Find fresh water

After returning to camp with his prey, Lin Feng began to cook today's breakfast.

It was a soup made from six small fish stewed with coconut water, plus some roasted unknown creatures.

After breakfast, Lin Feng picked up a sharpened wooden stick and walked into the jungle; he was going to look for fresh water. Lin Feng didn't believe that such a large island would have no fresh water resources at all; some of the usual rainfall must have been stored.

Otherwise, there wouldn't be so much vegetation here.

Lin Feng, who had been wandering in the jungle all morning, did not find fresh water, but he did dig up a dozen potatoes and some chewable plant roots. These plant roots contained a lot of liquid and could also replenish some water.

Lin Feng then returned to camp and twisted a dozen ropes from coconut fiber.

The birdsong in the forest made him a little hungry; he wanted to try making some bird traps.

The trigger trap Lin Feng wanted to make was very simple, requiring five wooden sticks about twenty centimeters long and a rope.

The dozen short ropes Lin Feng had just twisted together were just long enough.

After simply processing the wooden sticks, Lin Feng took the bait and returned to the forest.

The bait was conch meat; conch meat should be in these birds' diet, right?

After finding a relatively elastic branch, Lin Feng tied a knot in the rope and fastened it.

Then, he wrapped the rope twice around a position slightly below the middle to form a double loop, and tied a small branch within this double loop.

After assembling the remaining five wooden sticks, he wedged the small branch under the stick acting as a pressure bar and then placed the trigger rod on top.

Finally, he placed the prepared slipknot at the end of the rope onto the trigger rod.

After putting the conch meat in the slipknot, a simple bird trap was complete, but whether it could catch a bird was purely a matter of luck. Lin Feng didn't have much hope for it.

After returning to camp and chewing on a few plant roots, Lin Feng looked at the position of the sun and estimated the approximate time.

It should be a little past eleven in the morning.

Lunch would be the potatoes he found. Although they were a bit small, potatoes were filling.

After roasting a dozen potatoes, Lin Feng happily ate them all.

After resting for a while, Lin Feng went to hook coconuts again.

There were still many coconuts, enough for at least seven or eight days, but the problem was, if he kept drinking them, Lin Feng would really get diarrhea.

Therefore, finding fresh water now was extremely important.

After replenishing his water, Lin Feng set off again.

The vegetation in the forest was dense, so there was no need to worry about being dried out by the sun; the only things to consider were various flying insects and mosquitoes.

After walking a certain distance, Lin Feng found a well-hidden small green snake on a branch.

Based on the knowledge in his mind, Lin Feng knew that this was an Asian Vine Snake, non-venomous, and looked very similar to a bamboo pit viper. The difference was that it was greener than the bamboo pit viper and had a larger body.

This Asian Vine Snake should be hunting now; what Asian Vine Snakes love to eat most are earthworms, followed by frogs and various insects.

“Heh heh, I can have an extra meal today.”

Lin Feng chuckled, then gently picked up the Asian Vine Snake with a wooden stick.

This snake was as long as Lin Feng's arm and as thick as his thumb; the meat from it would be enough for one meal.

“Hiss!”

The caught Asian Vine Snake flicked its tongue and bared its fangs, trying to look more intimidating.

However, this creature was non-venomous, so Lin Feng naturally wasn't afraid.

After killing it with a stone knife, Lin Feng put it directly into his pocket.

The clothes he was wearing were what he had found in the trash earlier.

Wearing only underpants all the time wasn't a good idea.

As he continued deeper, Lin Feng caught some fat grasshoppers. These were high in protein, and roasting them back at camp would make them incredibly fragrant.

However, up to this point, Lin Feng still hadn't found any water.

“Strange, with so many plants here, it's impossible for there to be a lack of water,” Lin Feng said puzzledly, then squatted down and dug at the soil beneath his feet with his hand.

It was moist, so he decided to keep searching.

Another ten minutes passed, and Lin Feng looked at the small puddle in front of him with great excitement. “I knew it! How could there be no water!”

After taking a sip, Lin Feng relaxed; this was indeed fresh water.

After some searching, Lin Feng found that the water in this small puddle was flowing from a crack in a rock.

The water flow was decent.

Soon, Lin Feng had filled five bottles of water; he had only brought that many water bottles. After remembering the location of this puddle, Lin Feng returned to camp, checking his bird traps along the way, but he hadn't caught any birds.

It took about forty minutes to return to camp, so getting water would still be a bit troublesome in the future.

But Lin Feng would not move the camp; obtaining food was relatively simple on the beach side.

If he moved into the forest, the daily food source would become a big problem.

Moreover, there were a lot of mosquitoes and insects in the forest, so he probably wouldn't be able to get a good night's sleep.

After returning to camp, Lin Feng first secured the skewered grasshoppers near the campfire; there were three skewers of grasshoppers in total.

Then he cleaned the Asian Vine Snake.

He did not waste the snake skin.

After cleaning, it could be used as a container for water.

He continued to stew the snake meat with coconut water.

This would maximize the retention of the small amount of fat contained in the snake meat.

If it were roasted over a fire, the taste would certainly be better, but it would waste a lot of energy.

After hanging the snake meat, Lin Feng picked up the already roasted grasshoppers, blew on them briefly, and took a bite.

The unique aroma of protein exploded in his mouth.

It was crispy, the meat was tender, and it burst with juice in one bite.

“Delicious!”

Lin Feng, who had eaten all three skewers of roasted grasshoppers in a row, licked his tongue, still wanting more.

He looked at the snake meat; it wasn't done stewing yet. Lin Feng wasn't in a hurry; he'd let it stew slowly.

Now he had a stable source of fresh water, and enough food. He just needed to set a few more traps.

So, next, Lin Feng was going to build a shelter that could block wind and rain.

Lin Feng already had a plan.

He would cut down a few thin trees, then tie them together and lean them directly against this rock wall.

After that, he would lay a few layers of coconut leaves on top.

However, with only his stone knife, he would probably be exhausted to death...

But there was no better option.

Arriving at the beach, Lin Feng carefully cleaned the snake skin and then picked up some small conchs and a few crabs.

To his surprise, he even found seaweed, and a lot of it.

So now he had green vegetables too.

And seaweed could also supplement some salt.

There was quite a lot of seaweed on the reef flat, and it would grow back, so Lin Feng had found another long-term food source.

After cutting some seaweed, Lin Feng checked his traps again and harvested 4 small fish the length of his finger.

After finding a new place to set the traps, Lin Feng returned to camp.

By then, the snake meat was also ready.

The soup was rich and fragrant, well, that was all Lin Feng's imagination; in reality, it didn't have much flavor.

After eating the snake meat, Lin Feng roasted the fish and set it aside for dinner, and also hung up the seaweed.
