Chapter 108 The Living Dead - A Bold Idea
The young man's approach to ask Bai Xiao didn't attract much attention; only a few people among the crowd whispering in the cinema lobby noticed them.
When Bai Xiao got up and went to the other side to look for something, no one stopped her, and even fewer people paid attention, because no one would have thought that now that they were finally safe, someone would actually seek death.
When they saw her throwing things downstairs to attract the Red-Eyed People's attention, it was too late to stop her.
One by one, they knelt and sat up in fright, screaming in hushed voices.
The Red-Eyed Person downstairs, whose head was hit by the iron block, was bleeding from the back of his head, but he seemed to feel no pain, and his reaction was different from a human's.
A person's first reaction to being hit is pain, then they cover the injured spot, or squat down in agony, or hide to avoid another attack.
However, the Red-Eyed Person hit downstairs didn't react at all initially. Instead, it was the sound of the iron block hitting the ground that attracted him to turn around and look for the source.
He first lowered his head to find where the sound came from, his hands flailing wildly in attack, then he sniffed hard like a police dog.
He suddenly raised his lowered head, and his crimson eyes met Bai Xiao's, who was looking down from above.
His unusual movement, his two bell-like bloodshot eyes locking onto her from three meters away, was a sudden and precise action, like being targeted by a beast in the dark, sending shivers down one's spine.
As if a long-hungry wolf smelled fresh meat, the Red-Eyed Person staring at her roared with his head tilted back, the clicking sound from his throat gradually growing louder.
His abnormal movement attracted many more Red-Eyed People, and the crowd quickly converged here.
At this moment, the survivors on the other side also lightened their movements and ran over as fast as they could, fearing Bai Xiao would do something outrageous again.
"What are you doing?! Are you crazy!"
"If you want to die, don't drag us down with you!"
Led by the young man who had just asked Bai Xiao, their faces were filled with shock, as if they would act against her at any moment if Bai Xiao dared to make another move.
"Shh! Don't talk!"
Bai Xiao withdrew her peering head. She turned around, raising one hand to stop the people's movements, and placing her index finger vertically on her lips with the other.
Everyone was confused, but they also knew that the Red-Eyed People downstairs had already been attracted, and indeed, no more big movements could be made now.
When she turned back to look down again, the Red-Eyed People downstairs had suddenly closed the distance with her, startling Bai Xiao.
Looking closely, it turned out that the converging Red-Eyed People were all gathered in one spot. They knew there were ordinary people above this position, and due to fighting for space, a stampede occurred. Some Red-Eyed People were trampled underfoot, piled up like human pyramids, used as stepping stones.
The Red-Eyed Person who had closed the distance with her was climbing up by stepping on the fallen crowd. They were stacking higher and higher; another meter and a half and they would reach the Sixth Floor.
Bai Xiao turned and quickly ran to the abandoned Food Street area piled with debris, found a long stick, and then returned to poke at the Red-Eyed People who were about to climb up.
She had the high ground, and the stick was long and she had great strength. She poked several Red-Eyed People at once. Those hit by the stick had no barrier behind them and quickly fell down with strange cries.
For a moment, several thudding sounds of heavy objects hitting the ground rang out. The sound of bodies falling from the Fifth Floor to the First Floor was much louder than Bai Xiao throwing things earlier.
The Red-Eyed People on the lower floors instantly became agitated. Those on the First Floor quickly surrounded them, while the Red-Eyed People on the middle floors were attracted by the sound to the glass railing of the corridor. Like dumplings falling into a pot, they directly flipped over the railing and dropped to the First Floor.
With continuous 'plop-plop' sounds of people jumping from the building, countless blood flowers instantly bloomed on the First Floor.
But they didn't die from the fall; it was understandable for those from lower floors, but even those who fell from higher floors were still "alive."
Even with broken limbs, some even with large dents in their heads, they could still get up, moving in grotesque forms, swinging their broken joints and bones as if they felt no pain.
This scene was truly too much like zombies in a movie.
The survivors on the Sixth Floor looked down at the mass jumping event unfolding before them, their emotions beyond mere shock.
The Red-Eyed People who were still stacking up on the Fifth Floor were attracted by the greater commotion downstairs and gradually shifted their direction of attack.
The sounds of jumping gradually subsided, and the Red-Eyed People once again lost their attack target, resuming their aimless wandering like the Living Dead.
Their hearing was very keen, and they could even lock onto the person creating the sound source, whether by smell or some other sense.
This was bad news, but the good news was that after their mutation, they also became "stupid."
After locking onto the sound creator, they didn't know how to go upstairs by using the stairs; they would only launch attacks in the most primitive and direct way.
"What on earth are you doing!"
After the incident subsided, Bai Xiao was surrounded and questioned by the survivors.
"Can't you tell? Testing them." Bai Xiao silently touched the ring on her left middle finger.
"We're finally safe, why would you provoke them for no reason!"
Before Bai Xiao could respond to this question, someone else was already answering for her.
"You want to get out? Looking for their weakness?"
Bai Xiao nodded, then added: "There's nothing here; it's not a place to stay long. We'll have to leave sooner or later."
Several people nodded. Indeed, there was no food or drink here; how long could they stay?
They either had to go downstairs to find food or go outside to look. Either option would mean confronting the Red-Eyed People; otherwise, constantly hiding on the Sixth Floor for safety was just prolonging death.
The longer they stayed, the hungrier they would get, and the weaker their bodies would become. By then, if they wanted to leave, they would have no strength left.
"At least say something to everyone," someone complained softly.
Bai Xiao was a maverick, used to going her own way. She didn't have the habit of notifying people in advance. Besides, everyone had just escaped, and even if she had told them, such an action wouldn't have been allowed, so she simply didn't bother.
"What should we do next? Where can we go if we leave? Where is it safe outside now?"
"Have you forgotten the game mission? We have to go to the transfer point."
"But where is the transfer point? Who knows?"
"No matter what, we have to leave this place."
"Do we really have to go? There are so many monsters outside."
"If we don't go, we'll die here sooner or later."
The survivors started discussing again, but unfortunately, from the moment they arrived until now, they hadn't come to a final conclusion.
"Do you have a plan?" Someone cast their gaze towards Bai Xiao, who was leaning against the railing, lost in thought.
"First, clean up this place and find some useful supplies and tools," Bai Xiao said lightly, pointing downstairs.
"What?!"
"She's really crazy!"
"Just the few of us?"
"There are at least hundreds of Red-Eyed People downstairs, how dare you even think that!"
"It's good enough that they're not coming up to attack us; you want to provoke them even more?"
"We have nothing right now. How can we clear out this group of strange people downstairs who seem impervious to pain and death?!"
