252: Chapter 252 Meat Grinder Defense Line
Inside the cabin, Lin Fan sat by the window, watching the lights of Kyoto's ten thousand homes gradually shrink below him.
His fingers lightly tapped the armrest of his seat, and his S-rank True Sight Eye flickered with a faint, eerie light in the darkness.
It was a look of extreme thirst for high-end raw materials, as if he were not headed toward a bloody Shura Field where death was nearly certain, but rather toward a massive, unguarded treasure vault.
The heavy transport plane jolted violently amidst the clouds ten thousand meters in the air.
As they continued to fly north, the air temperature was plummeting at an abnormal rate.
The atmosphere inside the cabin felt somewhat oppressive; aside from the roar of the engines, the lightheartedness and fanaticism from when they first set out had vanished.
Zhang Hao gripped his seatbelt tightly, his face somewhat pale. Although he had awakened an SS-Rank Talent, at his core, he was still just a chubby kid who had never seen the true cruelty of war.
“Brother Fan, why is this plane shaking so badly? We didn't run into some flying exotic beast, did we?”
Lin Fan didn't answer. He was staring intently through the porthole at the clouds below.
He had pushed his S-rank True Sight Eye to its limit, piercing through the thick clouds and mist to pull the scene of the earth below clearly onto his retinas.
“It's not an exotic beast; it's energy turbulence.”
Lin Fan's voice was surprisingly calm, but it carried an inexplicable chill to everyone's ears.
“We have entered the airspace of the Seventh War Zone.”
Hearing this, Hou San, Old Drunkard, and the others crowded around the porthole one after another, looking down following Lin Fan's gaze.
With just one look, everyone's breath hitched for a moment.
On that vast permafrost covered in ice and snow, there were no cities and no forests—only a man-made defense line stretching hundreds of kilometers like a Great Wall of steel.
And in front of this defense line was a scalp-numbing black ocean.
That wasn't seawater, but a terrifying army composed of countless heavy-armored, massive-bodied members of the Outworld races.
“Good god...”
Doctor sucked in a breath of cold air and pushed up his rimless glasses, his hand holding the scalpel trembling slightly.
“Those monsters... they actually know how to deploy troops and formations?”
In everyone's sight, those Outworlders were not at all the brainless beasts they had seen in the Gloomy Forest or Jianghai City.
Charging at the very front were Troll Infantrymen over three meters tall, covered in thick black armor. They held massive tower shields, forming an indestructible wall of steel.
Behind the Troll Infantry were heavy cavalry riding mutated direwolves, the spears in their hands flickering with a bloodthirsty, cold light.
Even more despair-inducing were the dozens of mobile altars emitting an eerie glow in the center of the Outworld army. A group of Outworld Wizards in long robes were chanting obscure incantations atop the altars, as various buffing array halos constantly fell upon the Outworld soldiers.
This was a real army—a regular force armed to the teeth and born for the destruction of humanity.
By comparison, the human defense line appeared so thin and fragile.
Countless shells exploded within the Outworld formations, but aside from kicking up some dirt and severed limbs, they couldn't stop that dark torrent of steel from advancing at all.
Human martial artists of the same level were practically like paper in front of those massive, array-buffed Outworld regulars.
Lin Fan saw with his own eyes a human officer with Martial Master Peak cultivation being instantly pinned to the frozen ground by a dozen thrown spears after slaying a single Troll Infantryman.
Blood had become the only decoration on this land.
Human soldiers rushed out of the trenches one after another, using their own flesh and blood to fill the gaps in the defense line.
The aura of despair could be clearly felt by everyone in the cabin, even from ten thousand meters up.
“This is impossible to fight...”
Iron Bull swallowed hard. His proud Rock Armor probably wouldn't last even a second against those Outworld heavy weapons.
The entire cabin fell into a deathly silence.
Just as everyone was being cowed by this meat-grinder-like cruel battlefield, an extremely discordant voice suddenly broke the silence.
“I'm rich! I'm really rich!”
Lin Fan was pressed against the porthole, his eyes shining with an unprecedented fanatical light, his mouth constantly muttering something.
Zhang Hao was dazed; he cautiously tugged on Lin Fan's sleeve.
“Brother Fan, are you okay? Have you been scared into having hallucinations?”
Lin Fan turned his head abruptly, grabbed Zhang Hao by the shoulders, and shook him excitedly.
“Fatty, do you see those armored trolls down there?”
“That suit of armor can yield at least a hundred pounds of High-grade Profound Iron. If I make them into B-grade defensive blind boxes, each one can sell for at least five million!”
“And those wolf riders—those Dire Wolf crystals are definitely top-tier wind-element materials. Selling them as a bundle would be pure profit!”
Lin Fan pointed at that despair-inducing Shura Field below as if he were pointing at his own vegetable market.
“Look at that wizard standing on the altar. The gem embedded in that staff is at least an A-grade energy core!”
“How much blind box material is that?!”
“This isn't a meat grinder; this is clearly an ATM without a password!”
The members of the Villain Squad looked at each other, all shocked by Lin Fan's bizarre train of thought.
Faced with such a suffocating, hopeless situation, shouldn't a normal person's first reaction be fear and despair?
Their boss's first reaction was actually calculating how much these monsters could be sold for?
Old Drunkard took a huge gulp of wine to suppress the tremor in his heart and shook his head with a bitter smile.
“Boss, I used to think I was pretty crazy, but compared to you, I'm practically a normal person.”
Lin Fan didn't care about their opinions at all. His mind was now full of the critical hit rewards returned by the system and mountains of wealth.
“Everyone, perk up!”
Lin Fan clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention.
“Once we get off the plane, keep your eyes peeled.”
“Remember our slogan: never let a complete corpse go, and never waste a single piece of useful material!”
“If anyone dares to interfere with my stocking up, I'll turn them into a blind box right along with those monsters!”
Under Lin Fan's extremely realistic and crazy 'monetary incentive,' the fear in everyone's hearts miraculously dissipated quite a bit.
After all, in the dictionary of the Myriad Treasures Pavilion, being poor was scarier than death.
“Boom!”
The transport plane suddenly pierced through the clouds and, amidst a bout of violent turbulence, landed heavily on a scarred military airfield.
Destroyed defensive facilities and burning wreckage of combat vehicles were everywhere along the sides of the runway.
Red lights inside the cabin flashed frantically, and a piercing alarm warned them that they had entered a combat zone.
“Click.”
The heavy metal hatch slowly opened.
A biting cold wind mixed with the smell of gunpowder, ice, and thick blood instantly flooded into the cabin.
Lin Fan, gripping his demon slaying saber, was the first to step out of the hatch.
Behind him, Zhang Hao and the Villain Squad followed closely.
