85: Chapter 85 A Family of Ruthless People
The three of them fixed their gazes simultaneously on the girl behind Zhao Yang, who wore a ponytail and had reddened eyes.
It was as if they were looking at some terrifying behemoth.
Huang Yimei took a step forward. All three of them shuddered in unison.
A Wei pulled his blanket tighter, curling into a ball; A Feng's face twisted into a mask of misery; Sister Xi swallowed hard.
She had seen it with her own eyes—this delicate-looking girl had tossed A Feng to the ground like a ragdoll. No matter how thin A Feng was, he was still a grown man weighing over a hundred pounds, yet in her hands, he was like a chick being lifted. How did she get out of the police station so quickly? What was she here for? Retaliation at the hospital? Since when was the mainland more outrageous than Hong Kong?
A series of questions made her uneasy, so Sister Xi quietly fished out her phone, her thumb hovering over the police emergency number.
Huang Yimei stood prettily at the hospital room door, her face full of apology. "I am truly sorry about today. I really didn't know I had that much strength. I didn't mean to do it."
The expressions of the three froze.
Listen to that, is that even human language?
She beat someone up, then ran over to say she didn't know she was strong and didn't mean it.
If she had meant to, would she have beaten them to death on the spot?
Huang Yimei seemed to feel that just standing there wasn't enough, so she wanted to walk over to the hospital bed to express her concern again and, incidentally, check on the one who had been knocked out.
She had just taken a step forward when A Feng and A Wei shouted simultaneously, "You... don't come over here!"
Zhao Yang picked at his ear. He had heard that line so many times; couldn't they come up with something fresh?
Huang Yimei froze in place, looking at him helplessly.
"I think they have already felt your apology." Zhao Yang smiled and ruffled her hair, then turned to the three people in the room, his expression indifferent. "You must have felt my sister's sincerity by now, right?"
"We... we felt it!"
"Ye-yes!"
A Feng and A Wei spoke almost simultaneously, staring at Huang Yimei with wary faces, terrified that the tigress might move another step.
"That's good. Farewell." Zhao Yang pulled Huang Yimei and turned to leave.
"Sir, wait!" Sister Xi suddenly called out.
Zhao Yang turned back, his gaze questioning.
Sister Xi put on a warm smile. "May I ask for your name, sir, and where you are employed?"
"My name isn't worth mentioning, I'm just a small criminal police officer in Jinghai City." Zhao Yang pulled Huang Yimei away without looking back.
Sister Xi frowned. A small criminal police officer? Jinghai?
"Damn it! This is too bullying!" A Wei's eyes were red. "What is this supposed to be? Coming here to demonstrate?"
A Feng was shaking with anger. "A small criminal police officer from the mainland is this arrogant? She beat someone up and just walked out like that? Sister Xi, you have to stand up for us!"
Sister Xi waved her hand and took out her phone. "I'm making a call, don't speak for a moment."
She dialed the number of a screenwriter surnamed Chen in Hong Kong. "Hello, Mr. Chen, this is A Xi. I remember you saying you wanted to adapt a real case from the mainland into a movie. Which city was it from?"
"Oh, that big case in Jinghai. Unfortunately, I looked into it later, and it hasn't been fully closed yet; the political risks are too high."
"Jinghai? What was that criminal police officer's name?"
"Surname Zhao... what was it... right, Zhao Yang!"
Sister Xi's body trembled slightly. "What does he look like?"
"Sister Xi, why are you interested in him? Haha, you haven't fallen for him, have you? I saw him in the newspapers, a very handsome young man. I just thought it would be a pity if he didn't act in movies."
"Don't tease me, I'm just curious. I'll talk to you later."
Sister Xi hung up, feeling a chill down her spine.
Jinghai, criminal police officer, Zhao Yang, handsome. All four descriptors matched.
She took a deep breath, said "You two wait here" to the two on the hospital beds, and hurried out.
A Feng and A Wei looked at each other.
Ten-plus minutes later, Sister Xi returned quickly, threw two old newspapers she had scrounged from somewhere directly into their faces, stood with her hands on her hips, and gritted her teeth. "You really know how to cause trouble! Look! Look at who that Zhao Yang was just now!"
The two picked up the newspapers, and after just one glance, their eyes went round, and the muscles in their faces began to twitch.
first-class merit for anti-organized crime.
"Holy crap, no wonder he was so arrogant..."
"first-class merit!"
Sister Xi pointed at their noses. "See clearly! He was a real undercover agent, not a character in the movies you film! You dared to bully his sister? It's a mercy he didn't beat you to death!"
The two exchanged a lingering fearful glance. The brother was a tough nut who went undercover alone and took down an entire criminal underworld from top to bottom, and the sister was a tigress with infinite strength. What kind of family was this?
If they had provoked someone with the same background in Hong Kong, they probably wouldn't be lying in a hospital right now, but hanging up and getting beaten.
As for Zhao Yang saying Huang Yimei was his sister, no one doubted it—without a blood relationship, how could they both be so good-looking? And damn it, both so tough!
The hospital room was as quiet as a morgue.
Suddenly, Sister Xi's phone rang. The three of them were startled at the same time. Seeing the caller ID, Sister Xi's expression changed, and she quickly answered. "Boss, what are your instructions?"
"Are those two bastards there?"
Sister Xi's heart sank. "They are right beside me."
"Put it on speaker. Everyone listen up."
Sister Xi made a shushing gesture to A Feng and A Wei, pressed speakerphone, and placed the phone on the table.
A roar exploded from the phone. "You dead bastards! You brainless idiots! Who did you provoke? You messed with the wrong person! You useless losers! You bunch of ***"
The three listened with dark faces, not saying a word, shivering from time to time. The person cursed for a full ten minutes, then seemed to get tired, took a breath, and their tone turned cold. "Go apologize to them in person. If they don't forgive you, don't bother coming back—just jump into the river yourselves."
...
Almost at the same time, Zhao Yang received a call from Wu Yuedong.
"Boss." Wu Yuedong's voice carried a hint of caution. "Just now, someone from Hong Kong was making inquiries, saying they wanted to blacklist Miss Huang Yimei. I looked into it; it's related to a partner under Qilan Investment. The boss of that partner happens to be the financial backer behind those Hong Kong actors."
Zhao Yang's lips curled up slightly. "How did you respond?"
"I said that Tomorrow Culture belongs to Qilan Investment, and told them to figure it out themselves."
Zhao Yang's lips curled even higher. "Good response. Is everything going smoothly lately?"
"Everything is proceeding according to plan. It's just that the capital flow loss is too high, and Manager Gao and I are both feeling a bit pained."
"This time the schedule was too tight, so there wasn't time to make sufficient preparations. Next time." Zhao Yang smiled faintly.
The bursting of the internet bubble was just the beginning. The subprime mortgage crisis in a few years—that would be the real big show. There was still enough time to prepare.
After chatting for a few more sentences, Zhao Yang hung up the phone, turned to look at Huang Yimei, and suddenly smiled.
Huang Yimei felt a bit uneasy under his gaze. "Brother Yang, what are you smiling at?"
"Tell me, if the person you beat up were to kneel in front of you and beg for forgiveness, what would you do?"
Huang Yimei's cherry lips parted slightly. "Ah? This... how is that possible?"
