit, she doesn't want that 20 million, huh?

But seeing that Lu Shanshan's heart definitely wasn't with him, Zhang Jian gave up on the idea of marrying her.

He changed his mind.

If they weren't getting married, so be it.

As long as he could take Lu Shanshan back to the hotel and pin her to the bed to teach her a lesson, it would be worth it!

It was only 20 million, right? If he just asked his father, he would definitely give it to him.

"Mm-hmm, I was just afraid you'd misunderstand."

Lu Shanshan had her own reasons for doing this.

She wasn't afraid of how others viewed her.

From the previous donation to the subsequent funding, Lu Shanshan believed that Zheng Qian still had some feelings for her.

If she upset Zheng Qian, he would definitely withdraw his investment in a heartbeat.

Then her mother would definitely force her to develop a relationship with Zhang Jian again, which was an outcome she didn't want to see.

This was much better.

Zheng Qian might want something from her, but at least he wasn't as sleazy as Zhang Jian. She felt sick just looking at Zhang Jian.
