38: Selection of drugs for introducing poison into the body
In this world, there are various kinds of poisons, but each poison has its advantages and disadvantages. Even when Martial Artists on Pill Refining Peak use mixed poisons, they still have their priorities.
Some poisons specialize in corrosiveness, like Corpse Rotting Poison, which can turn a person into a puddle of yellow liquid in minutes.
Some poisons specialize in internal organs. As long as a small cut is made on the opponent, the poison can enter the body through the blood and kill the opponent from within.
Then there are the most insidious neurotoxins, which can cause hallucinations, making opponents feel like the whole world is against them, leading them to kill their friends, or making the poisoned person feel that you are the closest person, dying unknowingly.
Poisons are ultimately used against opponents. Qin Yue knows that the biggest opponents in this world are demons, followed by Martial Artists.
Then the first type of poison should be excluded. The powerful physical strength of demons and the widespread use of Body Refining Cultivation Techniques by Martial Artists mean that corrosive poisons have no place. Before the poison can take effect, the person using it would have already been killed by a demon or a Martial Artist.
The second type of poison seems to work better, but the method of transmission and the target area are both problems.
Whether transmitted through wounds or air, they will be blocked by demons or Martial Artists. Demons possess Demonic Qi and various miraculous abilities, while Martial Artists possess Blood Qi, which can expel and block all foreign objects from the body.
Even if the poison enters the area you intend to attack, you will find that for both demons and Martial Artists, the internal organs are a key focus of strengthening during Cultivation.
Although the third type of poison is better than the second, it also has problems with transmission. However, the advantage is that demons and Martial Artists have weaker reinforcement of their nervous Systems and brains, making them more susceptible to poisoning.
Therefore, Qin Yue has always wanted to use a fourth type of poison, which is a beneficial 'poison'.
Just like the poison he used during his Body Refining with poison, it clearly enhanced the effect between his skin and flesh, yet it accelerated his Body Refining speed.
Since it's so difficult for poison to enter an enemy's body, he can just use it on himself to increase his speed, strength, and perception, and even use nerve-based poisons to enhance his will.
Of course, experimenting with his own brain and nerves requires restraint. With Qin Yue's current level of understanding of medicine, he is not yet capable of manipulating his own nerves and brain.
After Qin Yue shared his insights and choices regarding poisons over the past two months with Teacher Yan, Teacher Yan showed a thoughtful expression.
“Your research on medicine and your classification method are very interesting, but there are some areas you haven't fully considered.
How about this, let me give you a taste of my poison. Perhaps you can gain more insights from it.”
After speaking, a drop of Blood Qi appeared in Teacher Yan’s palm. He separated a wisp from this drop of Blood Qi and placed it in Qin Yue’s palm.
“Put this wisp of Blood Qi into your body and carefully observe the changes.”
Qin Yue knew this was Teacher Yan's poison, so he allowed his own Blood Qi to make contact with Teacher Yan's Blood Qi.
As soon as Teacher Yan's Blood Qi touched Qin Yue's Blood Qi, it was like a drop of ink entering water, furiously eroding Qin Yue's Blood Qi, assimilating Qin Yue's Blood Qi into Teacher Yan's own Blood Qi. In a short while, Qin Yue's entire palm was completely occupied by Teacher Yan's Blood Qi.
Qin Yue had no choice but to call upon more Blood Qi to envelop Teacher Yan's Blood Qi, then use his Cultivation Technique to expel both his enveloped Blood Qi and Teacher Yan's Blood Qi from his body. In just that short time, Qin Yue's Blood Qi was directly reduced by a quarter.
Seeing that Qin Yue had already expelled the Blood Qi, Teacher Yan looked at him and asked, “Do you understand?”
Qin Yue understood Teacher Yan's meaning and nodded, replying, “I understand, Teacher!”
Hearing Qin Yue's reply, Teacher Yan continued:
“Qin Yue, your talent is very high!
Whether in Martial Dao or in the study of medicine, you learn very quickly. You learn fast, refine fast, and have good Comprehension Ability. But I've noticed one problem with you, and that is you always, intentionally or unintentionally, overlook the role of Blood Qi!
Your recent analysis and categorization of various poisons were very good. I haven't considered problems in that way either.
But why did you overlook the most important Foundation of a Martial Artist, Blood Qi?
Blood Qi poison is the most commonly used poison on Pill Refining Peak. While others dabble in other poisons, they are a minority.
My letting you try my poison today was to make you remember deeply that Blood Qi is the Foundation of a Martial Artist; it is everything to a Martial Artist.”
Hearing Teacher Yan's serious tone, Qin Yue couldn't help but smile bitterly.
Qin Yue, of course, knew why he always overlooked the role of Blood Qi: because it didn't exist in his previous life!
Even though Blood Qi flowed within Qin Yue's body, he always overlooked it because, at most, Qin Yue had only Transmigrated for less than half a year.
The mindset formed over decades in his previous life was still imprinted in his mind and was not so easy to change.
This was the most serious Teacher Yan had ever spoken to Qin Yue. In the past, because Qin Yue did everything well, and because Teacher Yan had a good temper, he had never been criticized by Teacher Yan.
Qin Yue knew that Teacher Yan spoke so seriously because he wanted Qin Yue to remember these things and never forget them again one day.
So Qin Yue nodded again, “Teacher, Qin Yue understands, and will never dare to forget again.”
Seeing Qin Yue's sincerity, Master Yan said no more, but instead told Qin Yue to go back and reconsider the issue of choosing poisons.
The next day, Qin Yue came to Teacher Yan's Alchemy Hall again. Qin Yue felt that Teacher Yan's life was so monotonous; whenever he came to the Alchemy Hall, he could always find Teacher Yan.
After a night of contemplation, Qin Yue's final decision remained the same as before: to combine beneficial medicines.
It was just that after Teacher Yan's criticism yesterday, he knew that when choosing medicines, he needed to consider the impact on Blood Qi.
Qin Yue had figured out last night the reason for his stubborn choice of beneficial medicines rather than destructive poisons.
He still wanted to prioritize “himself” and Cultivate the Medicine Dao.
He studied Medicine Refining and wanted to ascend Pill Refining Peak not for the lethality of poisons or the strange effects of toxic substances, but to advance to the Divine Intent Realm.
Through Senior Brother Bo Lun and Teacher Yan's explanations of the Divine Intent Realm, Qin Yue understood that the Divine Intent Realm is about the Comprehension Ability of “self.” Therefore, Qin Yue believed that enhancing the self would be beneficial for his Breakthrough to the Divine Intent Realm.
If he wanted to increase his lethality, he could study Martial Dao, he could study Sword Dao, and he believed that with the convenience of his idle Cultivation, his Cultivation in Martial Dao and Sword Dao would be no worse than others.
But to achieve a Breakthrough to the Divine Intent Realm, he needed to rely on the Medicine Dao. Therefore, in his Medicine Dao Cultivation, Qin Yue decided that everything must serve the purpose of achieving a Breakthrough to the Divine Intent Realm.
After Qin Yue finished explaining his thoughts to Teacher Yan, Teacher Yan supported Qin Yue's choice.
Actually, Teacher Yan was not against Qin Yue's ideas yesterday; he criticized Qin Yue simply because Qin Yue ignored Blood Qi.
Since Qin Yue had figured it out today, Teacher Yan naturally would not interfere. Instead, he began to research with Qin Yue, discussing what kind of medicine should be used as a basis when combining beneficial medicines with Blood Qi so as not to affect future development.
In fact, Pill Refining Peak has more beneficial medicines than poisons.
Poisons are mainly used by everyone on Pill Refining Peak for research through Guiding Poison into the Body, and most of the poisons researched are for personal use. Selling to outsiders, of course, mainly consists of beneficial medicines.
The Blood Replenishing Powder Qin Yue had taken before, the Body Protecting Pill he consumed on his way to the Holy Sect, and even the Frenzied Tempering Fluid Qin Yue is currently developing, all belong to beneficial medicines.
Teacher Yan brought over the list of medicines sold by Pill Refining Peak to outsiders and had Qin Yue examine the effects of each medicine one by one, to see which one best suited Qin Yue's intentions.
Qin Yue actually had a general goal before consulting the list. After reviewing the list, he became even more determined in his idea: he wanted to use the “Touch Spirit Pill” as a Foundation to improve the medicine and complete the Guiding Poison into the Body.
Of course, his Guiding Poison into the Body was destined to be different from others. In fact, he was returning to the essence of Pill Refining Peak, which is Medicine Refining into the body, after all, poison is also a type of medicine!
