132: Make a fortune quietly

The city-wide manhunt after the killing of Okamura Inuya was in full swing.

On the streets, police sirens wailed mournfully, the sound of leather boots and shouts in Japanese rose and fell.

Little Northeast rubbed the back of his neck, grimacing as he ducked back into the alley where his small hideout was located.

His face wore an expression mixed with shock, excitement, and disbelief.

He had just been wandering outside, and his ears were filled with explosive news.

"Major at Songhe Tower killed," "Airport attacked," "Colonel Okamura sniped," "One hundred thousand silver dollars bounty for mysterious assassin."

At the same time, along with these reports, there was a lingering figure in his mind.

When he pushed open his creaking, broken door, he saw Lu Fan sitting calmly on his only broken stool.

Methodically wiping his glasses—yes, he had returned.

The most dangerous place is the safest place; this is the darkness under the lamp.

"I... my heavens!" Little Northeast gasped, his eyes wide as copper bells.

Pointing at Lu Fan, his voice changed pitch, "The... the one everyone's talking about outside... that... that god of killing... is... is it you?"

Lu Fan looked up, calmly watching him, neither admitting nor denying it, and picked up a photo to ask, "Who is this to you?"

Little Northeast looked at the black-and-white photo, puffed out his chest, and said proudly, "My dad! Han Shupeng!"

Lu Fan asked impassively, "What's your name?"

"Han Jingyuan, they call me Little Northeast!"

The simple questioning confirmed Little Northeast's certainty about the identity of the person before him.

No surprise, this person was familiar and connected with his father, and more likely a comrade on the same front.

For a moment, long-buried thoughts of killing Japanese and seeking revenge grew wildly.

Lu Fan looked meaningfully at the kid before him.

To his surprise, after a brief shock, Little Northeast's face showed not fear, but fanatical admiration.

He knelt down with a thud, hugging Lu Fan's leg, "Big brother! No! Master! Take me as your disciple! Teach me your skills!"

"I want to kill Japanese too! Like you! It's exhilarating!"

Lu Fan frowned slightly and directly pulled back his leg, "Get up, I don't take on deadweights."

His tone was icy, with no room for negotiation.

Little Northeast was rejected but not discouraged.

His eyes darted around, and he scrambled to his feet.

Leaning close to Lu Fan, he lowered his voice with a desperate resolve, "Master! I know you look down on my meager skills."

"But I have a big secret! A huge secret! Enough to trade for you taking me on!"

"Oh?" Lu Fan remained impassive, signaling him to continue.

Little Northeast licked his dry, cracked lips, his voice even lower, "Since the beginning of the year, the Kwantung Army has been frantically plundering antiques and treasures."

"They've torn down temples, excavated ancient tombs, and robbed wealthy families."

"I've heard they've even taken many things from the imperial palace."

"Now, this batch of items is hidden in a secret warehouse in the city."

"They're preparing to secretly transport them back to the japanese homeland in batches."

Lu Fan's eyes narrowed slightly.

Seeing this, Little Northeast immediately pressed his advantage, "Not only do I know where the warehouse is."

"I also know an old sewer that even the japanese don't know about, leading right to the base of the warehouse wall—absolutely hidden."

"It's just... the warehouse is heavily guarded by Japanese troops, said to be elite and fierce!"

He stared intently into Lu Fan's eyes, "Master! I'll trade this secret. Trade it for you taking me on, even as a runner."

"As long as you're willing to teach me skills and let me follow you to kill Japanese."

Lu Fan silently watched Little Northeast; this rogue was slick and full of tall tales.

But the urgency and longing in his eyes at this moment didn't seem fake.

He weighed the pros and cons: the city's defenses were tight; a solo assault on a heavily guarded warehouse was tantamount to suicide.

But a hidden passage... and that batch of plundered national treasures... "Is the information accurate?" Lu Fan asked gravely.

"Absolutely true! If it's false, you can shoot me anytime!" Little Northeast swore, patting his chest.

"Alright," Lu Fan finally nodded, "Lead the way. If it's true, I'll take you on."

July 17th, morning, the city-wide manhunt reached a fever pitch.

Japanese military police and Puppet Army were like mad dogs, inspecting everywhere; the atmosphere in the streets and alleys was tense to the extreme.

And right in this state of alarm, Little Northeast led Lu Fan into the entrance of an abandoned sewer.

Inside was pitch-black, narrow, and filthy.

But Little Northeast moved like a rat familiar with the terrain, nimbly navigating the maze-like pipes.

They crawled through narrow rainwater pipes barely wide enough for one person, waded through knee-deep foul sewage.

They trekked in the darkness for nearly two hours.

"We're here, Master!" Little Northeast stopped at the end of a relatively dry concrete pipe.

Pointing at a thick concrete wall ahead, his voice filled with excitement and a hint of panting, "Beyond that wall... is the basement of the Japanese treasure vault. There's a rainwater well here that leads up."

Lu Fan activated the multifunctional glasses' X-ray mode.

Sure enough, behind the thick concrete wall was a huge space filled with crates!

No heat signatures, meaning no guards were inside at the moment.

"Well done," Lu Fan praised.

Before Little Northeast could rejoice, the back of his neck went numb again, his vision went dark, and he slumped to the ground.

Lu Fan didn't go up to the surface through the rainwater well; instead, he took out the multifunctional pen and walked along the concrete wall.

Joking aside, wasn't quietly making a fortune great? Why engage in a frontal battle and fight to the death?

Reaching the end of the passage, he twisted the pen body.

A beam of invisible red high-energy laser light extended from the pen tip.

He manipulated the pen like the most precise engraving tool, silently cutting into the sturdy concrete wall.

The high-temperature laser beam easily sliced through the concrete, with no dust, no noise, only a faint "sizzling" sound.

Soon, a hole just large enough for one person to pass through was cut out.

Lu Fan squeezed through sideways.

Inside was a huge, dry, and cold warehouse.

The air was filled with a faint scent of camphorwood mixed with dust.

Using the glasses' low-light vision, Lu Fan saw countless crates of various sizes neatly stacked in the warehouse.

Various crates bore japanese seals and serial numbers.

He circled around, and the mountainous piles of crates in the warehouse instantly vanished without a trace.

Only empty floors and walls remained.

After collecting everything, Lu Fan placed several clever Anti-Personnel Mines behind the warehouse's security door.

These mines were cleverly connected to the security door; once the door was opened, the mines would be triggered.

Before leaving, he used the laser pen to carefully fit the cut concrete block back into the hole.

After doing all this, Lu Fan quickly squeezed back through the hole into the sewer, hoisted the unconscious Little Northeast onto his shoulder.

While quickly retreating along the original path, he similarly placed Anti-Personnel Mines again.

Leaving the sewer, he smiled at the corner of his mouth, "Little Japanese, I hope you like this gift from me!"
