Go to the base (thanks to Ainz Ooal Gown for the character summon)

The Special Mutant did not stay here for too long; after sensing Lin Feng's aura was gone, it left.

However, Lin Feng still did not deactivate his invisibility. It was now certain that the Special Mutant definitely possessed some special ability to pinpoint his location.

If he were to deactivate his invisibility now, he would likely be discovered in short order.

It was better to wait for it to go further away.

Another half an hour passed, and several armed helicopters flew overhead. They were likely pursuing that Special Mutant. Seeing this, Lin Feng also deactivated his invisibility.

These few helicopters should be able to buy him some time.

Standing on the rooftop, basking in the sun, was indeed a bit tiring. It was better to find a new place.

After nimbly climbing down from the small two-story building, Lin Feng walked towards where the helicopters had just flown from.

He was currently wearing the same uniform as those Soldier, so even hiding in a military base would not be an issue.

Lin Feng's speed was very fast along the way, and he killed as many zombies as possible when he encountered them, as they were all gold coins.

If he could bring a Charging Pistol into this floor, he wondered how satisfying that would be.

By the end, he would surely have thousands more gold coins in his backpack.

"Damn, only one magazine left?"

After replacing his last magazine, Lin Feng looked at the sky above his head, which was still blood-red.

Meanwhile, the virus concentration detector on his wrist had turned yellow.

If it turned green, Lin Feng would be able to remove his gas mask.

This watch was also found on those corpses. It had to be said, the equipment was truly excellent.

Just then, a series of gunshots suddenly rang out in the distance.

Lin Feng immediately ran over upon hearing them.

He saw several Soldier dressed in urban camouflage combat suits killing a few zombies in front of them.

They were not equipped with full-face protective masks like Lin Feng; they merely wore a respirator that filtered the air.

"Sir! Are you in any trouble?"

A Second Lieutenant with a single bar on his shoulder saluted Lin Feng and asked.

Although Lin Feng wasn't sure how to read these shoulder insignias, it seemed his rank was higher than all of theirs.

"I'm back from the heavily infected zone. Take me to the base quickly. I have important intelligence regarding the Special Mutant!"

"Yes, sir!"

The Second Lieutenant in front of him did not doubt Lin Feng's words in the slightest. If Lin Feng were to remove his mask now and reveal an Asian face, it would probably startle him.

After saluting Lin Feng, the Second Lieutenant shouted for the Soldier to fall in, and then all the Soldier returned to the Humvee. Lin Feng was also invited inside.

However, Lin Feng felt no sense of security at all at this moment.

After all, even if the Humvee was bulletproof, it would hardly withstand a slap from that Special Mutant.

He just wanted to get to the base quickly. He believed that even if the Special Mutant was incredibly powerful, it wouldn't dare to forcefully break into a military base to beat him up, would it?

............

Twenty-odd minutes later, the virus detector on Lin Feng's wrist had turned green, indicating that there were no viruses in this area.

What made Lin Feng curious was that many civilians still lived here. They seemed unaware of what was happening in the other district, and some were even chatting and laughing as they walked down the street.

The shops on both sides of the road were mostly open, and police officers maintaining order could still be seen on the streets.

Such a surreal scene truly left Lin Feng bewildered.

"Sir, this is already a safe zone. Would you like to remove your gas mask?"

The Second Lieutenant sitting next to Lin Feng kindly reminded him.

Lin Feng also wanted to take it off, as the mask was indeed a bit stuffy.

However, once he removed the mask, his identity would likely be exposed.

So, the mask definitely couldn't be removed.

"No, I'm used to wearing it. It gives me more security, especially since you know the situation in the heavily infected zone."

"Indeed, the strength of the zombies active in the heavily infected zone has significantly increased."

The Second Lieutenant nodded. He had never been to the heavily infected zone himself; he had only heard rumors about it.

Due to their differing ranks, there wasn't much conversation between the two along the way.

After an hour of stopping and starting through the bustling city, Lin Feng finally saw the base.

The base was surrounded by tall walls, with a total of four entrances. Each entrance was guarded by armored vehicles and Soldier, and there were also many large virus detectors distributed at the gates and inside the base.

They were probably used to measure the surrounding virus concentration.

"Sir, I'll drop you off here. We still have a mission to carry out."

"Understood, thank you for the trouble."

Lin Feng returned the salute and then got out of the Humvee.

The Soldier at the base entrance also saluted Lin Feng upon seeing him. Just like that, Lin Feng successfully walked inside.

"Phew, I should be safe now, right?"

Counting the time, he should have been on this floor for three hours by now.

This mask was really inconvenient to remove; he couldn't even drink water.

Lin Feng thought to himself as he looked at the Soldier coming and going around him.

After examining the mask, Lin Feng suddenly discovered that it didn't need to be completely removed. The nose and mouth areas could be retracted with a single button, and then extended back out after eating.

It had to be said, this was very user-friendly.

He found a corner, opened his mask, chugged two bags of emergency water, and then ate two energy bars to replenish his energy.

"This can't go on. Maybe I should just leave."

Lin Feng thought to himself after finishing the energy bars. His original plan was to stay in this military base for 24 hours, but now it seemed it wasn't that simple, as he was constantly at risk of his identity being exposed.

It would be better to go out and pretend to be a civilian.

Anyway, this was a safe zone, and the armed forces were strong. That Special Mutant probably wouldn't dare to cause trouble.

Having made up his mind, Lin Feng walked out openly with his gun.

Soon, he arrived at a shanty town.

The people living here were usually homeless or drug addicts.

Lin Feng's reason for coming here was, of course, to make money.

Homeless people were out of the question, as they had no money. Drug addicts, however, usually carried a lot of cash because they needed to buy drugs.

Soon, Lin Feng locked onto a target.

"You, come here, routine inspection."

Upon seeing Lin Feng's uniform, the drug addict, though somewhat reluctant, still stood up.

"Didn't I just get a virus test yesterday...?"

"Shut up!"

Lin Feng pushed the drug addict in front of him, and the powerful force directly sent him into a small shack. Then, without further ado, he twisted his neck, killing him, and took out the cash from his body.

He counted a total of one thousand US dollars, which was a good amount. The man also had a backpack, presumably for drug transactions, and it contained a large bag of drugs.
