28: The Yandere Warlord's Substitute Bride 28

“Where else would my wife like to go play next?”

“Will my husband accompany me wherever I want to go?”

“Of course, your husband will accompany you to the end.”

Wen Ci glanced at the sky, which had suddenly turned dark and gloomy, and the group of adjutants following closely behind her. A cold glint flashed in her eyes. “Then let’s go listen to an opera.”

General Fu nodded without hesitation. “Good.”

They went to Hai City’s most renowned “Tianchan Theater.” On stage, they were performing “The Drunken Concubine.” As the famous actor was in full swing, Wen Ci suddenly hummed softly and tapped General Fu’s hand with her fingertip.

“Husband, this opera isn’t very good.”

General Fu didn’t even lift an eyelid. He simply raised his hand and gestured to an adjutant, “Change it.”

The adjutant, Chen Ping, was stunned. “General Fu, this is Boss Mei’s show. Changing the opera last minute…”

“Can’t you understand me?” General Fu swept a cold glance, and the adjutant immediately fell silent, turning to relay the order backstage.

The guests below were in an uproar, but Boss Mei’s expression remained unchanged. He dared not disobey in the slightest and simply smiled, changing to “Farewell My Concubine.”

Wen Ci’s red lips curved slightly, and her fingertips gently tapped the table. “I like this one.”

General Fu lowered his gaze, the corner of his lips curving. “As long as my wife likes it.”

However, the adjutants beside them couldn’t help but frown.

Although their General Fu feared nothing, why would he do something that would needlessly offend people?

This Wen Ci seemed to be developing in the direction of a femme fatale who would bring ruin to the country!

Chen Ping looked deeply at Wen Ci, then his gaze fell on General Fu’s face, quickly receding and lowering his eyes.

Halfway through the opera, Wen Ci took another sip of tea and frowned. “It’s cold.”

General Fu immediately stood up, personally picked up the teapot, and went to the back hall.

Everyone in the audience couldn’t help but be astonished. The cold-blooded and ruthless General Fu was actually going to brew tea for someone himself?!

The theater owner was so scared his legs went soft and he quickly followed. “General Fu! Let a subordinate handle such menial tasks…”

General Fu said coldly, “Get out.”

A moment later, he returned with a freshly brewed cup of Biluochun tea, its aroma wafting. Wen Ci, however, only took one sip before setting it down. “It’s a bit hot, husband.”

Everyone gasped, fearing that General Fu would flip the table on the spot.

Who knew, General Fu merely chuckled softly, took the teacup, gently blew on it to cool it, and handed it back. “How about now?”

Only then was Wen Ci satisfied, taking small sips. “Not bad.”

Chen Ping’s gaze beside them grew even more profound as he watched.

Just as the opera was about to reach its climax, Wen Ci suddenly stood up, leaned against the railing, and smiled charmingly at the crowd below. “Today’s opera, how about we add a little wager?”

Everyone was startled. Before they could react, she raised her hand, removed the jade bracelet from her wrist, and tossed it onto the stage.

“A reward!”

The bracelet landed on the stage with a “clink,” startling the famous actor so much he almost forgot his lines.

General Fu didn’t even frown. He directly told an adjutant, “Go, get another pair.”

Wen Ci, however, shook her head, smiling at him. “Husband, I want you to get them yourself.”

The entire hall fell silent.

General Fu stared at her for two seconds, then suddenly chuckled softly. “Alright.”

He stood up and strode towards the stage. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, he bent down to pick up the broken bracelet, then personally retrieved a new one before returning and putting it on her hand himself.

“Satisfied?” His voice was low, carrying a hint of indulgent helplessness.

Wen Ci tilted her head, her red lips curving slightly. “Mm-hmm.”

Everyone saw Wen Ci’s indulgence today, but they were all just shocked because General Fu actually doted on his wife to such an extent.

And General Fu had booked the theater today, which meant they were watching the famous actor’s performance for free, so naturally, they dared not have any opinions.

However, they hadn’t expected Wen Ci to be so important to General Fu, allowing him to abandon his principles for her again and again.

Previously, General Fu not only hated being interrupted while watching an opera but also detested people who caused trouble.

No one had ever dared to cause trouble in front of him!

Wen Ci had had enough fun. She turned to look at the President of the Chamber of Commerce’s wife in the next private room, who had been scrutinizing her with disdainful and unfriendly eyes since just now.

When the President of the Chamber of Commerce’s wife saw Wen Ci looking over, she quickly lowered her gaze, but her heart began to pound.

As expected, the next second Wen Ci chuckled softly, tapping General Fu’s chest with her fingertip. “Husband, she’s glaring at me.”

General Fu didn’t even turn his head, directly giving a cold order. “Gouge out her eyeballs.”

The President of the Chamber of Commerce was so scared he immediately knelt down. “General Fu, spare her life! My foolish wife is ignorant…”

Wen Ci also appropriately pressed General Fu’s hand, saying sweetly, “Forget it, I’m in a good mood today.”

General Fu raised an eyebrow, and his anger immediately subsided. “Alright, everything is as my wife says.”

The President of the Chamber of Commerce felt as if he had been granted a great pardon, kowtowing repeatedly, while his wife had already fainted from fright.

“Husband, am I being too willful?” Wen Ci blinked in his arms.

General Fu chuckled softly, pinching her chin. “My wife can be as willful as she wants.”

“Why?”

“Because,” he lightly bit her ear, “I am your man.”

Chen Ping witnessed all of this from the side.

He was completely certain: this Wen Ci was General Fu’s weakness!

She was delicate and helpless, thus easy to manipulate.

She liked to cause trouble and was big-chested and brainless. When the time came to act, if it didn’t work out, she could still claim it was for General Fu’s consideration.

Moreover, General Fu clearly doted on her excessively, agreeing to all her demanding requests.

Given this, wasn’t Wen Ci the easiest to control and most useful hostage?!

Chen Ping’s heart pounded. He had endured by General Fu’s side for so many years, waiting for this very opportunity.

He couldn't win against General Fu if he acted directly. The old General Fu never had any weaknesses, but ever since this Wen Ci appeared, he had changed.

He had a soft spot!

General Fu had previously shown no interest in women. Chen Ping had tried many honey traps, but none worked on him. He had even begun to think General Fu didn't like women, when Wen Ci appeared.

This woman was indeed breathtakingly beautiful.

But unfortunately, she was ultimately a useless person with no strength, only able to cower under a man’s protection.

Now he just needed to wait for an opportunity, the moment Wen Ci left General Fu’s sight, he would be able to capture her directly.

At that time, in conjunction with Duan Lin, General Fu would have to step down!

The more Chen Ping thought about it, the more excited he became, his hands trembling uncontrollably.

Some of his comrades beside him looked at him with concern, asking, “Chen Ping, are you alright? Are you sick?”

Chen Ping’s body stiffened. He looked at these former comrades and gritted his teeth fiercely.

He could only apologize.

When the time came, they would all have to die.

Because he knew how loyal these men were to General Fu!

“I’m fine.” Chen Ping said, then quickly lowered his head.

They just smiled and patted his shoulder. “If something’s wrong, you should say so. We’ve been brothers for so many years, don’t always keep things to yourself.”

“That’s right, Chen Ping, you’ve always been the quietest among us. General Fu invited us to watch the opera together, be happy!”

Chen Ping remained silent, nodding without saying much.

They didn't say anything more either, turning back to watch the opera and chat cheerfully.

Chen Ping watched their backs for a very long time. Duan Lin had already contacted him. As long as Wen Ci was captured today, Duan Lin would soon be able to lead his men to flatten General Fu’s important base.

At that time, all these people would die.

Hai City was truly about to change.

Wen Ci glanced at the sky outside the window. The light had suddenly dimmed, and lead-grey clouds pressed down like an iron curtain, instantly engulfing the entire beach.

Outside the building, the wind howled, carrying dry leaves and dust that lashed against the walls, making a chilling rustling sound.

She narrowed her eyes slightly, feeling a sense of unease.

General Fu suddenly stood up, the hem of his military uniform knocking over a teacup. Amidst the crisp sound of the porcelain cup shattering on the floor, he clutched Wen Ci’s wrist, his fingers trembling.

“To the mansion.” His voice was extremely taut, his eyes behind the gold-rimmed glasses sharp as knives, scanning every corner of the opera house.

Before Wen Ci could speak, a thunderclap suddenly erupted outside the window, its pale lightning illuminating everyone’s terrified faces in a ghastly grey.

The performer on stage fell to the ground in fright, and the guests in the audience rose in a panic, knocking over tables and chairs in their jostling, sending tea and fruit plates crashing to the floor.

“What’s going on? Wasn’t it bright and sunny this morning? How did the weather change so quickly?”

“It’s so scary, I’m going home, I haven’t taken in the laundry yet.” Everyone felt an inexplicable panic and rushed outside.

Wen Ci, however, didn’t move. She gripped General Fu’s veined hand, but felt a layer of cold sweat in his palm.

General Fu’s breathing was heavy, and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he loosened his collar. He was all too familiar with this suffocating feeling of dark clouds pressing down on the city.

Something was definitely going to happen today.

Wen Ci looked at the tense adjutants and immediately confirmed her suspicion when she saw Chen Ping’s unusually calm expression.

It was him.

The traitor by General Fu’s side was him.

“Husband,” Wen Ci’s soft voice sounded, as if instantly calming General Fu’s fiercely turbulent heart.

He looked at her and saw her mouth two words, “Internal spy.”

His pupils immediately contracted, but quickly returned to normal. Then he followed her gaze to look behind her.

A row of his adjutants stood there.

All were brothers who had faced life and death with him many times.

“General Fu, should we go back?” An adjutant also felt a sense of unease, especially with the way General Fu was looking at them now.

General Fu said nothing. He immediately locked onto Chen Ping. However, Chen Ping, feeling guilty, felt a chill in his heart almost the second General Fu looked at him.

Had he been discovered!
