Chapter 74 Live Feeding Area - Area Change
Since its establishment, Zone D had never experienced such a situation. The park had not established an effective response mechanism for such incidents. Perhaps such a mechanism existed, but after years of neglect by the Administrator, it had long fallen into disuse.
Therefore, only a dozen or so Administrator managed to escape the cafeteria. The others were either beaten to the point of being unable to get up or lay on the ground, their condition unknown.
Bai Xiao had been prepared and reacted instantly when the riot broke out, darting out of the cafeteria. Faced with this situation, she chose to observe from a distance.
As an impostor Administrator, she had no desire to attack those who, like her former self, were imprisoned. As a former prisoner, logically she should stand with these people. However, she felt this park couldn't possibly be so simple; there must be some mechanism in place to suppress such situations.
If she rashly abandoned her impostor identity and rejoined her original group, it would be equivalent to exposing herself directly. The combined charges of participating in the riot and impersonating an Administrator would lead to harsher punishment. Even if she managed to escape by chance, it would hinder her continued undercover efforts.
Her understanding of this park was merely the tip of the iceberg. Such a massive institution couldn't be this fragile. Once the park launched a counterattack, these rioters would likely be swiftly eliminated.
Therefore, after careful consideration, she decided to temporarily retreat to the stairwell on the second floor to take shelter.
The dozen or so escaped Administrator retrieved the weapons used during patrols and the previously used electric batons from the cabinets in the First Floor processing room. The electric batons only worked upon contact with a conductor or the human body, but the weapons were different—they directly fired electric projectiles. Rioters hit by them immediately collapsed, paralyzed.
Unfortunately, the weapons had limited ammunition. As long as the rioters were determined to dodge or used insulators for cover, the attacks proved ineffective. Bai Xiao followed the dozen or so Administrator, retreating all the way to the Third Floor.
The Team Leader was also among this group. Upon returning to the Third Floor, she immediately went to her room. After doing something unknown, alarms began sounding throughout the entire building. The small red lights originally in the corridors lit up, their red glow spreading across the whole building. The combined noise was terrifyingly loud, seemingly audible from a kilometer away.
Seeing this, the other Administrator followed the Team Leader and took refuge in her room. The Team Leader's room was the largest, a private suite with a bedroom, living room, and bathroom.
Once everyone was inside, they desperately braced against the room door while looking at the Team Leader, awaiting her next instructions.
The Team Leader had never witnessed such chaos outside either, but she remained relatively calm. She reassured everyone, 'Don't worry. According to regulations, the iron gate outside the building has always been kept in the safe box in my room. Without the password, no one can open it. I've already sounded the alarm. The park's Guard Team will hear it and arrive soon. We just need to hold the door a little longer!'
Before her words faded, the door began to thud under heavy impacts. Perhaps due to the safe box, the Team Leader's door was the sturdiest of all the rooms, holding firm for the time being.
While bracing the door, Bai Xiao thought to herself, 'Good thing I didn't act recklessly. There's still a Guard Team within the park. Even if the rioters manage to break through the iron gate, dealing with this small-scale riot would be child's play for a fully armed Guard Team.'
Within ten minutes, just as the door was on the verge of giving way, a wave of even more chaotic noise erupted from downstairs.
The Team Leader cried out excitedly, 'It must be the Guard Team!'
Sure enough, not long after, sounds of rioters being hit and collapsing could be heard outside the door, followed by a series of knocks. The people inside hurriedly opened the door.
Outside stood a group of fully armed individuals dressed in black. The weapons they held were highly sophisticated, clearly superior to those used by Zone D's Patrol Team.
The leader counted the number of people still safe and sound, then directed the Team Leader, 'The Breakers have been eliminated. First, escort the remaining non-Breakers downstairs back to their dormitory cells. Afterwards, tally the Administrator casualties and report to the higher-ups.'
The Team Leader nodded and signaled for the few people inside to go downstairs and get to work.
The unawakened ones had long been terrified, huddling in the corners of the cafeteria with their heads down. Seeing people descend made them even more fearful. The group was quickly escorted back to their rooms.
The entire building housed approximately a thousand captives. Currently, about one-third had been dealt with.
The Administrator, including kitchen staff, numbered around a hundred. Among them, twenty-five were dead, forty-eight severely injured, nineteen lightly injured, and only a handful remained unscathed.
The injured needed to be sent to Zone B's Comprehensive Department for treatment. The Guard Team, responsible for park Security Personnel, couldn't stay long. After reporting to the higher-ups, they assembled and departed.
The Team Leader also finished reporting to her superiors. They indicated that Administrator would soon be transferred from other zones to fill the vacancies. The severely injured would be sent via last night's transport vehicle to Zone B's Comprehensive Department for emergency treatment. A few Administrator could be assigned to accompany the vehicle. The remaining Administrator would stay to receive the new Administrator.
A rare opportunity to go outside, and to Zone B at that—Bai Xiao certainly wanted to go. She was just thinking about how to secure the chance when the Team Leader, with a wave of her hand, selected her and a few others to be responsible for escorting the injured.
It wasn't luck. Among the remaining personnel, only Bai Xiao and a few others were either fortunate enough to be uninjured or had sustained only superficial wounds. Those left behind, even if not severely injured, had been beaten to varying degrees.
Zone B was farther away, about a ten-minute drive.
Finally having a chance to reach another zone, Bai Xiao spent the entire journey thinking about how she could stay in Zone B. Operating alone, only by reaching a higher-level zone could she gain greater authority. With authority, she could learn how to leave the park. A zone transfer was imperative.
Upon arriving at Zone B, employees from the Medical Department were already waiting outside. Zone B was a circular building. Its width was similar to Zone D's building, but the number of floors differed significantly. Zone B had over a dozen floors. The Medical Department they needed was on the fifth floor.
Everyone worked together, making three or four trips to transport all the severely injured to the Medical Department for treatment. The few accompanying Zone D Administrator, including Bai Xiao, had no immediate assignments. They sat on chairs in the Medical Department corridor, waiting.
With the Team Leader absent and no one to restrain them, when Bai Xiao once again used the excuse of needing to use the restroom, the others were merely surprised by her boldness. Ultimately, they lacked the authority to stop her and could only watch her leave.
Although the park had a ban against unauthorized cross-zone movement, anyone coming to Zone B or Zone A had received permission from superiors. Therefore, even employees in different uniforms moving about didn't raise immediate suspicion, though they might draw a few glances from passersby.
Bai Xiao didn't go to the women's restroom. Instead, she took the elevator back to the First Floor, near the zone distribution map. The map showed the First Floor as the lobby, the second floor as the employee rest area, the third and fourth floors as dining areas, floors five to eight as the Medical Department, floors nine and ten as entertainment, fitness, and leisure areas, and floors eleven to the top as the Hotel.
While studying the distribution map, she pondered. If she could find someone with a suitable identity to replace, that would be ideal. If not, she would see if she could hide somewhere.
For someone from Zone D, reaching Zone B was a truly rare opportunity. If she gave it up now, who knew how long she'd have to wait for the next chance?
No matter what, even if it meant losing her legitimate identity, she was determined to stay here.
