157: Brothers in distress
The events of that day still made his heart tremble whenever he thought about them.
He had taken this Young Man to find Brother Scar, but after leaving for just a few minutes, the scene he saw upon returning still made him shudder even now—
The office was in complete disarray, with Brother Scar and several of his brothers lying on the floor in heaps, wailing. Two people had arms bent at bizarre angles, and several ribs were broken.
And all of this had happened in just a few short minutes.
Chen Li looked up and felt the person looked familiar, but for a moment, he couldn't place him.
But the other party's terrified appearance, with cold sweat pouring down, made him suddenly realize—wasn't this the tattooed man who had originally taken him to find Scar?
A faint, almost imperceptible smile crossed the corner of his mouth.
The tattooed man quickly stopped the eager underlings behind him—could he really not stop them?
Even if his men were good fighters, could they be more formidable than Brother Scar's gang of professional thugs?
He had to remember that he had only left for a few minutes before, and when he returned, he saw Brother Scar and his men all lying flat.
The person in front of him was a ruthless character who had wiped out a whole room of people in two or three minutes. If he took these few underlings up against him, they probably wouldn't last a minute; it would be purely delivering themselves to be beaten.
"Hehe... Brother, do... do you have any instructions?"
The tattooed man hurriedly stepped forward, his waist unconsciously bending a few degrees, his face full of fawning smiles.
When these words came out, everyone except Chen Li was stunned.
Zhong Hao and Liu Zhao exchanged an incredulous look, the girls covered their mouths in surprise, and the two girls who had been harassed also ran behind Chen Li and the others.
The underlings behind the tattooed man were all dumbfounded.
They had never seen the arrogant and domineering Brother Mao be so subservient to anyone, let alone call a student-looking Young Man 'Brother'.
This sudden reversal left everyone confused.
Chen Li coldly swept a glance at the tattooed man: "Your business scope is quite broad, you don't even spare girls at The Beach."
"It's a misunderstanding, Brother!" The tattooed man hurriedly apologized with a smile, his forehead covered in cold sweat.
"We were just joking with these two little sisters, we really didn't intend to do anything..."
As he spoke, he secretly observed Chen Li's expression, terrified of accidentally angering this menace.
Chen Li turned to the two shaken girls: "They didn't do anything to you, did they?"
"N-no, it's okay..." one of the girls answered in a low voice, her voice still trembling.
They had originally just wanted to find a quiet beach to take a walk, who knew they would run into this group of hooligans.
Seeing that nothing more serious had actually happened, Chen Li did not intend to pursue it further.
He was not someone who liked to abuse violence, unless the other party truly crossed his bottom line.
"Brother, we really just took advantage verbally, we definitely didn't lay a hand on them!"
The tattooed man hurriedly guaranteed again, he just wanted to escape unscathed now, he didn't want to end up with broken bones like Scar and lie in the Hospital for a few months.
"Don't let me see you bullying girls again, otherwise next time it won't be this simple. Get lost."
"Yes, yes... we're rolling..."
The tattooed man, as if granted amnesty, hurriedly took his few underlings and fled in a panic towards the graveyard, disappearing into the darkness before long.
Only then did Zhong Hao and the others recover from their shock.
Zhong Hao was the first to rush up and wrap his arm around Chen Li's shoulder, his tone excited: "A Li, what on earth did you do? Why are they so afraid of you?"
Liu Zhao also leaned in, looking excited and curious: "Hurry up and confess, what is going on here?"
Under the curious gazes of everyone, Chen Li had to simply explain: "Brother Hao, do you remember when I asked you about Scar before?"
"Of course I remember, that day I was worried you would go find trouble with them..."
Zhong Hao stopped halfway, as if thinking of something, his eyes suddenly widened, "Could it be that you..."
"That's right, I took down their lair that day and dealt with Scar and his brothers."
He tilted his chin toward the direction where the tattooed man had disappeared: "That tattooed guy just now was the one who took me to find Scar at that time."
These words made everyone gasp.
Zhong Hao kept his mouth open, and only managed to squeeze out a sentence after a long while: "Holy crap, you took down Scar's whole gang by yourself?"
The few girls listening to the conversation between Chen Li and the other two also understood the cause and effect.
Yu Lulu leaned closer to Liu Nansheng, her bright eyes constantly glancing toward Chen Li,
in her eyes, besides surprise and curiosity, there was quietly a bit more of an unhidden admiration; Chen Li was not just wealthy after all.
The two girls who had just been rescued also recovered, one of them timidly stepped forward half a step,
her voice soft yet sincere: "Just now... thank you all so much."
"It's okay now, let's go back together." Liu Nansheng stepped forward and softly comforted the two shaken girls.
They didn't look very old, about the age of High School students, and at this moment finally breathed a sigh of relief, nodding gratefully.
At this moment, mobile phones rang with notification sounds one after another, and the class monitor Li Wei sent several messages in the group: "The barbecue has started, those playing outside, hurry over if you want to eat—"
Although everyone had not long finished dinner, after playing around at The Beach, it seemed that smelling the aroma of grilled meat wafting with the sea breeze, they couldn't help but swallow their saliva.
The group walked back along the path they came, leaving strings of footprints on The Beach.
From afar, they could see the barbecue area brightly lit, with many classmates gathered around several grills, laughter and chatter wafting with the sea breeze.
When Chen Li and Liu Nansheng's group appeared in the barbecue area, almost everyone's gaze turned toward them simultaneously.
This was no wonder—Liu Nansheng and Yu Lulu seemed to carry their own halos, just like two moving scenic lines; it was hard not to attract attention.
They linked arms and retreated to a less crowded place to the side, waiting for the boys to get food.
Several enthusiastic classmates held up freshly grilled chicken wings and corn to offer them, but they were politely and smilingly declined by both—the two's gazes always followed the busy figure in front of the grill.
Chen Li carefully turned the meat skewers in his hands, and when the heat was just right, he picked out a few of the most tender beef skewers and handed them to Liu Nansheng: "This is grilled just right, try it."
On the other side, Zhong Hao also returned with a plate piled into a small mountain, first handing it to his girlfriend He Min, and then smilingly sharing a portion with his sister-in-law Yu Lulu.
Liu Zhao took the remaining Fang Fang and another girl directly to the grill to pick the freshly made delicacies.
However, they did not notice that in two different corners of the barbecue area, two gazes were staring fixedly at them—
Chen Shimei and Zhong Lili simultaneously gripped the beverage cups in their hands tightly, the flames of jealousy almost erupting from their eyes.
This pair of 'Companions in Misery' could be said to have had everything go wrong today.
From the moment they met Chen Li, everything had gone wrong for them, and everything had fallen through.
At this moment, watching Chen Li surrounded by everyone and still being so close to Liu Nansheng, the two felt as if a jar of mixed emotions had been overturned in their hearts, an indescribable sourness and depression.
Chen Shimei took a fierce bite of the grilled sausage in his hand, his back teeth clacking—laugh, go ahead and laugh, there will be a time for you to cry later...
