4: Chapter 4 Gao Qilan, your eyes are... well, you know.

As he left the police station entrance, Zhao Yang caught a glimpse of a middle-aged woman carrying a lunch box walking toward the gate—it was Meng Dehai's wife, coming to deliver dumplings to An Xin.

He knew exactly what was going on.

If he hadn't brought Gao Qisheng out, An Xin would have bumped into Gao Qisheng and Gao Qilan while picking up the dumplings at the entrance. Then, An Xin's overflowing sympathy would have led him to invite the siblings inside and share his dumplings with them.

Upon seeing such a warm-hearted man, Gao Qilan would have fallen for him instantly.

In the future, An Xin wouldn't marry for twenty years, and she wouldn't marry for twenty years either.

In the end, nothing would come of it.

One look at An Xin, and a lifetime is ruined.

So, for the sake of Gao Qilan's happy life, Zhao Yang acted decisively to prevent this meeting.

...

On the way back to Jiuchang Street, Gao Qiqiang had already explained the whole situation to his younger brother and sister.

Gao Qisheng quickly said to Li Xiang, "Officer, my brother wouldn't lie. I even saw the receipt for the TV!"

Li Xiang, already a bit annoyed by the three siblings' chatter, frowned and said, "Words are no proof. I'll believe it when I see it."

Gao Qiqiang immediately smoothed things over: "Officer Li is right! A Sheng, listen to Officer Li!"

Gao Qilan, sitting in the front, kept her head down the whole time.

She kept wanting to look at Zhao Yang, but she couldn't resist the intense feeling of shyness, her small hands clenching until they were sweaty. In the end, she could only fix her gaze on the car's gear shifter—because whenever Zhao Yang shifted gears, his hand would appear there.

Bony and well-defined, with long fingers. The veins on the back of his hand bulged slightly, possessing a sense of power unique to men.

She stole several glances, and every time she tried to move her gaze up to see his face, she would pull back as if burned.

Her heart was pounding fiercely.

She didn't know what was wrong with her; she just couldn't help but want to look at him.

...

When they arrived at Gao Qiqiang's home, he quickly found the receipt and respectfully handed it to Zhao Yang: "Officer Zhao, look, this is the receipt for the TV."

Zhao Yang looked at it and handed it to Li Xiang: "Since there's a receipt, at most it's just a mutual brawl. It's Chinese New Year; a fine plus some criticism and education, and then writing a statement of guarantee should be enough."

Li Xiang pondered for a moment and frowned: "What if Tang Xiaolong and the others don't accept that?"

“They won't accept it?” Zhao Yang snorted coldly. “When I was doing my rounds, I heard those two bastards have caused plenty of trouble for the market vendors. I’ve been thinking about dealing with them anyway.”

“You received a report?”

Zhao Yang smiled and lowered his voice: “Reports are things that can exist whenever they are needed.”

Li Xiang had a strange expression: “Xiao Zhao, is this what you learned at Handong University?”

Zhao Yang gave a meaningful smile.

Looking at the smile on his face, Li Xiang felt inexplicably uneasy.

At this moment, Gao Qiqiang was watching the two of them with trepidation, tentatively asking, “Officer Zhao, Officer Li, how much is the fine?”

“A five-hundred-yuan fine, plus a self-reflection and guarantee statement of no less than five hundred words to be handed into our team tomorrow.” Zhao Yang patted Gao Qiqiang’s shoulder. “Don’t be so impulsive in the future. Also, if you find the Tang Brothers bullying people again, record it and give it to me, understand?”

“Understood, understood!” Gao Qiqiang nodded repeatedly. “Thank you, Officer Zhao, thank you, Officer Li! Why don't you two stay for dinner!”

“Officers, please stay for dinner, my brother’s cooking is excellent!”

Gao Qilan mustered the courage to speak. Her words were directed at Li Xiang, but her eyes were secretly peeking at Zhao Yang: “Officers, you must stay! Thank you for being lenient with my brother!”

Gao Qisheng spoke while bowing.

He had the highest education and the broadest horizons, so he had long since figured it out—the police weren't looking too deeply into his brother's matter, how could he not understand that?

Zhao Yang looked at him with a smile: “Gao Qisheng, right? You look like a college student. What's your major?”

“Finance and Trade, I’m about to graduate.”

“What are your plans for the future? Taking the civil service exam? Or finding a good company?”

Gao Qisheng adjusted his glasses and said a bit shyly, “I... I want to start a business.”

Gao Qiqiang listened anxiously: “A Sheng! What business? You...”

“Sigh...” Zhao Yang waved his hand, “There’s nothing wrong with doing business. Many people are starting businesses now, but entrepreneurship isn't something that succeeds on a whim. A Sheng, do you have a direction?”

Gao Qisheng quickly mentioned his idea of selling phs phones.

“That’s a good idea, phs will definitely become popular.” Zhao Yang nodded.

“Officer Zhao, what is phs?”

Gao Qilan finally found an opportunity to talk to Zhao Yang, her clear, big eyes staring straight at him.

Zhao Yang smiled: “That thing has a nickname called ‘Hey-Hey-Grass’.”

“Officer Zhao, you even know about that!” Gao Qisheng acted as if he had discovered a new world. “Although the phs signal isn't that great, it's cheap! And the signal in the city isn't that bad.”

“How about this, A Sheng,” Zhao Yang said, “I know an investor who specializes in investing in college students' startups. Write your idea for opening a store into a project proposal and give it to me tomorrow. I'll pass it along for you.”

“Huh?”

Gao Qisheng never dreamed of such a good thing happening. He nodded his head like a chicken pecking rice: “Thank you, Officer Zhao! I really don't know how to thank you.”

Zhao Yang patted his shoulder: “Alright, we'll talk once it's done. Usually, try to advise your brother more and tell him not to be so impulsive.”

Afterward, the two of them said goodbye to the Gao family and rushed back to the station.

From this trip, Zhao Yang had gathered quite a lot of emotion points from the Gao siblings.

The largest amount actually came from Gao Qilan's admiration.

He couldn't help but touch his face, secretly lamenting: These inexperienced female students... their values follow their eyes.

“Xiao Zhao, stop at the convenience store ahead. Let's buy something to eat, I'm starving.” Li Xiang suddenly spoke.

Zhao Yang smiled: “Let's go straight back to the station, there will be dumplings to eat.”

“Where are there dumplings?”

“An Xin has them.”

“Him? He can't even make egg fried rice.”

“He definitely has them, do you want to bet? One yuan.”

“You're on. I wouldn't believe An Xin could make dumplings even if you killed me.”

...

After the two left, Gao Qiqiang immediately started cooking.

Gao Qisheng took out paper and pen and started writing the proposal.

Gao Qilan leaned over to him and asked, “Second Brother, what did Officer Zhao mean by ‘Hey-Hey-Grass’ earlier?”

“He meant that phs often has a bad signal.” Gao Qisheng raised his hand and pretended to make a call—

“Hey!”

“Hey!”

“Grass!”

Gao Qilan clutched her stomach and started laughing: “Hahaha, Officer Zhao is so interesting! Brother, since you and Big Brother are both going to the police station tomorrow, take me with you. It's boring being home alone.”

Gao Qisheng curled his lip: “Just say it if you want to see Officer Zhao.”

“Huh? No! Don't talk nonsense!”

Gao Qilan stomped her foot, turned around, and ran back to her room, slamming the door shut.

She threw herself onto the bed and buried her face in the quilt, her mind full of Zhao Yang—his hand shifting gears, the casual way he patted her big brother's shoulder. Her heart was pounding fiercely.

...

With Zhao Yang taking action, the fates of the three Gao siblings had quietly changed.
