137: Han Minghan is stupid
When the Police Officer announced that Gao Ze had apprehended the culprit, Han Minghan’s expression froze.
Wasn’t the culprit supposed to be between Chen Zhending and Chen Xu?
Where did Gao Ze find the culprit?
If the culprit he found was the real murderer of Yu Meichan, then what did his suspicions about Chen Zhending and Chen Xu even amount to?
Han Minghan shivered, not daring to imagine further, and immediately pressed, “Who is the culprit Officer Gao found?”
In the interrogation room, Chen Zhending and Chen Xu, father and son, exchanged glances, instantly perking up their ears.
This was a major event concerning their innocence and safety. That Officer Gao was said to be the Police Officer who solved the Xingsheng Bank robbery case in Donghai City. Could he help them?
“Team Leader Han, the culprit Officer Gao apprehended is Zhou Jie, whom we met yesterday!”
“Zhou Jie?”
Hearing this name, Han Minghan’s heart jolted. He walked out of the interrogation room and, sure enough, saw Gao Ze’s familiar face at the Criminal Investigation Brigade, accompanied by a young woman who was slightly bowing her head, her hands cuffed with rose gold handcuffs.
“Captain Han, I have successfully apprehended Zhou Jie, the true murderer of Yu Meichan!”
Gao Ze handed over Zhou Jie, whose hands were cuffed, and said, “Zhou Jie has a good attitude and has already confessed to murdering Yu Meichan!”
Boom!
It was as if a thunderbolt struck his mind. Han Minghan’s face instantly turned pale, looking even worse than Zhou Jie, the apprehended culprit.
Because Han Minghan understood that Yu Meichan’s case was solved by Gao Ze, not by him.
Originally, the Xingsheng Bank robbery case occurred in his jurisdiction, and the Municipal Bureau was discussing how to handle him. If Yu Meichan’s case had been solved by him first, the Municipal Bureau leaders, including the leader behind him, could have spoken up for him.
But Yu Meichan’s case was solved by Gao Ze!
He would now only face two outcomes: being transferred out of Jinghai District and sent back to his hometown, or having his position and rank downgraded.
“I didn’t hesitate to offend a wealthy businessman like Chen Zhending, who is worth billions, to be the first to solve the case, but all I got was this result!”
Han Minghan sighed inwardly, his gaze complex as he looked at Gao Ze: “Congratulations, Officer Gao, you’ve earned another merit!”
Having recognized the reality and the outcome he was facing, there was not much resentment in his tone.
Gao Ze had even helped him in the Xingsheng Bank robbery case!
For Yu Meichan’s case, Gao Ze found the culprit, Zhou Jie, which simply meant he was more capable than him.
“How did you come to suspect Yu Meichan’s mentor, Zhou Jie?”
Gao Ze was better than him, but Han Minghan still wanted to understand where he had overlooked things in the case.
“Yesterday, we went to Donghai Jiaotong University together. After understanding Yu Meichan’s personality, I conducted a detailed investigation into Yu Meichan’s experiences at the school and discovered a suspicious point!”
Noting the relief and curiosity in Han Minghan’s eyes, Gao Ze explained:
“That is, after Yu Meichan’s personality changed in her sophomore year, her academic performance did not decline. She consistently ranked among the top students in the medical department and frequently published signed papers.”
“Is that considered a suspicious point?”
Han Minghan was a bit confused. If he had known this clue yesterday, he probably wouldn’t have paid attention to it either.
“The medical department is different from other disciplines. It requires an extremely intelligent mind and a lot of effort, especially in a prestigious institution like Donghai Jiaotong University. To get good grades, one must study with all their might.”
“So there must be something fishy going on!”
Gao Ze shook his head with a smile, his gaze turning to Zhou Jie as he said, “Moreover, Zhou Jie’s motive for murder is related to this!”
“What?”
Han Minghan’s eyes widened. He immediately questioned Zhou Jie and, upon learning from her that the motive was the appropriation of research paper results, his mouth dropped open in astonishment.
A scholarly culprit, their motive for murder is purer than that of ordinary culprits.
Killing for research paper results—he and many Criminal Investigation Brigade officers in Jinghai District had fallen into the trap of thinking it was a crime of passion.
“Officer Gao, how did you apprehend Zhou Jie?”
Han Minghan continued to ask, “What was the specific process of Zhou Jie’s murder?”
“ketamine, this is the evidence I used to apprehend Zhou Jie!”
Gao Ze then recounted the ketamine found in the cashmere blanket in the living room at the crime scene, as well as the specific details of Zhou Jie’s murder.
After listening, Han Minghan couldn’t help but sigh, “...It seems I not only overlooked Yu Meichan’s papers but also missed the material identification at the crime scene.”
Gao Ze said, “At the time, Captain Han was just anxious, and his attention was constantly drawn to Chen Zhending, which is why he forgot to conduct the identification.”
“An oversight is an oversight, Officer Gao, there’s no need to make excuses for me!”
Han Minghan waved his hand, completely convinced in his heart.
Gao Ze’s criminal investigation ability was indeed superior to his. Even if he disregarded his eagerness to solve the case and salvage his impression with the Municipal Bureau, the person who would ultimately solve Yu Meichan’s case would probably still be Gao Ze.
“I will submit a detailed report of the process of solving Yu Meichan’s case to the Municipal Bureau!”
After taking custody of the culprit Zhou Jie, Han Minghan sincerely said:
“I am honored to have worked on this case with you, Officer Gao. Although we had disagreements and conflicts during the investigation, I hope you won’t take it to heart. If there’s an opportunity, I’d like to treat you to a meal and apologize.”
“A gentleman seeks harmony, not uniformity, and besides, I understand your awkward situation!”
Han Minghan was a smart man and understood that Yu Meichan’s case was a foregone conclusion. Gao Ze also accepted the apology, as he was going to be transferred out of Donghai City anyway. It was better to turn their previous disagreements into goodwill.
“Thank you for your understanding, Officer Gao. I’ll go handle Chen Zhending and Chen Xu, the father and son, now!”
“The culprit has been apprehended. These wealthy father and son were arrested and interrogated by me, so they will probably hate me!”
Gao Ze watched Han Minghan enter the interrogation room and could hear the angry roars of Chen Zhending and Chen Xu, along with demands to call lawyers and file complaints.
Ten minutes later.
Chen Zhending and Chen Xu, father and son, walked out fuming, and saw Gao Ze waiting outside.
“Thank you, Officer Gao. If it weren’t for you, my father and I would have been treated as culprits.”
Chen Zhending and Chen Xu each reined in their anger. Compared to their attitude towards Han Minghan, their attitude towards Gao Ze was completely poles apart—one was underground, the other in the sky.
“Officer Gao, you have shown great kindness to our father and son. Our Hengli Group will never forget it. If you ever need anything in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Officer Gao, would you like to sit down with our Hengli Group? We will treat you well!”
Chen Zhending tightly gripped Gao Ze’s hand, his gratitude overflowing, even feeling a sense of having escaped a disaster.
Because even he had thought he was the culprit. If Gao Ze hadn’t found the real murderer of the case, he would have spent the rest of his life in prison.
“You’re welcome. There’s no need for a treat. You two should go back and rest first!”
Gao Ze chatted with the two for a few minutes, then sent them off and left the Jinghai District Criminal Investigation Brigade.
Just then, a call came in; it was Jiang Qianyu.
“Mr. Gao, I have already invited all the shareholders of our Jiahua Group to the Peace Hotel, as you requested. They have all agreed to attend.
However, Chen Zhending, the chairman of Hengli Group, will not be coming. Will your plan be affected?”
