39: Improved "Touching Spirit Pill"
The Touch Spirit Pill was a newly developed Medicinal Pill by Teacher Yan when Qin Yue first followed him in Medicine Refining.
Qin Yue had asked Teacher Yan why the Touch Spirit Pill had not been successfully developed before, even though its Pill Formula wasn't particularly complex.
Teacher Yan had told him at the time: "The previous attempts to research the 'Touch Spirit Pill' always failed because I hadn't thought of adding a Rat Demon's brain to the Pill Formula.
Using Materials from a Demon's body for Medicine Refining is actually a very mature technology.
Using a Rabbit Demon's eardrum for Medicine Refining can produce the Clever Spirit Pellet, enhancing hearing.
Using a Tiger Demon's heart for Medicine Refining can produce the Tiger Demon Great Strength Pill, enhancing physical strength.
Using an Eagle Demon's eyes for Medicine Refining can produce the Eagle Sight Pill, enhancing vision.
Only this Medicinal Pill for enhancing touch perception consistently failed to be refined; using a Rat Demon's whiskers for Medicine Refining couldn't enhance tactile perception.
It wasn't until the day you arrived that I suddenly had an inspiration, adding the processed Rat Demon's brain to the Pill Formula, and only then was the 'Touch Spirit Pill' refined."
Teacher Yan didn't know why adding a Rat Demon's brain was necessary to refine the Touch Spirit Pill, but Qin Yue probably did.
Because the most crucial factor determining the sensitivity of touch is not the tactile receptors, but the speed of neural processing.
Human fingers, as tactile receptors, are already among the most sensitive of all animals.
Many pieces of information we don't receive aren't because our skin didn't sense them, but because our nerves didn't process them in time.
What Qin Yue wanted to enhance during his first Guiding Poison into the Body was his neural processing speed.
Improving neural processing speed not only allows one to anticipate an enemy's moves in combat but also enables one to gather more information during Cultivation, thereby accumulating more experience and laying the foundation for further progress in the next Cultivation session.
To put it simply, Qin Yue expected to gain more experience from each AFK session.
Of course, even if the latter goal couldn't be achieved, simply allowing Qin Yue to react 0.1 seconds faster than others in combat would be worth it, as that 0.1 second could very well be the difference between life and death.
Hearing that Qin Yue planned to modify the Touch Spirit Pill as the Medicinal Pill for Guiding Poison into the Body, Teacher Yan was very excited.
As the inventor of the Medicinal Pill, he had a strong emotional connection to the Touch Spirit Pill and hoped it could serve a greater purpose.
So Teacher Yan promised that if Qin Yue was willing to share the Touch Spirit Pill modification process with him, he would cover all expenses incurred during the modification.
So, was Qin Yue willing to share?
Of course he was!
Originally, with his Medicine Refining experience, he was very worried about whether the Medicinal Pill modification could achieve the effects he desired, and he had already needed to consult Teacher Yan frequently.
Now, there was no need for consultation; Teacher Yan, with his own laboratory, equipment, and Materials, had actively joined his experiment.
Furthermore, there was no need for attribution if results were achieved, only a review of the experiment records was required. Qin Yue couldn't think of a reason to refuse such a good opportunity.
Soon, Qin Yue's modification experiment began.
Qin Yue's modification plan was as follows: First, remove the Rat Demon's whiskers from the Touch Spirit Pill Pill Formula.
If the Medicinal Pill still had an effect, it would prove that the Rat Demon's brain in the Pill Formula was the core Material, and that the Touch Spirit Pill indeed enhanced perception by increasing neural processing speed.
Then, use different Demon brains to replace the Rat Demon's brain, to find the Demon Materials that increased neural processing speed the fastest.
After finding the best Demon brain, he would then separate the part that could increase neural processing speed, re-match it with auxiliary medicinal herbs, and complete the modification of the Touch Spirit Pill.
Teacher Yan approved Qin Yue's plan, but they encountered a problem in their very first experimental step.
The experiment did not proceed as Qin Yue had envisioned at all; after removing the Rat Demon's whiskers, the Touch Spirit Pill lost its ability to enhance perception.
After several failed experiments, Teacher Yan suggested skipping the first step of removing the tactile receptor component and directly moving on to the second step, trying other Demon Materials.
Experiments with other Demon Materials were similar to the Rat Demon experiment; they all required the participation of their respective tactile receptors to be effective.
After verification through multiple experiments, Qin Yue completely abandoned his original idea of removing the tactile receptors. There must have been something he didn't understand that caused this phenomenon.
However, the experiment was not without its gains. Through the experiment, Qin Yue and Teacher Yan found a type of Sea Demon. Using its brain and cartilage, they refined a new Touch Spirit Pill, which had the best effect among all Demons.
This new Touch Spirit Pill enhanced perception to an absurd degree; taking the new Touch Spirit Pill was like having a sonar detector added to one's body.
It allowed one to perceive subtle vibrations in the environment. Even with closed eyes, as long as vibrations were transmitted, the surrounding scene would be presented in one's brain.
Even in the darkest night, for someone who had taken this new Touch Spirit Pill, it was like the brightest day, with every minute detail visible.
The success of the second step of the experiment greatly boosted Teacher Yan's confidence, and he wanted to begin the third step of research.
But Qin Yue refused. Through the failure of the first step, he already knew that his fanciful experimental plan was completely unrealistic.
To infer the Demon Materials of this world based on his superficial biological knowledge from his previous life was, in the final analysis, a kind of arrogance.
With their current knowledge reserves and technical conditions, it was impossible to separate the neural processing System from a Demon's brain.
So Qin Yue completely abandoned his previous plan, choosing the Sea Demon's brain and cartilage as the main Materials, re-matching auxiliary Materials, and designing a new Touch Spirit Pill.
In this design step, Teacher Yan helped Qin Yue a lot.
Unlike previous experiments, Teacher Yan mainly lacked a scientific experimental mindset like Qin Yue's, but when it came to the combination of traditional Medicinal Pills, that was Teacher Yan's strong suit.
It took a total of one month, and the new Touch Spirit Pill finally came out.
This new Touch Spirit Pill was completely adjusted according to Qin Yue's Physique and the Medicinal Pills he had used for Body Refining before. It could be said to be Qin Yue's customized version of the new Touch Spirit Pill.
Of course, this Medicinal Pill could no longer be called the Touch Spirit Pill. Teacher Yan used his expertise and gave it a new name: "Super-Sense Pill."
Hearing this name, Qin Yue silently crossed out the "Touch Spirit Pill 3.0" that he had already thought of in his heart. This Medicinal Pill would henceforth be called the "Super-Sense Pill."
The Medicinal Pill had been successfully developed, and Qin Yue officially began "Guiding Poison into the Body."
"Guiding Poison into the Body" was, of course, not simply eating the Medicinal Pill, but allowing one's Blood Qi to come into contact with and undergo Fusion with the Medicinal Pill.
The mark of success for "Guiding Poison into the Body" was to completely transform one's Blood Qi, making one's Blood Qi carry the effects of the Medicinal Pill.
Qin Yue's understanding was to add an attribute to his Blood Qi.
