19: Chapter 19 The show is getting better and better!

Carrying those piping hot report materials, Lin Yuan followed Wei Jiancheng into an official car bound for the Xia Academy of Sciences.

Inside the car, Wei Jiancheng was restless.

His fingers tapped unconsciously on the kraft paper cover of the document folder in a rapid rhythm, betraying his inner turmoil.

Lin Yuan saw this and chuckled inwardly.

The vehicle soon arrived at the solemn main office building.

The moment the car door came to a halt, Wei Jiancheng was the first to rush out; his impatient energy even left the driver dazed.

Without looking back, he strode up the steps.

Lin Yuan followed behind at a leisurely pace.

As the two walked through the quiet corridor, Wei Jiancheng stared straight ahead, and the staff they encountered along the way instinctively made way for him.

Soon, they arrived before a heavy wooden door.

Knock, knock, knock.

Without the slightest hesitation, Wei Jiancheng rapped three times heavily with his knuckles.

A gentle and steady response came from inside.

"Come in."

Wei Jiancheng pushed the door open and strode inside.

Lin Yuan followed closely behind.

The light in the office was soft; Chen Jingshan was sitting behind his desk, holding a document.

Luo Yang was standing in front of the desk, reporting something.

Seeing the door being pushed open, both of them turned their heads.

Chen Jingshan set down his document, leaned back into his large chair, and looked Wei Jiancheng up and down as he barged in.

"Old Wei, you're here!"

"What's the matter? Why the rush?"

His tone was relaxed, even carrying a hint of teasing.

"You even called me specifically, saying there was something of monumental importance to report immediately."

"I haven't even had time to brew the tea, and yet you've already arrived."

As he spoke, his gaze fell upon Lin Yuan behind Wei Jiancheng. With his smile undiminished, he gave a gentle nod.

Seeing this situation, Luo Yang also closed the document in his hand.

"Dean, I'll go check the procedures for the Academy Council Meeting first and report back to you later."

Chen Jingshan nodded.

"Go ahead."

Luo Yang bowed slightly, gathered his materials, and exited the office efficiently, closing the door behind him.

The soft click of the door closing was exceptionally clear in the quiet room.

Only three people remained in the large office.

"Well, tell me, what's this big news?"

"That even you, such a busy man, would actually leave your laboratory."

Chen Jingshan made a gesture of invitation, indicating for them to sit on the sofas in the guest area.

Wei Jiancheng didn't move.

He stood where he was, his urgency completely uncontrollable.

"Dean, this really is a matter of monumental importance!"

Seeing him like this, Chen Jingshan, on the contrary, was no longer in a hurry.

He stood up unhurriedly, walked to the guest area, and personally lifted the teapot to fill the empty cups.

"No matter how big it is, we must sit down and talk."

He pushed a cup of tea onto the coffee table in front of Wei Jiancheng, then looked at Lin Yuan again, the smile on his face deepening.

"Especially in front of the youngest Youth Researcher in the history of our Xia Academy of Sciences, you, as an old comrade, should be a bit more composed."

Saying this, he looked at Wei Jiancheng and teased:

"How is it, Old Wei? Are you satisfied with this 'great gift' I sent over?"

"I still remember someone shouting yesterday about wanting to return him to me."

At these words, Wei Jiancheng's face, already flushed with excitement, suddenly turned a bit awkward.

He coughed twice and took a large gulp of tea; even the scalding liquid couldn't extinguish the fire in his heart.

"Ahem! Old Chen, stop making fun of me!"

"It was my lack of foresight; I stand corrected!"

With these words, the slightly tense atmosphere in the office instantly relaxed.

Chen Jingshan shook his head with a laugh and personally pushed another cup of tea in front of Lin Yuan.

"You really need to change that stubborn temper of yours."

He put the teapot back on the table and sat down again, his gaze moving between Wei Jiancheng and Lin Yuan before finally settling on Wei Jiancheng's still somewhat embarrassed face.

"So tell me, what is this monumental matter that brought you here in such a frantic rush?"

"Could it be that Comrade Lin Yuan has given you some sort of difficult problem?"

These words sounded like a joke, but they also hid a bit of a probe.

Hearing this, Lin Yuan took over the conversation with a smile and a humble posture.

"The Dean is joking. How would I dare to give Director Wei a hard time?"

"Oh?"

Chen Jingshan leaned forward slightly, his fingers interlaced on his knees, looking at him with great interest.

"You just joined yesterday and already proposed a theory that overthrows all past research."

"Not only that, but last night's news has caused quite a stir outside, drawing the eyes of the entire world."

"Is that not a difficult situation?"

Wei Jiancheng looked completely bewildered upon hearing this.

"What news? What entire world?"

From yesterday until now, he and the entire team had locked themselves in the laboratory, isolated from the world. Forget watching the news—they hadn't even touched their phones.

But he couldn't be bothered with that.

Wei Jiancheng waved his hand, directly interrupting Chen Jingshan's teasing.

"I don't care about what's in the news outside!"

"I only care about one thing!"

He pulled the report materials directly from his document folder and slapped them onto the coffee table.

"Comrade Lin Yuan didn't give me a difficult problem!"

"On the contrary!"

"He solved the problem!"

"Solved it?"

Chen Jingshan's hand, holding the teacup, froze mid-air.

His tone was light, but Lin Yuan noticed the old Dean's body, which had been leaning against the back of the chair, instinctively straightened up a bit.

Lin Yuan spoke up at the right moment, his phrasing very humble.

"It's not exactly a solution; I just organized some theoretical materials and gave them to Director Wei and the others for reference."

"Some theoretical materials?"

Upon hearing this, Wei Jiancheng's voice instantly rose.

"Old Chen, don't listen to this young man's blind modesty!"

He pointed at the thick document folder and said with full vigor.

"These materials of his are not as simple as 'some'!"

"The content inside would take us three to five years to figure out on our own!"

“Today, I organized the core members of the institute and spent the entire day verifying it! Only then did we manage to reverse-calculate all the formulas and models inside!"

"This is the verification report we produced. Take a look!"

Wei Jiancheng pushed the report toward Chen Jingshan's hand.

The smile on Chen Jingshan's face vanished. He sat up straight and picked up the report.

He opened the first page.

On it was the abstract of the entire report, concisely summarizing the feasibility of the "Steady-state Micro-focused Light Source" theory and its disruptive advantages over existing technological routes.

The relaxation on Chen Jingshan's face completely vanished.

He turned to the second page, then the third...

The only sound left in the office was the "rustle" of pages turning.

Wei Jiancheng stood to the side, his chest heaving.

He wanted to say something, to provide further explanation for some brilliant inference in the report, but seeing Chen Jingshan's state of complete concentration, he swallowed his words.

Lin Yuan leisurely picked up his teacup, his fingertips gently rubbing the warm porcelain. He took in the loss of composure from these two giants of the Xia scientific community, a barely perceptible smile appearing on his face.

This show is just getting good.

Minutes and seconds passed.

The speed at which Chen Jingshan turned the pages became slower and slower.

From skimming at first, he eventually began to linger on certain pages for a long time, his finger gently tracing a complex formula, his brow relaxing one moment and furrowing the next.

That was no longer just reading.

It was deduction, verification—a high-speed storm raging within his mind.

Finally, Chen Jingshan turned to the last page.

He closed the report but did not put it down. Instead, he closed his eyes and leaned deep into the back of his chair.

It was a long time before he opened his eyes again.

In those eyes, all emotions had faded, leaving only a light that was terrifyingly bright.

Then, his gaze bypassed the agitated Wei Jiancheng and, for the first time, pierced straight toward Lin Yuan with such formality and sharpness.

"Comrade Lin Yuan!"

"You have truly given me a massive surprise!"
