34: Refining Medicine
“Those are all Demon Materials. Some Materials need to be active, and freezing can preserve their activity.”
Teacher Yan watched Qin Yue search for medicinal herbs. As he took out each one, he inspected it and answered Qin Yue’s questions.
“Then, Teacher Yan, why is it so cold in there, and what is the principle?”
“That was made by a Martial Artist above the Divine Intent Realm, using Demon Materials.
You don’t need to ask what is above the Divine Intent Realm; even I, your teacher, don’t know. When you Cultivate to the Divine Intent Realm, you will know.”
Teacher Yan seemed to know that Qin Yue was about to ask more questions and cut him off in advance, making Qin Yue swallow his questions.
After selecting the medicinal herbs in the first Storage Room, Teacher Yan took Qin Yue to Storage Room B.
With Teacher Yan accompanying him, Qin Yue felt much more at ease. He didn't have to worry about the door not opening from the inside after entering, nor did he have to worry about committing any taboos.
The scene in the Storage Room was not as horrifying as Qin Yue had imagined. In his imagination, the Storage Room should have had whole Demon corpses arranged on shelves, with the dead eyes of Demons staring at the entrance.
As it turned out, it was similar to the first Storage Room, with processed Demon Materials neatly categorized and labeled.
Master Yan took out two items: a rat Demon’s brain and its whiskers.
Seeing these two Materials, Qin Yue was a little surprised. Why were they from a rat Demon?
Could it be the rat Demon he brought back from his mission yesterday?
Master Yan was unaware of Qin Yue’s thoughts. After taking the Materials, he led Qin Yue out of Storage Room B, speaking as they walked,
“Originally, this afternoon I planned to refine Blood Replenishing Powder. You new students have a high demand for Blood Replenishing Powder, and it’s basic enough for you to learn from, which is why I asked you to come this afternoon.
However, at noon, the General Affairs Hall transferred a rat Demon Material, which perfectly matched a medicine I had wanted to research. So, I changed this afternoon’s Medicine Refining plan. I’m going to try refining a perception-enhancing medicine using this rat Demon’s Materials.”
Looking at the slightly excited Teacher Yan, Qin Yue was a little speechless. He was now certain that these were the Materials from the mission he completed this morning.
He hadn't expected to dig his own grave; this was a cutting-edge medicine right from the start, and he couldn’t understand it!
After they exited Storage Room B, he told Qin Yue to go to the front hall and call Zhao Yunhe to the Alchemy Room. He wanted to use this Medicine Refining session to teach both of them the basics of Medicine Refining.
Upon receiving Qin Yue’s notification, Zhao Yunhe put down his book, pulled out a piece of paper, and wrote, “Please ring the bell if you need assistance.”
Then, he took a fist-sized bronze bell from a shelf behind him and placed it on the paper.
Only after preparing everything did he enter the Alchemy Room with Qin Yue.
Entering the Alchemy Room, Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe saw Teacher Yan separating each medicine and arranging them on the long table at the very back of the Alchemy Room.
Seeing Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe arrive, Teacher Yan put down the medicinal herbs in his hand and told them to take out the “thousand herb compendium,” check the medicinal properties of the herbs on the table, and categorize them according to their properties.
Excluding the rat Demon’s brain and whiskers, Teacher Yan used a total of sixteen herbs this time.
According to the medicinal properties recorded in the book, Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe categorized the medicinal herbs and found that these sixteen herbs were broadly divided into four categories.
Seeing Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe complete the categorization, Teacher Yan pointed to the four categories of medicines and said:
“When using Yao Beast Materials as the main medicine, auxiliary medicines to enhance the effect are generally not added. One only needs to find a way to better bring out the characteristics of the Yao Beast Materials.
The first category is spirit-awakening medicines, which can make the spiritual properties of Demon medicines burst forth, making them easier to take effect.
The second category of medicine is Qi-regulating and meridian-clearing medicines. Their purpose is to clear obstacles in the meridians and guide the medicinal power directly to the senses.
The third category of medicine is orifice-protecting medicines. Their purpose is to protect organs such as the ears and eyes, preventing the medicinal power from damaging the eye and ear orifices.
The fourth category of medicine is root-strengthening and essence-cultivating medicines. This is mainly because Demon medicines are potent and require strengthening and harmonization to prevent medicinal backlash.
Except for the third type which may vary, using Yao Beast Materials basically cannot do without the cooperation of these few types of medicines.
As for what combination to choose for each type of medicine, you will need to continue researching the medicinal properties of each medicine, read more books on medicinal property analysis, and experiment and experience more. You will naturally learn.”
After Teacher Yan finished speaking, he guided them in processing the Materials.
Each herb was different, and when processing the Materials, one had to use Blood Qi to sense the condition of each herb and cut the required amount according to its medicinal properties.
Once these herbs were processed, Master Yan personally handled the rat Demon Materials. With everything ready, it was finally time to begin Medicine Refining.
Contrary to Qin Yue’s expectations, Teacher Yan did not use the large Alchemy Furnace in the center of the Alchemy Room but instead took out a small Alchemy Furnace from the back.
There was no sequence as Qin Yue had imagined, adding certain medicines first and others later. Teacher Zhao threw all the Yao Beast Materials and medicines into the Alchemy Furnace at once, then added water, covered it, lit the fire, and began Medicine Refining.
“This isn’t Medicine Refining; even hot pot needs to have the water boiled first!”
Qin Yue muttered to himself.
“Have both of you completed your hand Body Refining?
If you have, then like me, place your hands on the Alchemy Furnace.
Close your eyes, let your Blood Qi circulate to the surface of your palms, maintain your perception, and do not exert force.
No matter what happens later, maintain this state and do not panic.”
Teacher Yan spoke as he placed his hands on the Alchemy Furnace.
Seeing Teacher Yan’s instructions, Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe also extended their hands and placed them on the Alchemy Furnace, circulating their Blood Qi.
The Alchemy Furnace was not yet hot, and Qin Yue felt nothing when he placed his hand on it.
Slowly, as the Alchemy Furnace’s temperature rose, Qin Yue felt something pass through the Alchemy Furnace, making contact with the Blood Qi in his palm.
This something was cautious, hooking at Qin Yue’s palm. A wisp of Qin Yue’s Blood Qi was instantly hooked out.
Qin Yue felt as if his Blood Qi had entered a drop of the Blood Qi ocean.
Why call it a drop of the ocean?
Because although he clearly felt the range of Blood Qi was only a drop, the Blood Qi within it felt like a vast ocean.
The Blood Qi content of this single drop of Blood Qi was something his entire body’s Blood Qi could not match.
Qin Yue guessed that this should be Teacher Yan’s Blood Qi, guiding him to feel the changes in the medicine within the Alchemy Furnace.
Teacher Yan’s Blood Qi, carrying Qin Yue’s and Zhao Yunhe’s Blood Qi, experienced the Medicine Refining within the Alchemy Furnace for about half an hour before it bounced their Blood Qi out, focusing on the final refining.
Although the entire process only lasted half an hour, Qin Yue finally understood why Teacher Yan had put all the medicines into the Alchemy Furnace at once.
Because Teacher Yan performed all the operations within the Alchemy Furnace.
He used Blood Qi to separate the medicinal herbs, used Blood Qi to regulate the temperature, and controlled the Fusion of the medicinal herbs.
Everything was due to the intervention of Blood Qi, which made Medicine Refining in this world different from what Qin Yue had heard in his previous life.
Qin Yue and Zhao Yunhe waited for another half an hour, and the medicine was finally refined and ready to be taken out of the furnace.
