Goat Hunting

Sometimes, having too big an appetite isn't a good thing.

Rubbing his belly, at least he wouldn't go to bed hungry tonight.

Spreading his coat on the ground, Lin Feng pressed down firmly to flatten the wild grass underneath, then lay down to test it.

It was acceptable; though there were some small stones, it should be fine for one night.

Soon, night fell.

Outside the campfire's immediate vicinity, everything was pitch black.

There was no moon or stars visible in the sky, which wasn't a good sign.

This place was likely in its rainy season right now.

Tomorrow, he needed to quickly build a shelter to block the wind and rain.

He hoped he wouldn't turn into a drowned rat tonight.

Closing his eyes, Lin Feng pondered his survival plan in his mind before drifting off to sleep.

He woke up in the middle of the night to add some more firewood.

The night passed without incident.

The next day, in the early morning, Lin Feng was awakened by gusts of cold wind.

After reviving the nearly extinguished campfire, Lin Feng looked around.

It was safe, and it hadn't rained last night.

His luck wasn't bad.

However, the humidity was high, and there was dew everywhere.

The firewood he had dried yesterday was a bit damp but still usable.

Today, he needed to put some dry grass under these woodpiles.

After urinating, Lin Feng went to the stream, drank a few sips of water, and began his day's work.

He searched for food, raked dry grass, and collected deadwood.

There was a lot of wood in the forest, so he might as well find a few thinner trees to chop down for building a house.

Just then, Lin Feng suddenly discovered a pile of excrement by the stream.

It was granular and very fresh.

It was clearly produced during the night.

The shape resembled chocolate chips, and in this kind of place, it was most likely from a goat.

Now he had something to eat.

This goat would probably come to drink water again tonight.

He could ambush it here in advance and wait for it; as long as he encountered it, with his strength, he could definitely take it down directly, and then he wouldn't have to worry about food for a while.

For now, he should find something else to eat first.

Coming down the mountain, Lin Feng collected wood while searching for food.

Finally, Lin Feng spent three hours collecting deadwood and dry grass.

He successfully made himself a bed.

He also found many edible fungi.

They were called boletes; most of them were non-toxic and widely edible.

There was quite a lot of them; if roasted, it would barely be enough for Lin Feng's lunch.

He hadn't eaten enough last night, hadn't eaten anything this morning, and had consumed so much energy.

Lin Feng was already starving.

So, having too big an appetite really isn't a good thing!

After lunch, Lin Feng found a shaded spot under a tree to rest briefly, then walked deeper into the mountains.

Lin Feng had initially thought that the mountain forest's ecosystem would be rich, and he would encounter many edible things, but the result was disappointing.

In the end, he only picked up a few wild fruits and a few mushrooms.

However, the good news was that he should be able to build the house today if he worked overtime.

Walking upstream along the creek, Lin Feng found many moss-like plants, very thick and moist; if squeezed hard, water would come out, making them suitable for a roof to block rain.

After spending over an hour carrying the chopped trees back to the camp, Lin Feng began to design his small house.

The rat skin he had peeled off yesterday made excellent ropes.

Cutting the rat skin into strips, Lin Feng leaned several thicker logs together and secured them with the leather ropes.

Then he placed branches, leaves, and dry grass on top, finally covering it with moss.

A simple tent was constructed.

The space inside was very small, just enough to lie down, but it was sufficient for Lin Feng.

After laying some wood inside the tent, filling it with leaves, and then spreading a thick layer of dry grass, a soft large bed was also completed.

And he didn't have to worry about it getting wet when it rained.

Lying in the tent and feeling it, Lin Feng thought it was not bad.

Now he needed to make a rain cover for the campfire.

Making the campfire's rain shelter was much simpler.

Lin Feng finished building it in just over half an hour.

He stuck the wooden sticks into the soil.

Then he laid wet moss on top; although it couldn't block rain completely, it just needed to ensure the fire didn't go out.

Lin Feng didn't have that much energy to process these things right now.

He also had to make a container.

Unlike on a deserted island, he wasn't lucky enough to find iron cans or buckets here.

However, if he was patient enough, he could try hollowing out wood to make containers.

There was a lot of deadwood on the ground; Lin Feng casually picked one of suitable length and examined it.

It was twenty centimeters long, with a radius of about five centimeters.

If he could hollow it out, it should hold a lot of water, and he could even use it to stew soup.

Thinking of this, Lin Feng took out his stone knife and began to chisel the wood core.

At first, it went smoothly, but after a few centimeters, the stone knife couldn't reach.

Lin Feng had to go back to the stream to continue searching for stones; his luck was good, and he quickly found a thumb-thick stone that had excellent hardness and length, and if he sharpened the tip, it could even be used as a bayonet.

Finally, with Lin Feng's effort, a wooden pot capable of boiling water was completed.

It took over two hours.

This wooden pot, of course, couldn't be placed directly on the fire.

If it were burned directly, it would probably leak very quickly.

Lin Feng went to the stream again to wash a few smooth stones, then threw the stones into the fire to heat them.

When the stones were hot, he picked them up with tongs and threw them directly into the wooden pot.

The water in the wooden pot quickly boiled.

Although the water became a bit cloudy, it was not a big deal.

After blowing away the steam, Lin Feng took a small sip.

The warm liquid sliding into his stomach felt very comfortable.

By the time he finished making the container, it was already evening; the weather was good today, at least he could see the moon tonight.

It shouldn't rain.

Now, he should go and ambush by the stream in advance.

Lin Feng thought to himself.

Soon, night completely fell.

Lin Feng waited arduously by the stream for three or four hours, but still, the goat didn't come.

Just as he was about to give up, a sound of stepping on stones suddenly came from not far away.

β€œIt's here?”

Under the moonlight, Lin Feng peered towards the source of the sound.

When he saw the cautious goat, he was overjoyed.

It was indeed a goat!

This goat seemed to have smelled Lin Feng, but it was unsure if this unknown creature was dangerous, so its steps were hesitant.

Eventually, it still walked towards the stream.

Seeing this, Lin Feng tightened his grip on the stone in his hand.

When the goat was still more than ten meters away from him, he lunged out like an arrow, pouncing on the goat like a flash of lightning.
