Chapter 67 Live-Fed Farm - A Regular Life
The crowd, who hadn't eaten breakfast and had been forced to work all morning, grew restless upon hearing the bell.
Seeing the formation about to break, the blue-clothed Administrators shouted to stop them: "Don't run around! Stay in your original formation. Eat where you're supposed to eat. No switching lines!"
Those in two-person and four-person rooms ate in the Left Cafeteria, while those in six-person and eight-person rooms ate in the Right Cafeteria. The two cafeterias were separated by a staircase, but because the doors were glass, one could see into the other.
The lunch portions were large. Everyone's meal was pre-served on the tables, featuring lean beef, eggs, spinach, avocado, kiwi, and red bean mixed grain rice. It was very hearty.
Bai Xiao peeked at the cafeteria across from them. Their meals were also pre-served, and the portions seemed even larger, though the variety wasn't as good. They seemed to be eating pig liver, duck blood, wood ear mushrooms, broccoli, oranges, and brown rice.
Having not rested all morning, everyone was truly hungry. Without needing supervision from the blue-clothed Administrators, they began to eat ravenously. Halfway through, their empty stomachs finally felt full, and most people slowed down.
A small number of people with smaller appetites were full after eating half and wanted to put down their utensils and stop eating.
The cafeteria tables were round, seating ten people each. Two blue-clothed Administrators stood by every table, holding rulers.
Seeing someone stop eating, they wordlessly struck them across the back with a ruler.
"Finish it!"
The person who was hit cried out in pain and didn't dare resist, continuing to eat.
The portions were truly massive. It was unclear if they thought the group hadn't eaten breakfast and had combined two meals into one; the food on the trays was piled high like small mountains.
More and more people reached two-thirds of their meal and couldn't take another bite, but the moment they stopped, the rulers seemed to have eyes of their own, striking their backs. Wails of pain rose and fell throughout the room.
Many people reached the point where they couldn't stuff another morsel in, only to end up lying on the floor being ruthlessly whipped. Even then, these fierce Administrators did not let them off.
They took feeders out of the cabinets. Working in pairs, one would hold a person down while the other inserted the feeder into their mouth, crudely forcing the food down.
"No vomiting! If anyone throws up, you're eating it back!"
Sounds of retching were forced back down. Everyone was terrified by this brutal forced-feeding, desperately stuffing food into their mouths, forcing themselves to eat even when they couldn't.
Bai Xiao was full by the time she finished two-thirds. Seeing that she had to finish no matter what and not wanting to suffer the ruler after being stuffed, she chose to keep eating. For some reason, her body seemed to have strong adaptability; although she was full, she didn't feel terribly uncomfortable after finishing everything.
This meal, which had started happily but ended in agony, was finally over.
The blue-clothed Administrator in the opposite cafeteria said something, and those people, clutching their rounded bellies, were forced back into a line and driven upstairs.
Bai Xiao thought her side would follow the same process, but to her surprise, the Administrator said they could have an hour of free time and would gather on the Fifth Floor in an hour.
Free time was good, of course; it allowed for some digestion.
On the First Floor, besides the two cafeterias and the kitchen, there were only two unmarked rooms at the end of the hallway. Bai Xiao turned the doorknobs, but they were locked.
The Second Floor was the activity area for the four-person and six-person rooms. Like the Fourth Floor, it consisted of empty classrooms, nothing special.
The Third Floor was where everyone lived, including the Administrators. Their duty rooms were at the end of the hallway, several on each side, all locked. Unlike the others' dorm rooms, their doors didn't have transparent glass.
The only difference was that only the people from the two-person and four-person rooms were currently enjoying free time. Those who had gone upstairs earlier were already back in their dorms, resting on their beds.
The Fifth Floor was the gathering place. Bai Xiao took a look around, but the doors were all closed and not yet open. She didn't know what they would be doing later.
An hour passed quickly, and Bai Xiao finally learned what was behind the closed doors on the Fifth Floor. It was actually massages!
The two-person and four-person rooms received manual massage services, while the six-person and eight-person rooms used massage chairs.
For the first time, Bai Xiao felt comfortable. The masseuse used moderate pressure, kneading her entire body until it felt relaxed and limber. It made her feel drowsy, but this time, no Administrator came to wake her with a ruler.
Unknowingly, most people had either fallen asleep or were about to.
Beep, beep, beep—it sounded like a timer alarm.
Then came several clicks as everyone's hands and feet were locked into place by hidden restraints on the massage beds and chairs.
The cold sensation jolted them awake from their slumber. The masseuses didn't care whether they were awake or asleep; they began touching the bodies they had already massaged once. It was as if they were looking for imperfections; once they found a spot that needed "processing," they would focus all their pressure on that one area.
Sometimes the pressure was heavy, sometimes light. The massaged area would become numb and sore. After a while, everyone was grimacing and crying out in pain.
Comfort turned into torture.
After the long massage ended, a screen was lowered at the front of each massage room, playing films designed to soothe emotions.
After the film, the locked hands and feet were released. Everyone lined up neatly in the hallway again, and the Administrators led them to the First Floor for dinner.
Dinner was again served in separate cafeterias for the two groups. The food was still abundant and varied, but fortunately, the portions weren't as large as lunch. However, since they had eaten so much at lunch and hadn't fully digested it, even the smaller dinner portions left them feeling uncomfortably stuffed.
After dinner, the people from the high-occupancy dorms were again required to go upstairs, while those from the low-occupancy rooms were allowed to walk on the lawn and track.
Bai Xiao walked slowly along the track to help her digestion. Unknowingly, she approached the iron gate in the middle of the perimeter wall. The gate was tightly shut, with blue-clothed Administrators standing guard. She only glanced at it out of the corner of her eye before quickly looking away, her subconscious warning her not to get close.
In front of the iron gate, there was a road leading to the center of the building. The road cut right through the lawn and track, making it look exceptionally jarring.
A sudden image appeared in Bai Xiao's mind: a lawn in the center with a ball field, surrounded by a red running track. Shouldn't they be connected? Why was it so strange here, cut off in the middle?
Thinking of this, she shook her head vigorously. It was truly strange; why were these inexplicable images and sounds always appearing in her head lately?
After the walking time ended, everyone returned to their dorms. Upon returning, milk had already been placed on the tables. Under the supervision of the Administrators, everyone had to drink every last drop.
The milk was a bit bitter. "It's really not pure," she reflexively complained.
After drinking, clutching their bloated bellies, everyone was required to return to their beds to sleep. Soon, the dorm lights were extinguished.
The day passed like that. Nothing was felt during the night until the following night.
After falling asleep that night, she again felt a chill, followed shortly by a sharp pain in her arm. She seemed to hear someone exclaim.
"How were the data points set? It's drawing too fast! Didn't you see her vessel collapse? She's a Premium Product; she wasn't easy to raise. Are you a novice? How were you trained!"
