... "Clatter-clatter, clatter-clatter—"

"Toot—"

Under the pitch-black night, an old-fashioned steam train roared like a giant dragon, galloping across the vast wilderness.

A long, dim light shot out from the front of the train, and its massive chimney spewed out huge amounts of thick smoke.

As it traveled, the steel wheels violently collided with the uneven ground.

With each impact, the carriages trembled violently.

The creaking sound of twisting steel occasionally echoed, as if it could fall apart at any moment.

Yet, it was forcibly held together by an invisible large hand.

Amidst the rolling smoke, it sped into the distance...

Inside the dimly lit train's cab.

Lu Yang leaned back in his chair.

He held a cigarette between two fingers.

Gazing at the green dot on the radar that was getting closer and closer, he exhaled a long smoke ring, then extinguished the cigarette.

He then pressed the red button on the control panel.

A dim panel appeared before him.

Train Name: Xinhuo Train

Train Level: 1

Train Components: Mechanical Heart (Unique, Non-Upgradable), Resource Detection Radar Level 1, Coarse Bread Slice Production Machine Level 1, Purified Water Filter Level 1, Repeating Ballista Level 1, Flintlock Rifle Production Line Level 1, Pickaxe Production Line Level 1, Axe Production Line Level 1.

Number of Carriages: 3

Resource Units: Iron Mine 132 units, Wood 86 units.

Upgrade Conditions: Number of carriages reaches 5, 8 basic vehicle components completed, 3000 units of Iron Mine.

No one knew that just three days ago, Lu Yang was merely an ordinary office worker on Blue Star.

He woke up to find himself transmigrated into this apocalyptic, fallen world that had lost all order.

City ruins were everywhere.

Natural disasters, zombie hordes, and anomalies were ubiquitous.

Even the fundamental laws of the world had changed.

In this world,

No matter what monster was killed, there was a chance to drop a special item called a 'Train Token'.

Survivors couldn't live in settlements; they could only barely survive on mobile trains summoned by 'Train Tokens'.

They fled from the omnipresent dangers.

When Lu Yang first transmigrated, his predecessor was a slave on a Level 2 Train. That train was already capable of producing heavy machine guns, a powerful weapon, and had several hundred slaves on board.

There were also dozens of enforcers.

The hierarchy was strict, like a small kingdom.

However, because it hadn't built a psionic shield,

When passing through the edge of the Eternal Night Zone, a Level 2 Specter infiltrated the carriages.

By the time the Train Captain discovered it, hundreds of slaves in the last three carriages had already been slaughtered in their sleep.

To prevent the Specter from spreading to the front carriages,

The Train Captain cut his losses, directly detaching the fourth-to-last carriage, which hadn't yet been invaded by the Specter.

Nearly a hundred living slaves, including Lu Yang, were thus abandoned alive.

Lu Yang was the first to notice something was wrong. While the Specter was harvesting others, he opened the carriage door and escaped into the wilderness.

After enduring countless hardships, he luckily found a Train Token under a dead zombie in the wilderness and fortunately became the Train Captain of a Level 1 Train.

If that were all,

Lu Yang probably wouldn't have escaped the Eternal Night Zone.

Fortunately, when Lu Yang became the Train Captain, his golden finger, the Strongest Train Captain System, also awakened.

It loaded him with the unique-grade vehicle component, Mechanical Heart, giving his train the ability to devour other train wrecks to recover resources.

After the Specter left, Lu Yang drove the train, which only had a locomotive, back to the escape site and devoured four train wrecks, obtaining over a thousand units of Iron Mine as initial resources.

This allowed him to build the Coarse Bread Slice Production Machine and the Purified Water Filter, two essential basic vehicle components for survival.

Immediately after, he gathered some escaping slave survivors and led them out of the Eternal Night Zone.

Along the way, he also mined several scattered resource points.

He successively built several other vehicle components.

Now, they were heading to a newly discovered small Iron Mine collection point on the resource exploration radar.

If they were lucky, such small Iron Mine collection points could yield several thousand units of Iron Mine, greatly alleviating the resource shortage on the train.

In this world, Iron Mine, scientifically known as Demon Iron Ore (a mineral that resembles iron ore but possesses special energy) (also known as Energy Crystals), is an indispensable basic resource for train operation. (Hereafter, all will be referred to simply as Iron Mine)

The Level 1 Train engine requires Iron Mine (Energy Crystals) to run; the Coarse Bread Slice Production Machine requires Iron Mine (Energy Crystals) to produce coarse bread; the Purified Water Filter requires Iron Mine (Energy Crystals) to produce drinking water; building new carriages requires Iron Mine (Energy Crystals).

Iron Mine (Energy Crystals) has become the most important resource in the underlying operating logic of this world; everything is inseparable from Iron Mine (Energy Crystals). (PS: This is a semi-datafied, magic-modified world. I won't repeat it later. Demon Iron Ore is Energy Crystals, the basic resource for all construction.)

Two hours later.

The sky was faintly bright.

Seeing that the resource point was imminent,

Lu Yang opened his walkie-talkie and called out, "Yang Kui, wake everyone up. It's time to get to work."

Yang Kui was Lu Yang's newly appointed enforcer captain.

Or rather, Train Police Squad Captain.

In the train's inherent hierarchy, there were only four ranks: Train Captain, Vice Train Captain, Enforcer, and Slave (the Train Captain could customize and expand these).

The Train Captain possessed supreme authority on the train.

He was the king of the train.

Any item produced on this train could not harm the Train Captain.

Without the Train Captain, the train could not operate.

Only the Train Captain had the right to start the train.

The permissions of other members were all authorized by the Train Captain.

Lu Yang, having transmigrated, had not yet been disheartened by the world's disordered state and still held hope for a civilized world. He disliked the term "enforcer," which sounded like a gang member, so he renamed enforcers to Train Police. Slaves were renamed passengers.

This was both an acknowledgment of their identities and an indirect statement of his difference from the previous Amethyst Train Captain.

He would not treat slaves as subhuman, wantonly disregarding lives, as the Amethyst Train had.

But he also wouldn't be blindly merciful, trying to save everyone.

When sacrifice was needed, he would not be soft-hearted.

However, under permissible conditions, as long as the passengers worked diligently for the train,

Lu Yang would not deliberately mistreat them.

And he would do his best to ensure basic survival supplies sufficient for their livelihood.

Of course, disobedient ones were an exception!!

There was no mercy in the apocalypse; for those who dared to make mistakes, there was only one outcome left for them.

That was death!!
